ORIGINAL: Pager The other take away from that article, Chiefs played two deep safeties most of the game and we still couldn't open up running lanes for Cook. With Thielan out, if we can't exploit those advantages, we are pretty much doomed. The problem with a game like the one played Sunday, is there were so many factors that added up to just a really poor offensive output. First, there were fewer than seven passes to wide open receivers that were thrown so poorly, they were not catchable and that was from the very start of the game. Cris Jones balled out in this game. Watching the all 22, there wee moments that our interior line did an admirable job against him, but the guy was a beast in there. The part I find most troubling is that there were a number of plays where we had wide open receivers running down the field and we opted for the check down. It was actually painful to keep replaying some of these plays to try to figure out why Cousins didn't just flip his hips and go for it. Was it really windy? Moore didn't seem to have the same problems with his passes, for some reason, the ball kept sailing on Cousins. As for the O-line, well, everyone not named O'Neil had a tough day. I'd have to say that Kline had the worst day I've seen from him this year, followed by Bradbury and Elf. The last thing I want to do is become an Elfline apologist, but in breaking down the tape, it wasn't as bad as Andy Carlson, who was calling for us to flat out cut him, wants you to believe. Again, the all 22 is on Skillout for all to see. Each interior guy had his struggles, penalties called at precisely the worst time, missed assignments and moments of hesitation that cost the offense dearly. Reiff also had a few miscues that when you first saw the play you might have thought it was Elflines responsibility, so there is that. I'm not really sure why Stefanski got in to this weird pattern of throwing the ball on first down, running on second and throwing on third, but it was funky and not at all like the way we went after the previous four teams. This team runs effectively against 8 in the box, but for some reason, really didn't try to exploit it much. I think Zimmer said it best when he said we were trying to be cute. We may have wanted to fire it up in the second half, but the defense had already set the tone and again, we were pass happy and off target. Hell, some of the completed balls were thrown so poorly that getting any YAC was impossible. Just a strange game. I wont even start on our defense.
