ORIGINAL: ratoppenheimer . . imo: the non qb players in the NFL are going to revolt during the next cba negotiations - the qb's are sucking up all the cap, and leaving too little left for the rest of the players...too many players are ending their NFL careers with too little money in the bank.... Too little money in the bank ? Isn't the vet minimum for one year like million dollars? After taxes and agent fees it's a slap in the face to anyone who barely made a roster. [&o][sm=cry2.gif] Ah there's always one... I saw an agent being interviewed a few years back, and he said that, by far, the biggest shock for first-year players was the tax hit on their first year's earnings.... $1mm becomes $500k - buy yourself a nice car, take care of your family a bit = just about broke before next season's check.... the first thing that i'd do as an agent is get my players into some tax shelters, i.e. depreciable residential income property - smart investing early.... The tax bill on $1M is closer to $300K-$340K, depending on filing status, etc. Add in state tax If it were a Viking and somehow they played every single game in Minnesota (impossible but I’ll go with it), were single and took no deductions whatsoever the state tax would be $93,000. So realistically more like $60,000 how much do the agents take?...i think it's less than it used to be.... do teams have to pay the players cut from the 90 training camp bodies?...if you're a bubble player and don't end up on a team's 53 or practice squad, you should get a minimum of $35k...how can these potential players afford to return every year and try to make the cut?.... also, practice squad players' salaries should not count against the 53 salary cap.... By rule, the most an nfl agent can make is 3%.
