McCarthy already hurt again huh? This isn't going well.

Correct....hurt after 1 game after missing a season. Very bad.

JJ McCarthy will not play Sunday. Ankle injury. Wentz to start the next game.

Probably lucky, he got bent in some akward positions Sunday night.

As I said earlier, I almost thought he re-injured his knee at one point.

They are playing with fire if they continue to design an offense when blitzers can tee up against him
Missing another year to inury would be a blow to his development

It does not help, that the play calls are late and long winded, so that the snap count is always at less then 2-3 seconds on the play clock..

Not once did we try hurry up.. untill the end of first half..

When your offense looks good going on quick calls/ counts and like shit on word salad play calls and trying to be cute, you have an offensive scheme design problem.. KOC.. period.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/15/2025 3:26:49 PM)

Maybe by year 7 he can accumulate a years worth of experience. This is a joke.

He did get sacked 6 times and took 16 QB hits. And some of those were pretty vicious.

Lars -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/15/2025 3:46:18 PM)

I know McCarthy played poorly - made some bad decisions and missed some throws.

But the offense AS A WHOLE - was shitty again. It's like there is no consideration given to what the opposing defense is CLEARLY doing or what elements are or are not present on the field (injuries, etc.) I don't know that it is being stubborn, clueless, arrogant, or what. But I saw ATL going with heavy formations, 2 TE, etc. and hammering the rock with a lot of max protect - and MIN leaving Skule all alone while running plays with late breaking routes, etc. and very little in the way of no adjustments. Very frustrating to watch.

So the play where O'Neil didn't even block the guy.

Was that a QB, Line, or just a miss by O'Neil.

Reasoning is what line checks were being done by Kelly up to that point and who did them afterwards.
Same thing with the defense.....who was doing the line checks w/o Cashman and coverage checks w/o Harry.

i think that hockenson missed a 'chip' on that play....

The RBs should be Mason and Chandler.

It's like the rewarded Aaron Jones for being a good guy.

None of those guys are elite running backs. It's a passing league. If you ain't throwing it 45 times, you have no chance at keeping pace.

mason between the tackles and play-action...it's that simple....

o'connell is trying to make a chess game out of it - it's football, man....

We are counting on Wentz staying healthy (how many snaps until Max)?

I'm thinking QB controversy after 3 consecutive wins.[:D]

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/15/2025 5:44:37 PM)

I know you say that tongue and cheek, but don't be surprised. Flores is going to blitz Jake Browning all day and the Bengal defense is not very good. The next week we get Addison back and a terrible Pittsburgh defense. Cleveland to follow. It's the softest part of the schedule.

timz -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/15/2025 5:52:12 PM)

Just heard on NFL Radio McCarthy is likely to miss 3-4 weeks.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/15/2025 7:13:16 PM)

Seifert:

J.J. McCarthy is out 2-4 weeks, per @AdamSchefter

That would put him out for Week 3 vs. Bengals and Week 4 vs. Steelers in Dublin.

So do they bring him to Europe to continue recovery and have him start Week 5 vs. Browns in London?

Or do they sit him through the Week 6 bye?

Matters how Wentz plays. KOC did it with Darnold can he repeat with Wentz?

BisonFan -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/16/2025 7:08:32 AM)

The offense definitely horrible on Sunday and KOC didn't help with his play calling. There is such as a thing as a three step drop and get rid of the ball. Not happy JJ is hurt, but it might give him a little time to catch his breath and reset now that he has played a couple of real NFL games. Hoping Wentz can lead us to three straight wins.

Unlikely. Wentz just got here while he had all summer to work with Darnold.

Dobbs reeled off two wins after showing up the mid-week before his first game. Didn't even know where the Vikings facility was.

I'm all for having him sit until week one of the 2026 preseason. I saw nothing that says he is ready to play in the NFL.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/16/2025 9:04:19 AM)

The loss of McCarthy is addition by subtraction. We have nowhere to go but up.

Really? Didn't you compare him to Baker after his first start? I bet I can find the post.

How good do you think Baker is?

I did say he had a little Baker Mayfield in him after the opening game. This week I saw JaMarcus Russell.

Quite a wide range in 2 weeks....don't you say?

A little Baker Mayfield. A lot of JaMarcus Russell through two weeks.

Key word....LITTLE

And for clarification, it isn't two weeks. It's his second season. He's also got a lot of Sam Bradford (injuries) in him.

It is two games. Maybe JJ, Wentz, or Max will be the man, but it isn't Sam any more. Sorry dude. We are talking Wentz now and you can lay off of JJ.
