Griner is a huge factor, but our age is looming larger. Griner is going to be a problem for the whole league, not just the Lynx. There’s just not many 6’ 8" WNBA players, especially those that are quite athletic. McCarville is ideally suited for a role as the 7th player who can come off the bench, play physical, and facilitate on offense. But her days of matching up against Griner or Fowles or DeSouza are over. The even bigger problem is that the run might be over, despite what coach Reeves suggests. Brunson is almost 33; Whalen is 32; McCarville is 32; and Augustus is 30. Monica Wright took a step back this year, when she needed to take a step forward. Same with Deveroux. Dantas is the X factor. She actually matched up fairly well with Griner in game 2. Somehow, someway, the Lynx need to find a couple of players to surround Maya Moore. Where to start …. somewhat fair observation from Canis regular, but a little more light to shead here ... Let me start with both Brunson and Wright. Note: the preseason knee surgeries didn’t make these guys whole & 100%; it simply got them back on the court to play. They worked their butts off to get back and “some” of them was better than none of them. But Brunson was a shell of herself & really I was surprised she came back at all. She won’t be going overseas any time soon, choosing to stay state side & continue rehabbing. Yes she will be 33 next season but I expect we will see her energized some next spring. Monica had to deal with her first serious injury of her career. As the playoffs rolled around she & Brunson were often not full participants in practice nursing their respective knees . They had to try playing through pain & swelling issues. Monnie gets an incomplete. It was easy to see in person, she also was not herself. She’s improved & added a little something every yr prior to this yr, so I expect next season, healed she’ll be ready & to get back into the game in a big way …. If she’s back. I hope she stays but if she was ready to move on for a different challenge I wouldn’t blame her.
