seriously, it’s still impossible to believe the Vikings staff preferred Olabisi Johnson those first two games

Some are not surprised by that

It really isn't that impossible to believe. Jefferson is exceeding expectations, but there is no way the coaching staff could have known he would.

I think they could have projected that he would be better than Bisi Johnson on day 1.

That would have been pure speculation.

And I don't think they would have as easily as you think after their last couple first round WRs did such a fine job of panning out.

I would think that Jefferson in training camp likely was more impressive than Bisi Johnson, but I'm sure you're right.

Bisi Johnson was not better than Jefferson at any point this season
Day 20, Day 40, or DAY ONE
I'm confident in saying that

And won't be convinced otherwise.

Believe what you want.

I believe it now. and I'm sure he was more talented then. But the coaching staff had NO WAY to evaluate that before week one except for practices.

and with their history of Treadwell and Patterson the last two first round WRs, they had to be skeptical about how good JJ was going to be at that point.

If coaches hesitate to play the new guy because they didn't get it right the 2 previous tries with WRs

They shouldn't be coaches.

Look at Bisi Johnson last year and Jefferson in college last year. It didn't take Bill Belichick to know Jefferson would play at a higher level. I mean they didn't have preseason games, but they had drills and practices. It couldn't have been that hard to figure out.

Apparently it was.

Apparently thought he was a slot receiver only, if you believe what the TV commentators have said more than once.

It's turned out well for the Vikings.

yay.

Self created vs Self-inflicted.

I lean toward the latter

One of the most arrogant runs of his illustrious career as a manager.

What a load of garbage that was.

They shouldn't be coaches.

Well, I don't think very highly of our coaching staff now. but experience is part of the game. And their experience with the last two WRs tainted their observations on this one, at least IMHO.

There are plenty of things to criticize these coaches for.

And some things to give them credit for.

They aren't going to get everything right, and we can sit here with hindsight and think they should have been smarter but NOBODY knew this was going to happen with JJ. We're all happy it did. But we could only hope then.

Randy Moss was not a starter in his first games either. Though he did get to play more IIRC.

FWIW I don't think Belichick would have started JJ week one under these conditions either.

Well Jake Reed as the other starter in a 2 WR set was slightly better than Bisi Johnson.

Reed was coming off 1138 receiving yards in 1997 and was 30. A veteran

Johnson was coming off 31 catches for 294 yards, in his second year

and Jefferson was coming off over 100 catches in an elite D1 college passing program

So yeah, there's no doubt the coaches would be hesitant about his ability.

I see the kid Philly drafted returned a punt for a score.

Still thanking them for taking him.

Most receptions 20+ yards downfield:
1. Justin Jefferson - 14
T-2. D.K. Metcalf - 12
T-2. Tyreek Hill - 12

And again in the game yesterday, Feely talked about how they thought the first 2 games he was just a slot receiver.

Smart guys those Vikings coaching/personnel folk are.

Couple of the talking heads on the cities channels brought it up last night ... "and tell us again, how this kid wasn't ready week 1 or 2, but suddenly was in week 3?"
Lets roll out the excuses again, like we do on all things Viking.

He did have COVID....not sure how that played out. Also I think Jefferson is playing outside instead of slot.....the kid sure has it. Amazing how great that trade ended up for both teams.

It seems Jefferson follows a common theme if you aren't sure which WR to pick....just draft the LSU one.

OBJ
Chark
Gage
Landry

I do have to admit, after watching a couple Bills games ... that damn Diggs gets stuff done. A lot of stuff.
That's not a JJ knock, just sayin, Diggs is still a knothead, but damn, he plays hard and competes, and succeeds.
As was said ... rare time when both teams benefited greatly

As of right now I'd say we won the trade. We got a young guy putting up similar numbers on a rookie contract. plus a couple picks.

Are we in some GD stupid 6 team league?
How many bleeping times do we have to play Seattle and New Orleans in a decade?
When did that asshole BETTMANN! start doing the NFL schedule?
Why am I yelling?
I guess i just looked at what the Vikings have left and thought it was a joke.
FOR GOD SAKES THERE ARE OTHER TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE THAN THOSE TWO !!!!!!!

Yup, that formula has rarely made a lot of sense to me.

Kendricks is out this week again

Rudolph may be too

I think the Vikings play one or both of those 2 ever year (SEA/NO)
