ORIGINAL: SoMnFan I keep trying to imagine the DBs of my youth coming up and trying to tackle a guy like him Little Bobby Bryant or old Paul Krause, sticking their heads into those knees? Oh boy. Might have seen on-field deaths. Oh, but … but …. the old guys were better. Pffffffffft. I always remember my dad having arguments with those blowhards who think the old days were "better" "George Mikan couldn't have played on a HS JV team" OL in those days couldn't run the full 40 yards, much less do it under 5 seconds. Humans have become amazing creatures in the last 50 years. Bigger faster stronger In the early days of the Vikings, if you wanted to play, you had to be able to drink with Norm Van Brocklin. Guys like Bryant, Ersal McBee and Wright were actually pretty good technique tacklers in the Winfield mold. Krause was a grab on and drag you down over the course of 10 yards type of tacker, while Sharockman, Hackbart and Kasulke were pure head hunters.
