J.J. McCarthy won't play for the Vikings tonight, per source. They'd worked the past two days to get him back from the ankle injury he sustained against the Ravens on Saturday, but McCarthy ultimately wasn't comfortable enough with how his ankle felt to play against the Broncos.
God pleaseeeeeeeeeee get traded

QB Predictions

Best QB if bone structure stays intact: Wentz
Helter Skelter fun whirling dervish QB: Murray
Best Rah Rah Go Team Go QB: JJM
Most depressed because I can't beat out this trash heap QB: Brosmer

Minor footnote in the qb saga, but cut Brosmer loose. He’s done. His game has gone to hell. He was a better QB with the Gophers. A capable Big 10 QB who played with poise and productivity. Mind you, I never thought he’d be a star in the NFL, but I thought he had the skills to latch on somewhere and get clipboard and backup duty for a few years. Not a bad gig.

I don’t know what happened but he’s not the same player now. If he was air mailing balls 6 feet over the head of wide open receivers in the end zone with the Gophers, the only way he’d have gotten a whiff of an NFL jersey would be at Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/29/2026 6:34:48 AM)

I watched about 2/3 into the second quarter and got bored with shitty defense and offensive playcall that didn’t even try to get first downs, bad blocking, air mailed wto g zip code passes and the special teams coverage looking like ushers at a rock concert..

I know it’s pre season, by
Ut yeesh..

Green Bay will steamroll us. In the opener.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/29/2026 7:38:30 AM)

Caleb Banks looks absolutely unplayable. Not a good start considering where he was drafted.

I feel they have offer on the table that they do not want to risk losing.

J.J. McCarthy won't play for the Vikings tonight in Denver. He suffered a minor ankle injury last weekend vs. Ravens, participated in light practices Monday-Tuesday and sat out Wednesday. Didn't feel comfortable playing tonight, but no concerns from the team long-term.

Per Kevin Seifert

I’ve never wanted someone to be right, so badly.

Just move on. Guy is worse than a china doll

During the game tonight PA said JJ didn't feel like going on the ankle tonight so that is why he didn't dress for the game.....[&o]

Regime: OK J.J., sure it's just preseason but we've got a lot of work planned for you in the game as we go through the development plan.

JJM: I don't feel like it.

The very definition of a project. His injuries were one thing, but so was his lack of production when he did play. Maybe the team was transfixed on that one game where he tossed blockers around like rag dolls.

Success or failure for players like him often hinge on how strong the desire is to improve, work ethic, etc. And barring a light bulb moment, that's probably already known.

He looks like a guy who has to have limited snaps. Technique needs lots of work. He should watch film of KWill and Henry Thomas.

A couple reasons for optimism is he was a team captain at Florida so he doesn't have a Haynesworth type attitude. And our coaches have developed a few young guys the last couple years (Redmond, LDR, EWilliams).

Our depth is definitely a concern.

3rd stringers and a few of our 2's did not look good. I have a feeling Teasley will be busy looking at other teams' cuts coming up.

Hopefully Danielle Hunter 2.0

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/29/2026 3:24:43 PM)

Talent-wise I put us in the 15-25 range of the league.

Kind of hard to gauge because, a) Flores gets more out of his defense than the individual pieces, and b) our qb room is a real wildcard.

I’m firmly against the argument ‘we did this last year with so and so but we have this guy this year, etc’

I dont see us as having a top ten position group outside of wr.

The OTs are solid but the IOL is nothing to write home about.

I’m having a hard time being enthusiastic about what I’m going to be glued to for the next 3 months.

stfrank -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/29/2026 3:54:14 PM)

The good thing about the preseason is they have sufficiently lowered my expectations to start the season. If we get a few injuries to our top guys we could be in big trouble real fast. I don't see this team doing much better than 9-8 and even that could be a stretch.

i wonder if he's in football shape...missed most of last season, injured his foot again, on the couch much of this year...probably won't be in shape until next year....

From pure looks, he looks like a guy an offensive lineman sees when walking to the LOS and says Holy Shit, I have to block this guy? But the video is out, and they're like I'm going to obliterate this guy while he is raw.

I'd go with Richard Seymour mixed in with a little Keith Millard but KWill and lunch-bucket Hank works well.

Developed? IMO developing, although Redmond was a hidden gem and is different from the others. If he keeps his trajectory, they better not try to be penny wise because they will end up pound foolish. An ever improving Redmond is going to be a relatively early test and decision for Teasley.

They probably had him working on lots of different things that didn't put pressure on his foot and he has been healed for a few months. Yes there is football shape, but really hope he is close to it well before next year.

There is desire, training, coaching, and technique. And Flores' philosophy of not rushing rookies onto the field.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/29/2026 7:37:33 PM)

Cutdown day. Fairly predictable but as someone pointed out S could be interesting, and CB might be too.

There are usually a couple of transactions in the couple of days after the cut to 53. I hope they at least pick up a center.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/30/2026 2:44:54 PM)

I just cant get passed it.

We have the reputed Qb Whisperer who ended last season by demanding a big upgrade to the talent / depth in our qb room. We got a great financial value on a jettisoned ex-starter from a bad team. A top ten pick going nowhere. The monty pyhon’s Black Knight from The Holy Grail as a backup. An undrafted dude who has quickly digressed to nothing.

Ay chihuahua.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/30/2026 5:34:59 PM)

Roster released. No huge surprises but mild ones, IMO

Thorson over Hekker
Claiborne over Scott
Tavierre Thomas being released
Lowdermilk being released

Bell, Yurosek, Brosmer made the cut. Fodder for roster alignment? IOL reserves consist of just Huber but Jurgens can return after 4 games.

Going into the season very healthy. No starters hurt, unless one counts Adams.

Interesting way of putting it. I always expect another couple players to not stick to the original 53, just don't remember hearing it that way.

The major surprise to me is Brosmer making the roster. That tells me the Vikings want to unload JJ and can't find a taker. I expect in the coming days they will find someone willing to part with a 6 or 7 for JJ or release him. I think they just want him off the team at this point.

The Vikings could create absolute fireworks in the two weeks prior to Week 1:

+ Harrison Smith returns
+ Joey Bosa is signed
- J.J. McCarthy is traded

What does the FO see in Brosmer.

Detroit last year was Josh Freeman level bad.
This year in preseason he didn't show much growth.

After watching plenty of "no name" qbs sling the ball around in preseason... I think I'd move on from Brosmer.

Going back to what Sweens said above, the QB situation is not yet settled.
