I would hate to lose either Wally or Yurov, but that may be what it takes to get a top 6 center or scoring wing.....

I think there is a good chance Yurov is better than Trocheck by this time next year. The kid has a high high ceiling. The more I look at it, this rumor may be a case of a hockey writer trying to create a self fulfilling prophecy. Guerin and Troceck have a good relationship from team USA. The Rangers are open to moving Troceck ergo Billy will try to acquire him.

I think you are right. Trading Yurov for Trocheck would be a loss for us. Billy is still kicking tires and waiting to see what he can get. I still think if we get anybody it will be Ryan O'Reilly at the deadline. We could really use him in the face off circle and on the PP.

We have now entered Bizarro World. Marcus Foligno scores a hat trick to lead the Wild over the Leafs.

Yup, and he got the pass to get his ENG from Tarasenko, who also had 2 goals a the time.
It is amazing how this team plays a better game when missing top shelf players and aren't trying to get too cute. They just play good north sound hockey and get to the net. Two tip in goals for Foligno in front of the net.....the kind of goals that usually go to Ek.

Very nice win tonight coming from behind 3 times and winning in OT on a goal by KK his second of the game. Hughes just keeps piling up assists. 3 more tonight. He leads the NHL in time on ice per game at 27:39. Zuccarelo with 2 goals in the third.

Quinn Hughes addition to the -#MNWild  has been amazing. The pieces we traded since their arrival in Vancouver:

Rossi: 8 gms, 1 goal, 1 assist, -5 plus/minus
Ohgren: 19 gms, 3 goals, 2 assists, -3
Buium: 18 gms, 1 goal, 4 assists, -8

I knew a little about Hughes when we acquired him but not a whole lot. I don't watch non-Wild games unless it's the playoffs. Just don't have the time.

I said the only thing I wasn't thrilled about is that we didn't have him locked up. I'm sure they will but after watching him, since arrival, I'll be downright pissed if they can't. He's a transitional talent. He makes this team so much better all around. I don't care about the picks or the players we gave up. I won't be mad at losing them. We CAN'T lose him.

I have beaten this point to death, but Hughes has transformed the Wild’s offensive zone entries, which has transformed the offense. Gain the zone with control of the puck and space and it's easier for guys to go to the net and attack. When you grind it up ice along the boards or dump and chase, you spend all kinds of energy just trying to retrieve the puck. Hughe's ability to maneuver the puck in a phone booth is just insane. I'm amazed at how many times it looked like two defenders were steering him into a tight only to have him do a quick pirouette and be in wide open space without losing the zone. There is a definite Bobby Orr quality to the guy.

And, yes...WE MUST EXTEND HIM.

Yup, extending Hughes has to be at the top of the list for Guerin this summer. In the meantime, if he can find a way to get a top line center to add to the guys he gets to play with will make it easier.
I knew Hughes was good, but I had no idea he had all of those ankle breaking moves to escape. So far from all of the interviews and I have heard he seems to be really enjoying playing with Faber, Kirill and company so I'm very hopeful Guerin can get him signed.

Plus - the way he talked about how he very much appreciated what Bill Guerin was willing to give up to get him I think solidifies his allegiance to the team. I predict he'll re-sign, but it's true, we need a top line center to round out our biggest needs.

As for Hughes' "ankle breaking moves" (great description) - it's crazy amazing. Players on the other team know exactly what he's capable of, and still can't defend those moves. I've been watching hockey my entire life and I don't think I've ever seen anything like that.

I heard a great line the other day listening to a podcast (I think it was Judd's Hockey show but not 100% sure) and it made me laugh because it was so true.

Remember when we were drooling over how good Faber is? Hughes is another level of superstar and that's no knock on Brock

And the best part is being paired with Hughes Brock has raised his game to another level we had no seen yet. So fun to watch.

Man, that's good to see but if we could somehow squeeze a true #1C out of Hartman and change, that would be sweet

Another OT game, but this time we only got the 1 point. Tied with the Kings for most OT games at 20. At least we keep getting points, but need more 2 point wins....
Almost time for the Olympics, but first we have 5 games in 10 days playing every other day starting Tuesday.

As usual, we go to OT again last night and end up getting the extra point in a shootout. Started the game terribly going down by 3 and then worked our way back to snag the first point. Ek was a beast and Wally settled down and was good down the stretch and in OT and the shootout. Sure would be nice to get a lead to start for a change, we have been chasing a lot of games lately. And the east-west game they revert to when at full strength has to stop. We are so much better playing a north-south game without all of the cute cross ice passes and drop passes.

Wallstadt had said at one point that shootouts made him nervous. That one-on-one scenario that can be so unpredictable, I suppose? So any time (like last night) that he gets the win in a shootout must relieve the nervous aspect a bit.

We're going to be running on fumes by the time the playoffs come around with all the extra icetime. I mentioned a couple weeks ago that when Hughes got there they started trying to be all tricky. Just because he has the talent to do certain things doesn't mean everyone does. Perfect example was the stupid no look back pass that Faber tried that backfired. No need for that and it cost us a goal. Just play simple in those situations. 2nd goal

Russo and Friedman have both said that Jesper is available for a trade for a top 6 center (does anybody know why hockey writers insist on spelling center c.e.n.t.R.E?

I think it's a Canadian thing.

If Wally is available it better be for a young top 6 center that has plenty of tread left......

Wally makes the most sense. We have a good goalie in his prime and long term in Gus. I would rather see Wallstedt moved for a top 6 than Yurov or Stramel.

"The spelling of "centre" in hockey with an -re ending is used because it follows British English and Commonwealth (including Canadian) spelling conventions, which are derived from French."

I should have known the damn French had something to with it.
