Some just hate Kirk so much last year due to Vax....

Due to Vax?

Majority of people have never liked Kirk, as a QB or a person. He has to 8-1 for people to go, Maybe he's a little better than in the past

Am i exaggerating a little? Doesnt feel like it?

You are leaving out his salary and cap hit(s), which many posters have repeatedly expressed was/is a problem. First ever player to have 100% of his contract guaranteed was the start.

Its not so black and white.

I think most posters just wanted to get more from KC than a live arm. That simply is not enough. Jeff George, Cutler … that list goes on. Then you throw in his price / cap weight versus his contribution to winning … glad to see him affecting wins more that before.

IMO his lack of leadership / self-contained go-about-my-business worker-bee mentality - has been part of the issue. That doesnt fly at QB. Glad to see him opening up.

Fans are fickle. Their teams are more important than individual players … which is why Peterson Diggs etc started out so popular, then soured.

Hopefully, Cousins has turned a corner and is not just being carried along by momentum.

I see you beat me to the "price/cap weight" issue.

But yeah, a huge part of it was he has never been an "It" QB. Maybe he will ride - and help create - the tide this year.

Not so sure about "Fans are fickle. Their teams are more important than individual players ..." Some fans slobber over a player or, well, group of players.

You're right, especially in MN
Many people in this state can't get over what the billionaire paid Joe Mauer in a non salary capped sport

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/17/2022 6:31:25 PM)

With the attention on JJ, this week has a similar feel as after the first week win, where the Vikings had won a big win over the Pukers.

And then they lost to Philly.

Same thing could happen with Dallas, at least the game is at home.

Yes although I don't think I have ever been married to a player like that. I mean, none of my favorite players contributed to my team's championship ... does that make me a slobberer (over Page and Moss)? Their greatness is undeniable so I think not.

Maybe you are talking about most popular but least talented players ... most heavily slobbered over but least deserving ...

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/17/2022 9:09:57 PM)

I think it's sort of a good thing the Vikings play NE on Thursday, less time for Belichek to find weaknesses to exploit.

Oh sorry.

Yes, there are fans that are way over the top about certain players.

Is that because they think those players are good and/or like what they bring to their team?

Or do some fans just fully invest in some players above and beyond their love of the team?

I see a lot of fanboy stuff in here but not sure it rises to the level of, 'I'm a Kirk Cousins fan first and foremost. And then the Vikings.'

Mark Rapley -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/17/2022 11:49:05 PM)

Can I just say, it is always wonderful to watch the Packers lose? Never gets old.

GB-Phi is win-win. Either GB helps us and beats Philly or we get to see GB lose again.

.
.
some interesting vikings stats....

vikes' offense is #8 in points per game...we scored more against the bills than anyone else so far this season....

in the 4th quarter of 'one score' games, cousins' passer rating is 15 points higher than his overall rating....

under pressure, cousins has gone from #30 in 2021, to #4 in 2022 in 'big-time' throws....

under pressure, cousins has gone from #32 in 2021, to #11 in 2022....

self scouting:

before the bye week, vikings averaged 6-yards per pass attempt - #32 in NFL...after the bye week, vikings are averaging 8.3-yards per attempt - #11 in NFL....

before the bye week, vikings targeted Jefferson four times on passes over 20-yards...after the bye week, vikings have targeted Jefferson nine times on passes over 20-yards....

vikings are #4 in the least amount of penalties....

bradbury is the #9 rated center on pff - no longer a liability....

Strange, we haven't heard from a certain poster on Cousins. His argument was always that stats in the last 2 minutes were the only ones that mattered. Now those are Cousins best numbers in each game.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/18/2022 8:13:47 AM)

It is amazing the biggest hater of Kirk was Zimmer. He didn't want a dynamic offense. That was the reason for the dump offs and turtle BS. Kirk and JJ did what they did despite Zimmer.

Zimmer loved Bradford who had no issues checking down when he didn't have an oline and he loved Teddy who was also a check down Charlie. Zimmer never spoke foundly of Case although the fan base loved what Case did that year.

Cousins wasn't the issue.

If you still have an issue with salaries take a peak at this:

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/18/2022 8:32:18 AM)

Packers only hope for playoffs was to tie somebody like Dallas for the last wild card and have the tie breaker with head-to-head win.

Guessing Packer fans will have to plug their nose and cheer for Vikings Sunday.

That is crazy how that works. And it's been that way since the beginning of time. Another law that will hold true is if KC crashes and burns our guy will be back in a blink

I did it for them against Dal. But was quick to get off that bandwagon and root for TN last night.

Lawd, the things that were automatic for the old GB were not there - ha!

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/18/2022 9:25:05 AM)

Titans pretty much put the dagger thru the heart of the Packers as far as a wild card berth.

They'd about have to win out in order to make it and that's not happening. Good times.

It's not strange, because we won seven games in a row.

Board is quieter when we're winning.

When losing the naysayers come out of the woodwork to beat their chests.

Kind of strange actually.

Come on, if we were say 4-5 the board would be in flames and you'd be a torchbearer.

kgdabom -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/18/2022 10:12:21 AM)

Vikings will beat the Cowpukes this weekend. Does that put us one win from mathematically clinching the division? We need to win this game and then have the Cowpukes beat the Iggles and we are sitting pretty for the #1 seed in the playoffs.

Win out would be 10 wins - I wonder if you'd need 10 to get in?

GB
wk 12 @ Phil (we prob have to root for GB here)
wk 13 @ Chi
Bye
w 15 LA-R
wk 16 @ Mia
wk 17 MN
wk 18 Det (finish w/ 2 Dome teams in Jan having not been outside since 12/19 so what's that matter)

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/18/2022 10:53:52 AM)

If we go unbeaten in this 3 game home stretch we're going to parlay that into a 1st round by and a trip to the SB.

No, I can't speak for Bill but I was referring to the over-the-top stuff ... the posters talking up specific players to the point of taking over regular discussions.

IMO that would include the Marty + OBJ and KG + Dillon Mitchell kind of stuff.

I have been guilty. I thought the Reilly Reiff signing was going to be a seminal benchmark in world history.
