Who needs AP

We didn't and clearly the Saints didn't either.

That sideline exchange between AP and big baby Payton was interesting to say the least.

With them already having Ingram and Kamara, I wouldn't be surprised to see AD inactive some weeks if he keeps up the bitching...or even cut loose. They don't need him. They don't need the distraction of a bitching AD complaining about his playing time etc. Might be a rude awakening coming for AD soon.

Sorry Scott, but the O-Line had no bearing on him throwing a -2 yard pass on 3rd and 14 on that one...

Teddy isn't going to play for awhile.
Sorry, DL.
As much as you want him to.

When he plays like he did from the 2nd quarter on, he's great. If he can sustain that, I have no problems with him.

It was the weirdest thing. They showed his "hightlight" package where he was like 7/8 for 40 yards or something. It was aggressively ugly watching him step up into a totally clean pocket and choose the dump off time and again. Literally as soon as it finished playing, he had the 3 strike TD drive full of "man throws".

Its like he saw the video and got pissed and/or embarrassed at himself.

His problem has ALWAYS been between his ears. He has as much arm talent as anyone in the league. If he can figure out how to stay aggressive he can go from "journeyman" to "legit star".

Yeah, was just taking a shot across your bow.
Thanks for understanding what it was.

He is what he is and he's here for awhile.

I was texting late to a couple guys ... if I can get a playback of the after-game stuff, when the players were mingling on the field from both squads .... they had a camera on Sam and I swear to God I read his lips to say to the guy he was talking to ... "yeah but that's the first time I've had all day to throw"
Maybe I was just thinking that way.
The OLine looked usable for the first time in forever.
We shall see this week if its true. Sure hope so.
And that would improve not only Sam, but the play-calling that we could do would hopefully change completely as well.
It felt like we had a different plan, once again, lets hope its wasn't simply opponent weakness that made it look that way.

Got that feeling all night
I really think they'll move him or cut him
It won't work there, or in about 90% of the other places in the league.

Thought it was funny when they brought him in for the third down redzone play late .... geee, ya think they might try to send him into the flat for a pass?
Who DIDN'T know that was coming?
He's a predictable known thing. It simply won't work anymore until he is used in only special circumstances.
When it's known that he will get the ball, his capabilities are no longer what they were.

The only way he doesn't get cut is is if someone ahead of him gets injured.

quote:

Peterson saw five snaps out of 33 plays in the first half, and all of them came with Drew Brees under center. It didn’t improve much in the second half, either. On the Saints’ first drive in the second half, Peterson finally got a shotgun snap, but was motioned to the outside on a play that resulted in Brees getting sacked. Peterson ended the game with nine snaps out of 62 per Pro Football Focus, which was a career-low. That number was also much fewer than Kamara's 31 and Ingram's 26. Peterson finished with a mere 18 yards on six carries, and more questions about his future role in the offense than answers.

Whenever Peterson was in, it was almost a tell of what New Orleans was going to do. Another bad sign for the 32-year-old veteran is that it was Ingram and Kamara that were getting the run on red-zone snaps. ESPN cameras even showed Peterson barking and staring down Saints coach Sean Payton. This could be a square-peg-in-a-round-hole kind of situation to monitor going forward.

AD is going to become a distraction. Its who he is. He is incapable of keeping his mouth shut or his feelings in check.

I think its hilarious that the pregame story was all about AD. How he's never played with such a good QB, how he was going to absolutely feast on 5 and 6 man fronts. He was the story of the game according to the geniuses as ESPN.

Then as halftime approached the narrative suddenly became "how will Peterson adapt to being 3rd on the depth chart?"

Here is the problem for AP. NOBODY lines up in a deep I anymore. AP needs to run out of that formation, especially now that his skills are eroding. Pat of the offense being improved last night was the element that the Vikings could run or pass out of any formation. That wasn't the case with AP. If we lined up in the I, we were running. If we lined up any other formation, we were passing.

AD winding up in NO and wanting to give it back to the Vikings.

Last night was certainly sweet in that regards.

One negative on last night; can we please get someone besides McKinnon to return kick offs? He was God awful.

An underrated part of the "momentum of the game".
Simply take the touchback sometimes.
It'll save you so much heartache.
Some of these guys let pride get in their way.
Few people in the world can consistently make something of the return when its 8 yards deep.

Taking the ball out from that deep is something that needs to be earned.

McKinnon just doesn't have the skills to make that a feasible option for him.

I don't know what he saw that made him decide to run out 2 long hanging kickoffs 8 yards deep in the end zone. He wound up on the 10 with one of them and inside the 15 on another. Maybe he felt too much pressure to remove memories of Patterson, but my God, that was some of worst decision making I have ever seen by somebody in that role.

My wife, who is a very very casual football fan and rarely comments during games saw him take off on the one and blurted out "what the hell is he doing?" Before she could finish the sentence, he was down on the 10 yard line.

Saints played their usual cheap shot bullshit as evidenced by the two helmet to helmet penalties.

Quickly moving up the ranks of my most hated oppnents.

1. Oregon State.

2. Ohio State

3. Boise State

4. Green Bay

5. New Orleans

The Saints kicker put 4 kicks deep into the EZ. Jet ran back all 4 of them.

26
33
11

Not one of them should've been run out. He didn't come close to breaking any of the 4, and he had one moderately successful return vs 2 horrible ones.

Apparently you can take the Saints from Gregg Williams, but you can't take Gregg Williams out of the Saints.

It was pretty obvious that he had no concept of how to follow the open field blocking scheme. On the 33 yard return there was a lane for him right out of the endzone and he hit it. On the 11 and 15, it looked like he crossed the goal and thought "what the hell do I do now".

Like I said earlier; new coordinator, same cheap shot defense. Were there only two helmet to helmets? I thought there were 3. Plus there was the one where the DB had Theilen off his feet and decided to suplex him, which is supposed to be an automatic personal foul.

NO. 1 OVERALL, WEEK 1

Sam Bradford posted a career-high Total QBR to lead all quarterbacks in Week 1, and he did it in uncharacteristic fashion, using the deep ball. On passes of 11 yards or more downfield, Bradford went 9-for-10 with 234 yards and two touchdowns (see first pass plot chart below). The nine such completions are tied for the most he has had in a game in his career. But Bradford's most impactful play in terms of QBR came on a 2-yard touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs with just seconds remaining in the first half. The score gave the Vikings a two-possession lead, rather than having to settle for a field goal.

Off the ESPN site if you want to see the rest of the list. And the charts.

That's all we're saying.

If he can keep doing this, great! But if he goes back to the guy we say in the final 11 games last season (and most of his career), way less great.

Looked like a playoff team last night, but I'm gonna wait at least another week before crowning their ass.

Saints D is garbage (probably why they're such cheap shot artists), but that was the first competent offensive showing we've seen around these parts in awhile against anybody. Thought the OL (save for Remmers) did a pretty solid job. Cook can be a difference maker, especially if he can catch the damn ball out of the backfield. Loved seeing him break Peterson's rookie record right in front of him.

It's been said before, but if you could just put Bridgewater's heart in Bradford's body...

Remmers needs A LOT of work on the pass block.
