So the Vikes have over 12 million in cap space after draft pool?

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/minnesota-vikings/cap/

that's before the draft pool - after: $1.8m

Once again - the draft pool may very well add to $11 million if you count all of them but only the top five or so will count in the final 51 (assuming they all make the team). The amount the draft pool will count against our cap is about $7.5 million. I did the math on it not too long ago in a post.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (3/24/2020 2:47:53 PM)

Listening to SkorNorth, it seems that the Vikings were hopeful that they could trade Anthony Harris for a second or a third, but it isn't working for them. One reason is that Harris, who is already going to be 29 in October wants a big and long contract. He performed at a high level last year, but it was really just for one season. I can understand the reservations by the other teams just as I can understand why the Vikings don't want to do it either. One possibility is that the Vikings keep him with a one year contract. The other is that they release him and hopefully get a compensatory pick next year.

WRs Anderson, Dorsett, and Benjamin all reported to be signing within the last hour.

If it was slim pickings with them included ...

Why aren't the Vikings on that list? Doesn't Harris' franchise count against it. Have we actually signed Pierce yet?

My best guess is Harris hasn't signed his franchise tender?

I thought it was interesting they aren't on the list.

I'm saying either keep him with the tag or take the tag off and let him strike his own deal. I'm good either way. I'm also saying that I don't think the team is going to be able to trade him and I don't think the team will be making a long term deal with him. Of course, I could be wrong. If I'm wrong I'm wrong.

kgdabom -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (3/24/2020 5:12:17 PM)

Two Blurbs found on RotoWorld that are quite significant for Teddy Bridgewater.

Panthers signed WR Robby Anderson, formerly of the Jets, to a two-year, $20 million contract.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the deal includes $12 million in 2020. Anderson will be reuniting with coach Matt Rhule, whom he played for at Temple. A field stretcher who can also do work underneath, Anderson unquestionably makes the Panthers better, and will be an upgrade on slow-developing Curtis Samuel opposite D.J. Moore. It is an absolutely atrocious landing spot from a fantasy perspective, however, as Moore and Christian McCaffrey should dominate targets from a conservative Teddy Bridgewater. Anderson will have a hard time upgrading on the WR2/3 limbo he was often stuck in with the Jets.

CAM NEWTON
QB, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT

Panthers released QB Cam Newton.
The No. 1 overall pick of the 2011 draft departs Carolina as one of the best players in franchise history. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Newton took and passed a physical on Monday. Newton's past two seasons have been wrecked by foot and shoulder issues. Formerly an iron man, Newton's aggressive style of play has partly caught up with him, though he is only 30 years old. Growing more efficient as a passer in recent years, Newton still provides sky-high upside as a dual-threat. The teams with the biggest need at quarterback are the Chargers and Patriots. The Athletic's Jeff Howe reports the Patriots do not have "any immediate interest."

Don't know what some of those Chiefs contracts look like, but when Mahommes re-ups $555K is going to be -$39.45M.

Kearse signed for 1.95 with Lions. I would've liked to have him back for that.

It's a shame we couldn't keep him. That is cheap.

Zimmer trusted Sendejo more....says something. He flashed at times but wasn't consistent enough to play unless they had no other option.....great ST guy though.

Zimmer isn't always right.

Nobody is. More right than wrong about the secondary ... sure, more than a lot of people.

Was he right when he picked Waynes 11th overall or Barr 9th overall? You can make a case that he could have done a lot better than Alexander at 54th.

In hindsight, which is as broad a critique as saying that someone isn't always right.

I myself don't second guess draft picks TOO MUCH because there is so much risk involved, i.e. Treadwell and Kalil were 'good' draft picks that absolutely didn't work out. Happens to everybody. There are picks I like and don't like but you really don't know if it's a 'good' pick or not for a year or two.

Also, last I checked, Zimmer doesn't have final say on draft picks. I'm sure he has major input through the process into the 'final consensus' that Spielman is always touting ... but there are others feeding their voice into that.

This is not to excuse Zimmer (or Spielman) – I have a lot of problems with Zimmer. A lot.

Heck yeah... like when the Bears drafted Bob Sapp in the 3rd. I thought he'd be a star but was a bust. Then the Vikings picked him up. He's was into boxing, kickboxing, MMA, etc.

Thanks for making me wikipedia Sapp (who I had no recollection of):

"He spent two seasons with the Vikings and only played in one game. Afterwards, Sapp was left in poverty due to his economic advisor having committed fraud on him, and was forced to work at a funeral home moving coffins to make his living. He eventually decided to pursue a career in professional wrestling by advice of his friend Mike Morris, who saw a chance for Sapp on it."

That blurb alone is worthy of a Netflix mini-series.

*All this time I thought you had to have a specific knack or something to work in a funeral home. Forced coffin-moving labor is just wrong.
