Spend on what? A nice #3 wr?

Disappointing offseason. If I had to use one word to characterize it, I would use ‘cautious’.

Feels like we are trying to inject more youth / trying a more developmental, less stop gap approach. Except for QB … we found a good bargain and called it a day.

Ho hum.

Vikings signed QB Max Brosmer, OLB Kyle Van Noy, RB DeeJay Dallas and WR Dillon Bell to their practice squad.

I would only let go of KOC, if Flores became the head coach.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/5/2026 7:09:06 AM)

I hope the Vikings have a counter to the Packers trying to play faster, some screens, and maybe Murray can bust off some runs to counter their aggression.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/5/2026 6:48:52 PM)

Tom Pelissero:

Six-time Pro Bowl safety Harrison Smith and the Vikings agreed on a one-year contract to bring him back for a 15th NFL season, sources say.

The deal has a base value of $8 million and can be worth up to $16M with incentives — a compromise to keep a legacy player in the fold.

Harrison Smith’s one-year deal with the Vikings includes $4 million in per-game active bonuses and another $4M in incentives tied to postseason performance, with the max $16M unlocked if the Vikings win the Super Bowl.

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/5/2026 6:56:20 PM)

Now it's a matter of how long it takes for him to be ready to play.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/5/2026 7:08:13 PM)

One could assume, as per what we have been told of how he takes care of himself, not as long as the avg player going back for his 15th season. ;)

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/5/2026 7:34:21 PM)

Harrison Smith should be ready to capture the game winning fumble from Marshawn Lloyd, probably caused by Eric Wilson, leading to the game winning field goal by Will Reichard in the Vikings 1st game of 2026.

Used sparingly at RB but has returned kicks and has a kickoff return TD to his credit, so there’s that I guess.

nfrosty -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/6/2026 12:36:23 PM)

I suspect that Smiths wait to join had more to do with money than anything else. He was suppose to get about 24 million on his old contract before he was cut by the Vikings. Being the class type of guy Smith is, he and his agent were probably tight lipped about it while he waited for a decent offer.

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/6/2026 4:18:12 PM)

I suspect it had something to do with not wanting to do training camp.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/6/2026 5:25:07 PM)

Yeah, after the restructure a couple of years ago the parties signed off on that typical trigger ~ if x is on the roster by y day the team will be obligated to pay a gazillion dollars. Both sides know that will not happen.

But his $10+ million in void money will still be on the books somehow. Kwesi lives!

Both posts above seem reasonable. I'll offer a third reason... that being perhaps he was unsure - like REALLY unsure - if he wanted to go another year. He's delivered some hits over 14 years but there are no long-term winners with being in literally hundreds of big collisions. Maybe he protected his head more than most, but the 'Hitman" moniker might age bad 20 years from now.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/6/2026 7:18:19 PM)

I do not get the fascination with old Harrison smith.. **** him..
he can’t cover and his tackling is getting worse by the day..

Thee only thing he is good st is the run up blitz and catching softballs lobbed in his general direction..

Move the **** on, from his ancient ass..

BisonFan -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/7/2026 7:22:22 AM)

Football season is here and couldn't be happier. So many questions to be answered for the Vikings. Can Murray lead us to the promise land? Will Juice and Banks make a "big" difference in our D-line? Will we actually have a decent run game or will KOC abandon it after two weeks? Will the Hitman be able to perform when on the field (I have my doubts). So many more.

I am turning 65 this week and have followed the Purple and Gold my entire life. Please, please, I am begging our team to win the Super Bowl once.

Let's cheer on our team. SKOL!!!!

With Smith's years on the team and the entire offseason to mull things over, the regime had more knowledge and opportunity to decide about him than probably any player in team history. Likely a Flores decision with a little PR sprinkled in.

Seems Smith hit the proverbial wall 2-3 years ago, but when Flores calls a play that is a branch of a sequel to a root or whatever while going way off script, Smith plays on-field translator very well and that allows Metellus to focus on his 11 different positions on defense.

No fascination, more of a shrug and we suddenly have a new starter at safety in Sept.

Yes. That Smith would ultimately come back was a poorly kept secret. The reaction to his signing was just acknowledging that it happened and speculation on the timing. I wasn't overjoyed, but I also don't agree with **** him.

How it impacts the Vikings? He certainly isn't the player he was, but last year he was still effective. As Bill alluded to, Smith is the proverbial coach on the field. He is arguably the smartest defensive player in the NFL.

More like 2 plays

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/7/2026 11:16:24 AM)

Smiths days of playing close to the LOS are over. That should be Mettellus's job.

12m for a guy that will just quit on a blitz (if he gets picked up) is embarrassing to watch.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/7/2026 11:46:16 AM)

I miss Cam Bynum and the celebrations.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/7/2026 11:49:01 AM)

Anyone else feel that this will be a season where we don't really get answers, a mediocre season of ups and downs ?

The change in run blocking scheme, along with firing the OL coach, gives me hope the run game will be better.

Seems like a 9-8 season.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/7/2026 12:45:19 PM)

Ourlads still shows 54 on the active roster. https://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/depthchart/MIN

Smith keeps in shape for all his pre-snap sprinting … forward, backward, etc. He has the highest pre-snap production (QBs thinking wtf is is this dude up to, etc) than any other defender in the game.

Once the ball snaps … meh, he’s just okay. But pre-snap … he is the perfect complement to all of Flores’ chicanery and skulduggery. Thus, the diabolical chuckle from the sideline before the ball is snapped and the 12m+ contract.

Smith would kick ass in musical chairs, moonwalking, 40m backward running events, tennis, or fancy off-Broadway dance troupes.
