Not a slam dunk but it's intriguing enough that you try it out for a year.

Thor (from Skor North) wanted Geno over Kyler.

I think Geno is washed also.

There are a couple of problems I have with Thor on Skor North. 1) He likes Geno and Kirk over Kyler. 2) He loves his Hawkeyes.

I have a bigger problem with 1 than 2.

When you put it like that ... not signing Murray sends back to the stone age.

I've watched Murry make some really dopey plays under pressure ... Mullens worthy. Some good plays too, and good games ... far better than Darnold ever played before he got here.

To Darnold's credit, IMO it seemed like he came in with very little expectation, like some dude working his ass off to crack the code. He didn't actually crack it with us but he got closer.

My sense of Murray, based on nothing but talking head blabber and some games I've watched him play, is that he's a little more entitled as an athlete (than Sam), has a much higher opinion of his game (the playmaker) vs trying to be a student of the game, is insistent on trying to make things happen regardless of play design and coaches input ... etc etc

He really is mercurial. If we sign him, I expect he'll liven up the party for at least awhile. On some level.

nfrosty -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (3/11/2026 5:45:30 PM)

Couple thoughts on Murray. First for the last four years the Cardinals had one of leagues worst defenses. This put a lot of pressure on a QB as their often playing from behind or trying match the other team score for score. In the words of the late great Bud Grant "Offence sells tickets defense wins championships".

I keep reading that if we sign Murray, JJM is finished in Minnesota. Nothing could be further from the truth. Starting QB's playing every game without being out with injuries is becoming rarer every year. JJM will get plenty of time to fine tune his skills and will probably start a few games as a QB2. Having two high level QB's is getting to be vital for any team trying to make the playoffs.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (3/11/2026 5:48:17 PM)

No one traded for Murray. He's a FA.

The Minnesota Vikings are expected to target free-agent quarterback Kyler Murray, who was released by the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday, league sources tell The Athletic. Murray was officially released at 4 p.m. ET, the start of the new league year.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (3/11/2026 5:51:26 PM)

“The Minnesota Vikings have released safety Harrison Smith.”

However. . .before the gnashing of teeth and rending of garments begins, let’s clarify a few things.

The Vikings have designated this as a post-1 June cut, and it’s a largely procedural move. The reason for it is that Smith has still not yet decided whether or not he will be coming back for a fifteenth NFL season in 2026. The team will welcome him back in 2026 if he decides to return, but this move simply gives him more time to make that decision while not taking up a roster spot as the Vikings move through free agency.

Smith also had a $25 million base salary guarantee that was set to trigger if he was still on the roster on Friday and. . .well, that’s not happening now. That’s probably a pretty smart move.

Reports are saying that the team and Smith are in talks and that if Smith does decide that he wants to return for the 2026 season, the team would welcome him back.

Whats your definition of high level?

Gzuz our standard is low.

Lets sign Murray and hope he plays better and more consistently under KOC. Lets hope JJM develops quickly into a player.

Talking about either like we’re open for playoff business is a long way off. A lot needs to happen first.

This is...not ideal...

Kyler Murray's Deep Ball Problem

If quarterbacks need to be able to throw the ball downfield, Kyler Murray is one of the NFL’s worst starting quarterbacks.

Murray has traditionally struggled massively to throw a football downfield, and 2025 added to that legacy.

On passes 20+ yards downfield, out of 42 qualifying QBs, Murray ranked #39 in accuracy and #38 in completion rate.

Let’s examine Murray’s NFL rank over the last four years by depth.

On 25+ yard passes, Murray ranks:

#36 of 36 in completion rate (21%)
#36 of 36 in EPA/attempt (-0.18)
#36 of 36 in Y/A (7.5)

How about 20+ yards downfield?

Murray ranks:

#40 of 46 in completion rate (30%)
#45 of 46 in EPA/attempt (-0.16)
#42 of 46 in Y/A (8.7)

How about 15+ yards downfield?

Murray ranks:

#42 of 51 in completion rate (38%)
#51 of 51 in EPA/attempt (+0.05)
#47 of 51 in Y/A (9.3)

We really only need to stop there, because throwing the ball less than 15 yards isn’t really considered taking “a shot downfield,” but to just put a bow on the analysis, let’s look at all passes over 10 yards downfield.

I raised the cutoff to 175 attempts to further reduce the pool. Murray ranks:

#36 of 43 in completion rate (43%)
#43 of 43 in EPA/attempt (+0.08)
#41 of 43 in Y/A (8.8)

These aren’t just bad numbers. These are terrible numbers.

There are 32 qualifying quarterbacks.

Murray doesn’t rank in the top 32 throwing downfield, regardless of whether your definition is 10 yards, 15 yards, 20 yards, or 25 yards.

As Murray becomes one of the most talked about quarterbacks in trade discussions, it’s hard to imagine where a quarterback with a massive limitation of throwing the football downfield can become a franchise QB that actually wins meaningful games for teams.

Kyler Murray's Extensive Injury History

He’s not getting better.

He’s getting older and suffering more injuries as the years go by.

Since 2020, Murray has made it through just one of five seasons healthy.

His injury record is extensive:

2025: played only 5 of 17 games after suffering a Lisfranc-type mid-foot sprain
2023: played only 8 of 17 games due to rehabbing his prior-year ACL injury
2022: suffered a hamstring strain, missed multiple games, then tore his ACL and meniscus
2021: suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain and missed multiple games

https://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/analysis/kyler-murray-deep-ball-stats-trade-analysis-2026/#

Bump.

The facts show Murray sucks at pretty much all levels of passing but especially the deep and medium throws.

As it stands he's probably the worse fit possible.

Prediction: Murray-Mania grows over the summer. KOC will not change his system. Once the games begin Murray will find some early success by going off script like Dobbs did. Defenses will adapt and bottle that up, especially because injuries and age have slowed Murray's running/scrambling ability. Murray will tease and some fans will want to resign him for a fairly large contract based on the age old yet nebulous and fanciful 'just imagine what he could do in his second season here.'

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (3/11/2026 6:41:50 PM)

Mark Wilf said today that Vikings fans deserve to be "competitively entertained". That's a clear sign Murray will be a Viking.

I can't believe the Colts gave Danny dimes $88 mil for a year and a half

he is not going to be available for about half of 26, and how good will he be for the rest of the year?

that's nuts to me.

1.3 mil on Murray is such a steal!

Hope we keep him away from the Steelers for 2 reasons...

Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins

one of those 3 are gonna be our starter

It's got to be Murray. Murray was a Vikngs fan as a kid. Kinda feel sorry for him. All those years as a Cardinal when he really wanted to be a Viking.
