OMG its exasperating to read people still holding out hope for JJM...

Face it...he is toast...

He is not gonna scrap his way back to start here, maybe anywhere

I just pray we can trade him for more than a local bus fare

JMO but I think there's more to this than it seems. I don't see JJM being here much longer. There's just weird vibes between he and KOC. I have no proof of that. Just a hunch.

Something seems off.

Hopefully someone took JJM's phone away from him I fear he is going to tweet something immature/stupid and this becomes even more of a hot point.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/13/2026 7:49:42 AM)

there is no way his 5th year option is picked up next May.

While the probability seems very low he could still change minds if/when Kyler gets dinged and he comes in and plays out of his mind.

This is true. There are qualifiers galore, and I've used some, but won't be adding to every related sentence.

- At this point in time
- Based on what has happened
- Barring a sudden breakthrough
- Uphill struggle
- The odds are slim
- Not out of football yet
- Perhaps if

Yeah, forgot about Penix.

What makes Phil's QBOTF remarks all the more strange is the timing. A mere 24 hours after JJM is officially relegated to being a backup, Phil labels him as the QBOTF! Benchwarming QBs everywhere, it's time to stand up and proudly crown yourselves!

It could be like a game show:
JJM: I am the QBOTF
Wentz: I am the QBOTF
Brosmer: I am the QBOTF

So contestant, who is the real QBOTF?

Trick question... they ALL are!

Really?
Before he was hurt 2 years ago there was a good chance Darnold was starting instead of him.

Talk about convenient.....the Vikings will be more successful with Murray and JJ with Murray starting this year.

Would you rather not have JJ as backup and Murray not starting? [&o]

Well if you buy into infallible training camp reports … which I swallow whole like a gopher snake’s bird egg …

JJ will atleast shift our main backup paradigm from inexplicable limp-armed, saavy, semi-retired coaching crutch - to - wild eyed and wild armed, fire-in-the-belly, usurper want-to-be.

Doubt it will change outcomes much but it should make things spicier than mannion, mullens, wentz, etc.

So there’s that.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/13/2026 9:34:33 AM)

Again, no proof, just a hunch but I think KOC just doesn't like JJM or something about his personality. It started when he missed practice for his kids birth and carried out in his Griddy that he was told not to do.

Yes, he was wildly erratic at times but also had some really nice flashes and you can't question his fire. Still, only 10 starts?? His comp % is a whopping .5% lower than Caleb Williams who the media is fawning over. To me, it all points to something about his personality and not potential.

What really seems weird is how KOC didn't pick it up pre-draft (if, in fact, I'm right).

Its an interesting narrative. I can see what you’re saying but, of course, its hidden behind all of KOCs daily JJ affirmational coachspeak.

I’m not going to lie, it would be fun to see a KOC-JJ version of the Zimmer-Cousins shoving match.

I don't see it as a personality issue. There are things that KOC can't do with the offense if it isn't fixed. 1) JJM has to get his footwork figured out so you he can complete an out route to the right, 2) he has to process faster, and 3) most importantly he has to learn to protect himself better and be less reckless as a starter as we need him not to miss games.

I think this has more to do with playing style than accuracy.

Caleb has plenty of warts, but he also is capable of making some throws that few QBs would even attempt. And because he has that confidence in his arm, he tends to take a lot of chances on high reward/high risk throws.

JJ just misses a lot of easy throws. He throws everything at max velocity - which makes for a lot of overthrows on longer routes, and less catchable balls on shorter ones.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/13/2026 11:05:29 AM)

The kid definitely has fire, but he also feels a little bit uncoachable. Maybe losing the job for performance reasons instead of injury will humble him some.

I still think he eventually ends up in SD.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/13/2026 11:30:13 AM)

Ok, kinda sad but also "ahhhhhhhgggg". I'm listening to Coller pod from last night and he's starting to confirm it. JJM and KOC are at odds. According to him (and I'm still listening), JJM would try and change the playbook in meetings based on "what he's seen" and KOC was like "dude, really? KC's and SD didn't do this and i'm the guy".

