It's smart to understand that this is a young mans game, it's stupid to say it out loud in a press conference.

New England has been doing it for decades now. at least the last two. Moving on from players a year too soon is better than moving on a year too late.

Griffin gave us good years. but he's been declining the last couple. It was time to move on.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (3/20/2020 3:33:33 PM)

We should have done that with Rhodes last year.

Couldn't agree more

Dana Turner -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (3/20/2020 5:04:12 PM)

The team does need to get younger and try to stay competitive at the same time. Signing guys like Pierce is a smart thing for us and he is a young space eater that Baltimore simply couldn't afford to keep. The only guy that is gone that I really wanted to resign, Alexander, really didn't want to be here, so there wasn't much you could do. He wants to play on the outside, that's where the money is, can't blame him. I believe you will see at least 4 guys selected for the back end of our defense out of the 12 picks we have this year. One at 22 and one in the third, then two more on day three. I think the D-line is pretty solid, I know some are concerned about the 3-Tec, but I am hoping that what I saw towards the end of the year from Watts is a sign of things to come. Edge will be a rotating group, besides Hunter, we'll see. (I also wanted Weatherly to stay, but he got pretty good money, I don't think we could afford that and still address the O-line).

O-line will probably be (assuming we don't land a big FA guard), Reiff, rookie, Brad, Samia, O'Neil. backed by Udho, Jones, Collins, Elf and Rookie. Obviously it would be nice to just see Elf gone, but he's cheap and has experience that might be handy in a pinch.

We simply can't have 8 guys out of eleven making over $10 million dollars on a defense, especially if the QB is going to soaking up $33 million a year. The coaching staffs in the NFL are going to have to get real good at bringing young guys in earlier to compete and exploit that cheap labor. Next year we will have to negotiate an extension with O'Neil, possibly Hughes. We have to find a couple of lunch pale type guys to fill in, not everyone can get $10 million a year. We probably have never heard of the LG FA we are about to sign for $6 million a year, but we need to hope he fits in well and is better than Elf or the rookie we take early in the draft. It's a tough time of the year, but right now, it's the only thing a lot of us can direct some attention to!

All our starting CB's will be replaced including our nickel corner. I would like some stability on the back end by keeping both safeties. I mean, Harris was arguably our best player last year. Give him a long term deal if you want to reduce this year's salary cap impact.

It's why our DVOA against the pass was so good last year even with our CBs being so terrible and a lack of pressure up the middle. That and the outstanding job our linebackers did.

Such a shame that he went psycho. I loved watching him play.

Super bowl champions sign our castoffs

MIKE REMMERS
T, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Chiefs signed OL Mike Remmers to a one-year contract.
Remmers has been a starter the past six seasons but has never been more than a replacement-level option. He played all 14 games he was healthy for at right tackle for the Giants last year. Remmers could be an option on the interior for Kansas City after not re-signing Stefan Wisniewski.

This is good news. He's better at LT than RT, but he can give you solid effort. Obviously won't ever be an elite tackle in the NFL, but he can be serviceable.

When your free agency strategy feels like trying to squeeze one last little bit of toothpaste up from the bottom of a flattened tube ... rejoice in that little blob.

Chris Tomasson

20m
According to the NFL's official website, #Vikings star defensive end Danielle Hunter on Friday signed a renegotiated contract.

--------

Making some room to try and squeeze one more last little FA blob out.

if we had kept kline and mack at their numbers i'd feel much better about this fa period....

Scratch this name off the list of possible free agent receivers.

According to ESPN's Josina Anderson, former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders is signing a two-year contract with the Saints, pending a physical. Schefter reports Sanders' contract will be a $16 million deal worth up to $19 million.

Agree about Mac, Kline less so if concussions are a big issue.

Waynes got like $20 million this year... front loaded.

Outside of aged vets and lower tier types, scratch everyone off the list.

I hope we don't go through 50 or 75 more names as if they were possibilities in the first place.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (3/21/2020 8:16:16 AM)

Robby Anderson looks too expensive. The free agent WR market seems to be quickly drying up. Nelson Agholor seems to have a knee problem. I don't see anyone on the top 100 list. The good news is that this is a stellar WR draft. That looks like the way the Vikings will go.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (3/21/2020 8:16:37 AM)

Spottrac cap space as of today: $5.6 million. May not include Hunter's restructure.

With the extra picks, the rookie pool plus a couple of million for in-season stuff will easily be about $5.6 million, probably a bit more.

Outside of what we pushed forward with Hunter, we have NO cap space.

We'll scrounge up a couple million for a couple of vet minimum dregs. Other than that, free agency is DONE.

If we make a play for Thuney, Reiff can be shown the door.

$22 million in dead cap.

TJSweens -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (3/21/2020 8:49:01 AM)

It's really a matter of whether Reiff plays LT or G. I just don't see how they can get rid of him, financially.

Wouldn't we save 8.8M on cap?

If we cut him his dead cap money is 4.4 million off of the 13.2 million salary for 2020. Of course it would be better to trade him or get him to renegotiate his salary, but cutting him is still a possibility, I believe.
