Lamar is Vick, Cordell Stewart, RGIII, Kap, and even Wentz.

Washed, as soon as they can't/won't use their legs.

Lots of fun to watch when in their prime, doesn't equal championships and the window can me microscopic.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 3:44:07 PM)

I'm confident any big move will be for a rookie QB. They already have high priced Cousins and he doesn't have the same injury risk.

I say no way this was ever seriously entertained by us.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 3:44:44 PM)

If not this year we'll go all in for a rookie next year.

I agree, I don't think they will do anything this year.

Next year, they will wheel and deal for a high draft pick QB.

Were not rumored to be interested in Lamar. At least wo merit.

Some writer said we'd be an outside shot at being a landing spot.

I don't see how we could make him an offer with our cap issues.

I would be intrigued what he could do for us...but after game 6 who would be our QB?

The guy has missed a lot of games the past couple years and it is because of his style of play...

The one thing nobody can say about Kirk Cousins is he misses games. He just doesn't...unless COVID strikes his anti vax ass.

Jackson has missed eleven starts in five seasons.

I brought this up before and with no comments: Were there issues with him holding himself out of the lineup, especially the playoff game, because he wasn't getting the contract from Balt he thought he deserved?

Thing is, this day and age you hear it all, true or not.

Especially when statements are framed as mere questions.

He's also had crap targets pretty much his entire career.

Ridiculous-level crap targets.

Here's Pete's opinion, not mine:

Coach O’Connell said the most important attribute for a QB is accuracy. Lamar is not an accurate passer. https://twitter.com/VikesCentral/status/1637508070946242560

When you can add 1200 rushing yards and 7 rushing TDs to your 3000+ passing yards and 36 passing TDs I'll allow you to be three points less accurate than Kirko.

Cousins also had Diggs, Thielen, and Jefferson who time and again extended all over the place to catch what would have been incompletions.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 4:12:32 PM)

If a QB they like falls to about 15, they might as well fork over #23, a 3rd, and a 4th (draft value chart). Draft boom/bust types the rest of the way.

Sign a nickel corner like Shelley and call it an offseason.

Lamar’s game log in December is noticeably empty the past two seasons.

So is our trophy case.

I doubt Lamar’s backup QB would fill it.

That wasn't the point. The point was that what we've BEEN doing, hasn't amounted to jack shit. That said, please remember I'm not in favor of going after Lamar.

Well, What Lamars BEEN doing these past four years hasn't amounted to jack shit either. Anyone who says they believe Jackson is an accurate passer has an agenda they are trying to push. He is average at best (passing accuracy).

Does he have some dynamics to his game? Yes, he does, but those same dynamics are the ones that have QB's like him, out of the league quickly, (in a relative comparison to QB's that don't run the ball so much.) Yes, it offers up another dynamic that the opposition has to prepare for, but not an impossible task. It has been my observation that running QB's deteriorate much faster than pocket type guys. I want a QB that CAN run when needed, Mahomes, Allen, Hurst, a few others come to mind. I don't want an average arm talent guy that we design run plays for just to throw off the defense. Just my preference, I don't pay $50 million a year for that type of QB.

Says: anyone who believes Jackson is an accurate passer has an agenda.

In the very next sentence says: he is average in accuracy.

I worked around some people a few years ago (gee Rick, arent you going to tell them what you did? ah, no - probably get criticized) and we would discuss/argue/debate something and I'd go, "That's a great idea for a t-shirt.

Yea, I kinda get the feeling that he shine of 13 wins is a glow we will not see again with Mr season and playoff on the line throw short, because I can’t risk an attempt to, you know… win 1 single critical playoff down…at the helm of this offense.

I dream of the future without an albatross, cap killing contractor a QB, who has won 1 single playoff game, being “ the leader…

I’m gonna go out on a limb and predict a top ten draft pick for 2024.

I wasn't trying to offend anyone with my post, only pointing out that Jackson isn't an elite tier QB, good run skills, average in passing accuracy. If I'm giving a couple of first round picks for a QB, he needs to be upper tier passing accuracy. When I said "agenda", I meant that many folks on this thread really dislike Cousins and will take anyone over him, Jackson included. I would never take Jackson over Cousins, they have a different set of skills, Cousins has more of the skills I'd like in my franchise QB. Am I happy with everything about Cousins, nope, if we can find a better replacement for him, lets do it!

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 6:25:22 PM)

Is it really down to us or the Chiefs for OBJ's next destination?

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 6:32:47 PM)

Wonder what the cutoff % is for upper tier. Career: Lamar Jackson 63.7%, Josh Allen 62.5%, Jalen Hurts 62.3%, Rodgers 65.3%, Brady 64.3%.

Yes because we are strongly linked to Joe Burrow for next year.

joejitsu -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 6:41:52 PM)

I just read that the Steelers picked up Seumalo for about as much as we signed a blocking te for. This is why we can’t have nice things, like championships.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 6:46:31 PM)

I realize the Vikings have a tough schedule, but I think they'll have a tough time getting to a top 10 pick in the 2024 draft.

The problem with getting that is Kirk is pretty good in the regular season, you have JJ, KOC is a good HC, Flores will likely improve the defense, and the special teams were good last year.

JJ will allow himself to get hurt so that they get a top QB in the draft. KOC will copy George Constanza and do the opposite of what he first thinks.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2023 6:59:16 PM)

No way.

I know the Jackson conversation fills this no-news period but to take on another blockbuster veteran QB contract would be jumping out of the frying pan and into the crematorium.

Just what we need, an even more polarizing QB than Cousins to gash and shred each other over for the the next couple of years.

As it is, by the time Cousins is gone we're all going to be reduced to nothing more than purple microplastic floating out to sea.

Yes because we are strongly linked to Joe Burrow for next year.

Odell and Joe are obviously more focused on our A+ Team Report Card than the puny contract parameters with 20-30 voidable years each.

I think taking Hurts career % is deceiving.
He improved vastly from where he started and this year was 66.5 I believe.
His 1st 2 years I never thought he'd be much of anything.
I thought he was upper tier this year.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/21/2023 7:00:53 AM)

I don't think any of the top 4 QBs this year are worth trading up for.

I don't think the Vikings will be able to trade up for Caleb Williams next year.

Getting Lamar may be the best option at QB.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/21/2023 7:04:50 AM)

I think LJ is just in a bad offense, not a good offense like the Vikings now have with KOC.

I would get LJ, and just not have him run often, don't design run plays for him. IF he focused on passing, and passed more often, his accuracy would improve.

Did Stafford's accuracy improve his first year with the Rams ? Did Cousins accuracy improve his first year with KOC, or was he just playing better in the 4th quarter?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/21/2023 7:08:49 AM)

I saw 3 different sources reporting on the Vikings possibly being one of the teams interested in LJ, so I think there is something to it.

The pricetag is probably too high, but at least your not trading JJ to get a top draft pick QB.