I'm paraphrasing but it's basically:

KOCv= "this is the way it's done, it's my system"

JJM + "trust me bro, I know"

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/13/2026 11:31:52 AM)

BTW - this is not what Coller is feeling, its what ppl are telling him behind the scenes

Chris Olson -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/13/2026 11:31:56 AM)

Gotta say I love how JJM responded to the coaching decision as beyond his control an that he will continue working hard for when his number is called

Mannion's problem was he had the posture and behavior of a station wagon. But under that boxy exterior was an unflappable, Steve McQueen cool dragster. He'd throw two interceptions, not bat an eye, and the next series he was throwing another bomb. Probably the most underrated spicy QB that ever existed.

So remarkably you changed your claim of McCarthy as your "QBOTF" into a bizarre multi-year Vikings QB corps scenario involving Darnold and Murray.

And your accusation veiled as a dumbass question and emoji is a non-starter because Murray was going to start over JJM, rightly so, the moment he signed here.

I've read my posts written since the Murray-to-Minny scenario became a possibility. JJM never entered the equation as being a starter, so stop with your BS. You want to pretend I said something, do the right thing and quote it for once instead of using sly chicken-shit distortions.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/13/2026 3:26:30 PM)

Kyler has done well in practices since being named the starter though. That is what you want to see.

During Day 11 of training camp, after being named starting quarterback, Kyler Murray responded with an exceptionally accurate performance. Operating exclusively with the first-team offense, Murray completed 15 of 16 pass attempts across 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills. His single incompletion of the day was a deep pass to Jordan Addison that fell just out of reach. He quickly rebounded, connecting with Addison on back-to-back plays—first on a perfectly timed out route and then on a touch pass to the sideline. Murray highlighted the afternoon by hitting Justin Jefferson

Murray carried that high-efficiency momentum into Day 12, showcasing his ability to extend plays and test the defense deep. He completed 14 of 17 pass attempts, including a highly efficient 9-for-11 mark during 11-on-11 team periods. The practice featured several explosive highlights, including a deep completion downfield to Justin Jefferson and a play where Murray escaped defensive pressure to find tight end T.J. Hockenson along the sideline. He closed out another strong day by ripping a throw to Tai Felton in space and finding Jauan Jennings with a pinpoint pass.

The truth is your constant need for Validation: A constant reliance on external praise and attention to maintain a fragile self-esteem.
Bill your narcissism has your self esteem at lower levels the JJM.

Football is a team game yet you constantly point to one player.....so JJM can't be a "QBOTF" similar to what Rodgers or Jordan Love because why again?

Murray can be the QB of now and JJM can still be QBOTF even if you if you once again can't accept it....

Pointing to one player? No, I pointed to you and your take on one player.

Here you go again with football being a team game. It just so happens QB is far and away the preeminent position. As such, Murray will be in the spotlight. And given Murray's injury history, the backup QB should be also, to a degree.

You created a strawman by saying JJM's situation "applied just fine to Love and Rodgers for up to 4 years." and is "similar to what Rodgers or Jordan Love". No, the two situations are not similar, they are very different. And JJM's situation is not equally "just fine".

Even with posters saying your definition of "QBOTF" is way off, you continue to think you have it all figured out.

That's fine. At least this time part of your reply tried to address the topic. You go on believing your strawman and your alternate definitions.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/13/2026 6:35:39 PM)

As the QB situation goes, saw something in a comment on DN that may (?) make sense. On gamedays, make Wentz the backup and JJM the #3/Emergency QB. Then if Murray is injured Wentz can step in and complete the game. For injuries to Murray that are longer than just that day, JJM starts the next game with Wentz the backup. Ideally (IMO) find someone better than Brosmer to back them up depending if Murray counts against the 53.

One can argue the former hurts grooming JJM in return for wasted game action on an old maxed out guy. But, for W/L records and in turn a coaches ability to continue his job, that might make sense because Wentz is more apt to immediately step in and calm the waters. Just get through that game.

For the latter, it gives JJM a week (+/-) to prepare.

On the surface it makes sense, but any pros/cons to this?

Chris Olson -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/14/2026 6:45:45 AM)

I love that idea...feels right that Wentz would step in on the fly more easily than JJM

giving JJM a little more prep time to be the #1 might really be the best move...

Not sure about how that affects his psyche, he still seems like such a kid

But he took the Murray to start news pretty well, maybe he deserves some credit if KOC can get him on board with that plan
