Football season is here and couldn't be happier. So many questions to be answered for the Vikings. Can Murray lead us to the promise land? Will Juice and Banks make a "big" difference in our D-line? Will we actually have a decent run game or will KOC abandon it after two weeks? Will the Hitman be able to perform when on the field (I have my doubts). So many more.

I am turning 65 this week and have followed the Purple and Gold my entire life. Please, please, I am begging our team to win the Super Bowl once.

Let's cheer on our team. SKOL!!!!

Only two more years and you can collect full ss benefits ;) For me it's draining thinking about how much energy Ive put into being a Viking fan over the years

I am starting to run out of energy and thinking of Einstein's quote about insansity.

The NFL wants it to be a 365 day affair. Heck, the upcoming SB is Feb 14 then 'legal tampering' begins about 3 weeks later on Mar 9.

Camp used to be a whatever affair but now every snap is analyzed, although that is clearly overkill... for now. Preseason is still mostly bogus.

Not trying to be an ass but being honest. Does Smith coming back move the needle? I'm sure it's an emotional lift but he was pretty 'blah' for most of the season. He had some really cool moments when it didn't really matter but overall it was kinda [>:]

One final year of Smith as the on-field coach before he becomes a coach for real is how I see it.....

Hopefully he makes some sort of a difference but yeah, that should be the no brainer. It's a lot of scratch for that role but it's not my cash so [8|]

Anyone else feel that this will be a season where we don't really get answers, a mediocre season of ups and downs ?

The change in run blocking scheme, along with firing the OL coach, gives me hope the run game will be better.

Seems like a 9-8 season.

I would add also....how about a healthy LT and LG to start the season? I forgot which game Jackson got hurt and also Fries is one more year removed after a serious leg injury.

Seems Smith hit the proverbial wall 2-3 years ago, but when Flores calls a play that is a branch of a sequel to a root or whatever while going way off script, Smith plays on-field translator very well and that allows Metellus to focus on his 11 different positions on defense.

No fascination, more of a shrug and we suddenly have a new starter at safety in Sept.

Yes. That Smith would ultimately come back was a poorly kept secret. The reaction to his signing was just acknowledging that it happened and speculation on the timing. I wasn't overjoyed, but I also don't agree with **** him.

How it impacts the Vikings? He certainly isn't the player he was, but last year he was still effective. As Bill alluded to, Smith is the proverbial coach on the field. He is arguably the smartest defensive player in the NFL.

Smith keeps in shape for all his pre-snap sprinting … forward, backward, etc. He has the highest pre-snap production (QBs thinking wtf is is this dude up to, etc) than any other defender in the game.

Once the ball snaps … meh, he’s just okay. But pre-snap … he is the perfect complement to all of Flores’ chicanery and skulduggery. Thus, the diabolical chuckle from the sideline before the ball is snapped and the 12m+ contract.

I do remember Smith taking wrong angles but the guy always seems to be in the right spot.

So grateful to be here for talk about the chicanery and skulduggery of Flores D...and the lack thereof in KOC's running game...

I still think Smith is an asset on D

surprised there are folks still picking GB to beat us in wk 1

Feeling like we are going to best them on both sides of the ball

Kyler gonna ball out and the D is gonna be even better than last year

Agreed, he's taken a dive big time and last year barely made the top 3rd of all eligible safetys. Not sure why he's getting 12 mil either, kind of dumb.

I remember him quitting on a blitz not even engaging the would be blocker. Smith has been making business decisions on the field the last couple years now. This should have been a vet min signing.

I know Bill mentioned Void $$$ but he had 3 million voided on the previous contract into 2026.....so that most likely is part of 12 million? The confusing part is what actual money he is getting paid.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/9/2026 8:20:33 AM)

VikingzFanPage
@vikingzfanpage
#Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell says one of Harrison Smith’s workouts is dunking a basketball 40 times: 20 off his left foot, 20 off his right foot.

“I immediately called foul on that. I’m gonna need to see that at some point… Hitman’s in shape.”

The $12.25 million is a NEW contract according to at least a couple of articles, if he is on the active roster for all 17 games ($235K per). The playoff incentives are probably NLTBE so no cap issue.

How much actual money he will get paid is pretty straightforward but based on two assumptions about his health and the teams post-season participation. Guessing he suits up for 12 games so he'll make $11 million. And he would collect another million if the team makes the playoffs. And if they advance, there are more $$ the more they win.

Separately, the team has $10.6 million total in voided/dead money spread over 2026 and 2027. A team can have simultaneous line items for a contract and voided money for a player.

They will most likely kick the can and create more void years/money out of the $7 million signing bonus and the $10.6 million in current total dead money.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/9/2026 10:33:41 AM)

I'm glad he's back, don't get me wrong. He will help with the mental side of the game. The "coach on the field" cliche crap. That said, I don't see him impacting the game much when the ball is snapped. That's what I meant. It's really not a big deal but people (not here, but in general) are all geeked up because "the hitman is back" ~~~~ meh.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/9/2026 10:35:11 AM)

In fact, I would have put money down that they draft that kid out of Oregon and let Smith mentor him for a year.

Totally agree. This is not the 2017 Harrison Smith. He'll be 38 before the season is over. Good QBs are going to target him and it will get ugly.

But there is KOC yapping about how he is dunking basketballs [&o]

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/9/2026 10:43:37 AM)

That said, Ward, Jackson, and the Thomas triplets are nothing to write home about.

Kind of a wash.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (9/9/2026 10:49:20 AM)

The real Smith contract breakdown:

- Presnap: $4 million
- Mentor: $3 million
- Metellus free to roam: $3 million
- PR: $2 million
- Thanks for 15 years: $2 million

- Post-snap production: Minus $2 million

Once again you vastly underestimate the ferocity of tabletop nerfball dunking contests in rest homes.

While Aunt Mildred goes right for the throat, The Hitman has to wheel around a bit and check his oxygen level before each turn.

Glad he’s on my team.

Geeked up is right. Its simply a story that has appeal because the team appears to be more than just a bunch of cold calculating bastards.

Yes, a very cynical view but …

KOC has named Wentz as the backup behind Murray.

Have to wonder about Carson Wentz. Last year he played with half a torso and had a better QBR than JJM.

Back when training camp was in its first few days there were already thoughts of Wentz > McCarthy.

There is a starting QB on the west coast that hurt his hip and may be out the year.....1st and 3rd for JJ?
