ORIGINAL: Bill Johanesen https://www.si.com/nfl/vikings/onsi/news/vikings-qb-jj-mccarthy-rewiring-neurological-pathways-on-the-fly Lots of quotes in there. He's probably a total head case right now. And practicing dropbacks when he walks his dogs? What is this, Pop Warner? KOC screwing up inexperienced QBs reminds me of Zimmer with DBs insisting they line up in exact spots. Enough of the pocket passer, play action stuff. It's not working. No huddle, RPO, roll outs. Try something different. Are our RBs no good out of RPO? Does the OLine not understand how to run RPO? I think this is what gets so many coaches fired. Not adapting We all hate him, but Sean Peyton can coach All that success he had with Drew Brees as a pocket passer, and then you look at how he’s utilized Bo Nix Night and day Will it be any better with RPO? Maybe not. But at least try it. He did it with the Passtronaut Dobbs. So it's not like it something foreign to him(KOC) It doesn't mean you have to totally abandon the play action pass deep shots. Just give the defense something else to think about. It looks like defenses know what is coming. RPO. No RPO. Pocket passer. No pocket passes. It doesn't matter if your quarterback isn't worth a shit. It's like rearranging the deck furniture on the Titanic. Darnold ran into icebergs for 5-6 years. Finally figured it out. Time will tell if JJM can. Darnold threw for 4,100 yds his second year JJ never broke 3,000 in 2 seasons despite an extra game Stats I saw say 3000 yards his 2nd year. To his credit, Darnold didn't have much talent around him. But, also, got alot of meaningless garbage yards in blow out losses. McCarthy has 6 games to show something. Not expecting much this week because SEA defense is fast and nasty. Edit. I see you were talking about college stats. C'mon Arlowe, Sean Mannion lit up the Pac12 back in the day. I think the point is we never even saw JJ McDoofus light up Rutgers. Don't draft someone that high that couldn't tear up the competition in college. Thats just my lame opinion. Honestly I hadn't looked up JJM college stats until now. They are pretty impressive for a run first team. Final year 72% passer, 200 yards per game, 9 yards per attempt. 5:1 TD to INT ratio Obviously it hasn't translated to the pros. Like I said, he has 6 games to prove himself. Or we look for another QB.
