I think it's a form of Munchausen by Proxy. By recalling agonizing Viking lore that other people have either blacked out or drank heavily to forget, you get more sympathy and support.

You have to love Kevin Harlan's play by play of the guy on the field. At least the fan wasn't hit by Mad Dog Curtis only to wind up in the hospital. Notice the players couldn't care less. 40 years ago, Curtis thought the fan on the field was akin to burning the flag, etc. Today's athletes keep it in perspective.

Maybe some fans could and should do that for the handful of players who use the anthem for a protest. Chill like the players did when the fan got on the field.

The anthem before sporting events is one of the stupidest things anyway. Fake patriotism before a stupid sporting event as if these sporting events have real significance in the big picture of the world. besides making money for a handful of owners.

Let the attacks begin.

I really haven't noticed anyone seeming all that sympathetic to me.

I don't think it's working.

Wow. Someone actually has the testicular fortitude to say what I've been thinking for years. I've never understood the point of the anthem at sporting events. I still respect them when I go..but what's the point really?

Right with you guys
Faux patriotism is right. (for many)
ESPN is shocked by the reactions ... so what do they do last night?
Focus every bit of attention on a couple guys not playing by everyone's rules.
SO WHAT
Kapernick is a back up QB on a non-relevant team.
WHO CARES
Stop showing him and it goes away quietly.

When I saw how much money the greedy owners of major league sports get for allowing the military to do special events during sporting events for recruitment purposes.........the amount is actually ridiculous and is something the organizations should do for free, I started to question the whole show of patriotism before sporting events. We don't play the anthem before concerts, plays, etc. Why before sporting events?

And yes, I will always respect the anthem and show respect for the people who have fought for our freedom.

But I also don't understand that if our country is in peril, why the hell did we do away with the draft. Bring back the draft and the wealthy who profit from war may not be so eager to engage in war if their kids have to serve.

He is no worse than the guys who stand there and leave their hats on or continue to drink their beer or continue to talk to each other or continue to text or play candy on their phones during the anthem. You see a few thousand of those every game an nobody says boo.

And didn't the Twins take a little (very little) heat last season for not coming out on the field during the anthem at home games?

Last close-to-a-scrap I was in involved was just that ...
At a Wild game last year, everyone stops their partying like you're supposed to ... for the anthem
Well, except for the special group of 30-something-year-old jackasses directly behind us.
Didn't sit well with us that day. Lets just say security had to get involved.
Young people are mouthy. Or I should say... their females are.

Not many people really know what patriotic means. They feed off the media bullshit that is meant for ratings. Perfect examples cited this page:

ESPN's exploitation and the fact that the NFL charges the military for things like fly overs and having the troops cary the flag. It's disgusting. I am very sensitive to this topic as I had a pretty 'patriotic view' since I was a kid. I actually joined the Army when I was 16 on delayed entry and left home at 17. I have some very deep feelings on people serving their country.

I get that everyone has a say, by default, but it pisses me off when guys like CK mouth off without doing shit for this country. It's his right, don't get me wrong, I just don't like it.

BTW- I know he didn't intend to piss of the people that served this country but he should have thought before he opened his overpaid pie hole.

Let me give another example of an athlete trying to do the right thing but just botching it entirely. Do you think Allen knows what it's like to be really patriotic because his family served and he did a tour for the USO seeing all the coolest shit the military has to offer? Let me tell what the troops think about that cool shit on a day to day basis.

That f'ng shiny ass tank that he took pictures in front off has to be spit shined by low grade, under paid, enlisted people in 100 degree heat in the Middle East everyday. They don't get the photos, elbow rubbing ect......they get the WORK. It sucks. I've been there.

I wish ESPN or the media would focus on that for a minute. We need to focus more on Tillman and less on other athletes "doing their part". He walked the walk. I apprecaite them "trying" but just stop the bullshit. It's fake.

No, no no man. Sorry, I hope it didn't come off that way. I surely didn't mean for it to. I was talking about CK, in general. I agree. Bit player on a bit team but the media is taking this as far as they can to make money.

LOL. This is why I stick to stupid one liners and obvious ovservations. When I go deep, it either:

1. Misses the point entirely
2. Sucks

Before anyone points anything else, I'm half Polish.

I agree. But it won't. It's "working". It's spreading. And I see a bad moon rising, if you'll pardon the expression. This is big trouble for the once-virtually-apolitical places to which we could escape. It's not far-fetched to envision a chain reaction something like this:

We go from players "expressing" pre-game, to actually boycotting games. Next, large chunks of fans follow suit, because the OPPOSE such player boycotts. Before you know it, locker rooms are split. Fines follow. Then suspensions. BLM shows up en masse outside stadiums before games. More fans opt to stay away. Ad revenue slips. You see where this could all lead, right? "There Goes the Ballgame" (obscure song from New York, New York, Liza Minelli).

We've gotta stop giving attention to morons like CK and the fool who ran out onto the field last night in Santa Clara. The attention-starved are loving life right now.

Dude, you aren't deep to begin with. That's why it doesn't work when you go deep. Trust me I know.
