As far as Murray playing for the vet minimum … not seeing that happening. It might not be an obscene deal but he’ll have paying suitors.

We’ll see what happens but where slimy agents are involved …

But he won't make any more money - the Cardinals will just pay him less. So it doesn't benefit Murray in any way to take more than the minimum. It just hurts his new team.

--------------

Kyler Murray is being released by the Arizona Cardinals with $36.8 million in guaranteed money remaining for 2026, which features offset language. Due to this, any new team can sign him for the veteran minimum (approx. $1.3M) in 2026, while the Cardinals pay the remainder of his guaranteed salary.

Financial Impact: The Cardinals are on the hook for $36.8 million, which will be reduced by whatever amount his new team pays him, providing Arizona with minimal cap relief.

--------------

So if a team offers him 10M, he still gets 36.8M. But Arizona is only on the hook for 26.8M of that.

Okay then. will come down to recruiting.

Who cares if Murray does what he wants to and KOC is stuck with his system, it will be great watching him skeedaddle.

The Vikings are doing simple restructures on the contracts of star WR Justin Jefferson and LT Christian Darrisaw to clear salary cap space, per sources. Still work to do to get under the cap by Wednesday.

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (3/6/2026 11:23:14 AM)

The Vikings can convert a number of players 2026 salaries to bonuses to clear cap space. They will have no problem getting below the limit.

I expect us to be $20-30M under by the time the official FA signing day happens.

Was that number published somewhere? Kind of figuring that range. Wild guess, $25 minus $8 million for the rookies and in-season transactions? Haven't checked to see which low earners are under contract.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (3/6/2026 3:38:58 PM)

Brzez brought in Reichard to kick some cans as per overthecap we are just $1.2 million over.

Upcoming/stated deadwood cuts equal $25 million:
Hargrave 11
Jones 7.8
Allen 6.5

So if all that is true we'll be $24 million under.

Then there is $17 million in low hanging fruit:
Kelly 8.3
Hock 8.9

Who knows with Greenard.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (3/6/2026 4:08:52 PM)

Per Alec Lewis of The Athletic, the Vikings have now done the same with Byron Murphy's contract as well. That move will reportedly open up another $11 million.

it's weird that we haven't done anything with brian o'neill...i wonder if they're looking to trade him for picks and draft a new rt with a 3rd rounder...they might see him as too old to extend....

they save $19mm if traded, and acquire an asset....

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (3/6/2026 5:06:11 PM)

.
i'd like for us to retain ben simms for under $2mm/yr if possible...also, i know he's in someone's doghouse, but i'd offer ivan pace a minimal deal....

sign wilson to a two-year $7mm deal...draft a lb with one of our top 3/4 picks....

i think we're raising cash to keep nailor...mccarthy likes him as a target....

before we reworked jefferson's deal, i was thinking we might sign nailor and trade jeff in 2027....

after doing all the rework, trading, etc that's been mentioned, spotrac has us at $49mm under the cap...and that's without touching o'neill's present contract....

If we're going to keep him, I'd keep Nailor because Addison is a nucklehead.

McCarthy has absolutely no impact on our roster building.

Bradbury traded to Bears.

Hope we can pair Redmond with someone decent to abuse that situation.

Say what you will about what they plan to do with it, but that's pretty damn impressive.

The Bears were the next mega-team. Long rumoured to sign Crosby to bolster their defense. Checks notes for a second.......

o'neill is still a top 7 right tackle, and has almost zero guaranteed money, so they can dial his 2026 cap hit down...if another team feels they're ready to contest for a deep run and they need a guaranteed solid right tackle for a couple years - he's their man....

i predict we trade him and receive a 3rd round pick out of it....

That should work out well for the Bears. Williams has better numbers when he is forced out of the pocket and Bradbury will see that happens often.

If O'Neill is a top 7 tackle they better keep him. Fries is one dimensional and we have no center. Trades to stockpile picks are good in some situations, but not to the point they decimate a position group.

I take it you mean $39 million kicked to the outyears (JJ/Darrisaw/Murphy), cutting Hock, trading Greenard, Kelly retiring, and cutting the three players the team said would be released? All of those... not all of those... or all plus some other things?

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (3/8/2026 12:00:04 AM)

Rumor is they reworked Darrisaw and JJs contract.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (3/8/2026 12:11:03 AM)

From Alex Lewis:
Vikings cap summary...

— Entered about $45M over
— Justin Jefferson, Christian Darrisaw, Byron Murphy Jr. restructures (~$35M)
— Ryan Kelly retirement (~$10M)
— Hargrave, Allen, Jones releases (~$25M)
— O'Neill extension, Hockenson pay cut, Greenard future add more variables
