ORIGINAL: ronhextall I wasn't big on paying Cook. Time after time it has been proven you will need a franchise QB to carry the team if what you want is a Super Bowl championship. That's the way the rules are set, it favors/encourages a passing attack. Glad to have Cook but sooner or later all teams need a QB to carry their team with their arm. Lamar Jackson is a prime example. He can't pass when everybody knows they need to pass, and they lose. He is fun to watch. Still need to draft a QB. I disagree with this to an extent. It doesn't take Tom Brady, Russel Wilson or Patrick Mahomes to win a super bowl. Granted, it's a lot easier, but a lot teams have won with QB's who are merely good. The key is to build a team that has enough talent and balance. I believe you need a franchise QB to be a consistent contender. You can catch lightning in a bottle with a good QB and have one of those "out of no where" seasons, but the teams that are in the hunt year-in and year-out always have a top QB. Year over year, no doubt about it. A franchise QB is key to long term success. My point is that teams can succeed in a given window with someone with someone less than franchise status.
