If the Vikings had perspective, they’d revulse from Bradford’s contract, clutch their draft value charts tight and suck up what might be a pretty good 2016 season under Shaun Hill, anyway. They don’t have perspective. They acted rashly in search of a competent quarterback in a bone-bare market, knowing the entire time that every team they talked to knew they were vulnerable and was trying to fleece them. The Vikings did something rationally stupid. They know it, they don’t care, and if you have an empathetic bone in your body, you can’t blame them.

History doesn’t care about a pretty good runner-up. The difference between winning and losing can be a sliver, but the difference in glory is a chasm, and the Vikings are at the edge and they can’t see down.

Don't care. The window is open. Teddy may not be ready next year, either.

Common is ripping apart this comment by Eagles GM Howie Roseman:

Roseman said it was a tough deal to make.

“I’m staring at the ceiling, wide awake, at 2:30,” Roseman said to Spielman, according to King, “and [wife] Mindy says, ‘You okay?’ I said, ‘No, I’m not okay. We’re about to change a lot of lives here.’”

“Same thing with me,” Spielman said in return. “Couldn’t sleep. I was out at 4 a.m. walking the dogs.”

How many lives did they change? Really, only Sam Bradford and his immediate family, right? And that barely counts. He changed the city he plays in. He's an NFL player. It comes with the territory. Beyond the Bradfords, who else's life actually changed from this?

All the coaching staffs, the fans, the other players, the stadium people, the parking lot guy, the radio sports guys, the National Media, the bookies, the bettors, Fantasy Footballers, ..how it affects fiture moves.......He's right.

This is a stretch. They affected a lot of lives in the same way that you would if you started a new job. How do we replace McMurfy's position? Your new employer might need to find office space for you. Maybe that moves someone else from an office to a cubicle? One of your new co-workers may resent you. That kind of stuff.

Edit: Actually, you changing jobs would have a much deeper impact on many more lives than the Eagles and Vikings making a Sam Bradford trade.

Let's say I'm an Eagles WR on the last year of my contract. Affected? Yes

Ticket sales guy.

Scouts

Coach Doug Pederson(who I know personally and have partied with numerous times)

all affected.

But from what I can tell, Bradford has never been a good NFL quarterback. Some of his numbers seem OK (when healthy, which seems rare for him), but this is in the age of inflated QB ratings. Compared to his contemporaries, he's a Bottom 10 starting QB. Hill or Bradford may not be a wash, but it's pretty close. Not worth a 1st rounder and a 3rd or 4th rounder. Unless this somehow boosts team morale enough in some sort of non-tangible way. My guess is that after the team sees that Bradford is not good or gets injured, that morale component will disappear in a hurry.

Bradford will be very good and the season is not lost.
A rookie 1st rounder probably wasn't going to pass a started anyways except maybe at Guard.

Only if Bradford and Wentz play all that differently. And Wentz was probably gonna start soon enough anyway.

Who ever wrote that is an absolute moron. This is the Terry Ryan philosophy of "you can have one of my picks when you can pry it out my cold dead fingers" approach.

1. It is beyond delusional to believe Shawn Hill could hold up for more than a hand full of games, let alone lead the Vikings to anything.
2. There was absolutely nothing behind Hill.
3. Given the severity of his injury, it is likely a longshot that Teddy will be ready to start the season next year. It is entirely possible that he will miss at least a good chunk if not all of the season. This was not a garden variety ACL.
4. Even if he can go, Teddy may never be the same. This was damn near a career ending injury.
5. The window of opportunity to accomplish anything with AD is closing.

Speilman paid a high price for Bradford. You can argue that he overpaid, but the circumstances put the Vikings in a position where that is what they had to do. Speils traded a likely #25 area pick in a year when he had an extra 3rd and 4th round pick. Sam Bradford is not elite. He is however a starting QB, who had a similar year to Teddy last year, while surrounded with less talent. Don't forget that despite the two ACL injuries, Bradford was highly regarded enough that he was the #1 overall pick in 2010. That doesn't mean he will live up to that rating, but there is still a decent ceiling as a QB with him and he is still young enough to believe he hasn't peaked yet. Speilman knew full well he might need someone not just for the year, but maybe two years and even beyond. He stepped up and made the best move he could he could make under the circumstances.

Agree. All of that work. I'd rather have Sam Bradford start with Hill back up, than have Hill start with some scrap heap guy back up.

Common with another great line.

Two weeks ago if someone had told us, hey Sam Bradford is going to be our quarterback.

We would have said, "What, why? I don't want Sam Bradford. Sam Bradford is terrible!"

But now that we have Sam Bradford as our QB, we are supposed to like Sam Bradford.

Of course he would, he has too much invested in Wentz to keep Bradford around.

Get over the notion that one team always needs to be fleeced for a trade to be good,
this one was mutually beneficial.

I will go so far as to say that in 2016, Bradford gives us a better chance of winning the Super Bowl than a healthy Bridge would have.
TB is too tentative at this point and misses deep too often.

Down the road I Think he can be great.

Imthink he'll learn a lot watching for a year and a half.

I take Cowherd's perspective from this morning as dead on. We COULDN'T go a season with Hill. Not with a team that is pretty well loaded. So you take a shot. Sure it cost a #1 but it'll be in the mid 20's or later. Do you blow a chance for some random #28 pick that is a LG out of UCLA? Hell NO.
