The Vikings have signed Kirk Cousins to a 2-year extension.

3 more years without a super bowl victory for the Vikes

Interesting to watch the ST innovation yesterday
All kickoffs were high and on the goal line, forcing returns, that almost always got stuffed short of the 20.
Teams who are constantly changing their attacks and approaches, are successful.
Some are leaders. We are followers.

They should kickoff from the twenty yard line to encourage the KO return to the game that is one of the most exciting plays in football. Kicking it out of the end zone is equivalent to an intentional walk in baseball.

Total Agreement.

I was probably in the minority but I have loved watching Patrick Mahomes for the past 2 years. Yeah, he may be cocky but it seems to me that most winning QB's (the exception being Bart Starr) are cocky beginning with Joe Namath. I was also surprised that nobody commented on the article in the Strib before the Super Bowl. Seems to me that Patrick's mother played a key role in his upbringing. I also don't know why it surprised some to see LaTroy Hawkins at the Super Bowl but they must not have seen the article below.

http://www.startribune.com/chiefs-patrick-mahomes-emerges-from-the-deep-end-of-the-gene-pool/567446432/

The article is very good. Love the role LaTroy played in helping Patrick make the decision to leave early and go into the draft.

Getting back to cocky, I love Patrick Mahomes cockiness over the awe shucks bs of our Kirk Cousins who has to hear Gods plan before he makes a throw to a receiver.

Love watching Mahomes play. However, the fame will get to him and he will become a total asshole.

Cousins for the short term is by far our best chance at a SB victory. He was top 5 QB this year.

For anybody who missed it Diggs was Traded to the Bills for a lot of picks. Here's the details I found on RotoWorld.

Bills acquired WR Stefon Diggs and a 2020 seventh-round pick from the Vikings in exchange for 2020 first-, fifth-, and sixth-rounds picks and a 2021 fourth-round pick.
That's what you get for a No. 1 wideout, so Bill O'Brien should take notes for next time. Diggs was frustrated on more than one occasion last season in Minnesota, broke out for a bunch of 100-yard games in the middle of the year, and then had a somewhat quiet playoffs with 4-76-1 across two games. He, Kirk Cousins, and coach Mike Zimmer never really seemed to be on the same page while Cousins seemed to favor Adam Thielen when everyone was healthy. Diggs goes to Buffalo where he'll join John Brown and Cole Beasley in the Bills' wideout trio. It's not an overly great fit for Diggs to pop off in fantasy, but he should still return easy WR2 numbers at worst. The numbers just may not be consistent with Josh Allen firing him the rock. It should still be an exciting team to watch.

A second #1

Paul Allen called it vintage Spielman

Whoop

Now they need another receiver

And linemen

Both sides of the ball

And corners

Lots of holes

Agreed
Those are vital, to maintain our mediocrity.

Honestly, if other GM's valued 7th round picks the way Spielman does, we could trade up at will during any draft.

This rhetoric of the Vikings wanting 32 plus compensatory 7th round picks needs to end. Yes we acquired a lot of them last year and the moves we made to do so seem to have panned out just fine. Trading back several times and drafting Mattison looks like genius. We got Bisi Johnson who was used a pretty good amount in the 7th. We got Udoh who people have high hopes for in the 6th. We got our long snapper in the 7th. You can get useful players in the late rounds if you draft well. I really doubt we will go seeking additional 7th rounders this year, but if we do and they pan out I'm all for it.

Yep. You can go through and find a few guys who panned out well in the 7th, but that approach always overlooks the opportunity cost of what could have been gotten with the earlier picks that were traded away. You also make a case that the Vikings have done as good or better with undrafted FA than they have with an abundance of 7th round picks.

The maneuvers that led to the abundance of late picks were the trade backs before drafting Mattison. Mattison turned out IMO to be an excellent use of the third round pick. No opportunity cost in this scenario.

What does Mattison have to do with 7th round picks?

All the trade backs before drafting Mattison are what acquired the 5th 6th and 7th round picks.

OK, so every time we traded back, we netted a Mattison equivalent and there was nobody better on the board with the initial pick we traded out of. Got it.

I think you are just being sarcastic, but yes that is pretty much it except for the ridiculous assertion that every late round pick we acquired was as valuable as Mattison. Mattison IMO would have been a fine value if we took him at the original pick without the trade backs. Spielman rolled the dice that we could get him later and won by a large margin. It's possible that with perfect 20/20 hindsight we could have done better with that pick, but nobody has that perfect hindsight.

Here’s a the history of Vikings drafting

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/min/draft.htm

Last 10 years

2010: 2-7th
2011: 4-6th, 2-7
2012: 2-7
2013: 3-7
2014: 2-6, 3-7
2015 2-5, 2-6, 2-7
2016: 2-6, 2-7
2017: 4-7
2018: 2-5, 2-6
2019: 3-6, 4-7

Sixth round: 15
Seventh round: 24

I bet that’s tops

Obsessed with late rounds

And who’s contributed?

Sixth round
Joe Webb
Brandon Fusco
Blair Walsh

Seventh
Jayron Kearse
StepHen Weatherly
Both 2016

The track record overall is not very good but he has the Wifs fooled.

Have taken 3 total lineman in the top three rounds in the last three, one each year

Before 2017? One
Khalil in 2012

In the last 10 years.

And of those four
O’Neill is decent
Bradbury is incomplete
Khalil briefly good; more bad than good
Elflein terrible

Idk how he keeps a job with a track record like that.

He’s hit on Diggs and Hunter past the first two rounds
But has been too focused on the pretty position vs the trenches

Don’t think the organization has a clue how to evaluate linemen

Yes we have had more late picks than most, however in the compensatory pick age we are in there are going to be lots of 6th and 7th round picks. Last year IMO Spielman played it almost perfectly. Prior years I wish he had just used our original picks. For example we should not have traded back and drafted Conklin, but taken the TE drafted just before Conklin. However, I forget that guys name now so he hasn't been too special.
