David F. -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (8/18/2009 3:53:33 PM)

Random predictions in no particular order:

With Farvee on the roster the Vikings will find themselves benefitting from PLENTY of favorable calls from the refs.  We will be on the 'good' side of Marty's 'sway scale' more than we have ever ever known as Vike's fans.

Our record will be either 15-1 or 14-2.

AD and Chester Taylor will BOTH combine for over 1000 yards rushing and receiving.

Shianco will catch 60+ passes for 800-900 yards.

Berrian will have 3 games in which he catches AT LEAST 3 40+ yd TDs.

AD wins MVP.

In either the NFC Championship game or the Superbowl, the Vikes will lose in a fashion that is astonishing/crazy/unbelievble/spirit-crushing.  Hey - its still the Vikes right?  I don't know the details but it will forever be mentioned in the same tone as the Drew Pearson push-off, the Gary Anderson missed field goal, or just insert any other heartbreaking moment in Vikings history.

Now, if you will all excuse me, I have a sudden and uncontrollable urge to go buy some Wrangler Jeans.

In December, we're going to win HFA.

In January, we're going to win the NFC.

Unofrtunately, it's going to be a long August.

my guess for first play of the season

play action to AP, BF rolls out and dumps it to Jimmy K on a drag route for a gain of 7

and so begins the kick ass

hey, my prediction may still happen, in fact it is fairly likely, IMO

This would not be good.  Most likely the Vikings make the playoffs with this record but are not real Superbowl contenders.  Which means Childress has done just enough to get to finish his contract.....Favre waffles about one more shot at going out a winner.....We get stuck basically repeating everything we said this year.

John Childress -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (8/31/2009 10:56:58 AM)

That is what I see happening.

I could easily see this season falling short of potential but over fire Bard level

that is the worst possible scenario, IMO, but very possible

that would be worse than signing Farve, Mcmahon, Deion Sanders, Michael Irvin, all at the same time

ok, maybe not quite that bad, but close

Zigy just doesn't come off as the type of guy who will fire someone that makes the playoffs, no matter if the expectations were higher.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/9/2009 12:40:04 PM)

OK, time for my predictions for the 2009 NFL Season.

We will start with the NFC.

NFC West
Sucky division will once again send crap to the playoffs (although last year’s crap made it to and almost won the SB).

Arizona – is a bit of a surprising team.  They didn’t win a lot of games last year, but won in the playoffs.  They need to get there again to have any chance.  Their offense will depend a great deal on Kurt Warner staying upright all year and not missing time.  If he goes down.,  so do the Cards’ hopes.  That’s a lot to pin on a 38 year old immobile QB.

Seattle – It all depends on the QB here too.  If Hasselbeck gets ouchy again…Seattle will disappear again…but they can’t possibly have the same number of injuries to one position (WR)  like they did last year.  The only thing keeping this team from returning to the top of this division is the coaching situation.  Jim Mora Jr proved pretty inconsistent in Atlanta…will that continue here.

San Francisco – May have a pretty good running game…they’d better…cause their passing game will be horrendous.  Their defense should be good.  They could surprise, but I think the QB situation will be their downfall.  Alex Smith or Shaun Hill folks?  Pick your poison.

St. Louis – Unless they pull a Dolphins they are in complete rebuilding mode (in this division it is entirely possible.  Don’t expect much from this team.

Division winner:  Seattle recovers.  Stays healthy at QB and WR and wins the division with a 9-7 record.  Nobody else from this division goes to the playoffs.

NFC South

Carolina – It’s falling apart fast down there.  Delhomme is getting old and can’t stay healthy.  The defense will struggle.  John Fox will be one of the first casualties in next offseason’s coaching carousel..  Deangelo Williams will be their only bright spot.

Tampa – See St. Louis…total rebuild mode.  New coach, New QB, Just fired the OC.  This team is not going to compete much this year.

New Orleans – Biggest coaching pickup of the year.  Williams the DC.  This teams offense will rack up huge yards and score plenty of points.  The Defense has to improve and they did a LOT this offseason to improve it…most importantly getting one of the better DCs out there.

Atlanta – Will fight for a WC again…but will miss out this time.  I believe Matt Ryan will still have a good year…but they will regress a bit and miss the playoffs again.
Division winner:  Saints.   Only WC chance here is Atlanta…

NFC East

NY Giants – Big ??? at WR and Eli struggled when he didn’t have a reliable out guy to pass to once Plaxico shot himself.  Defense should be dominant again…but reports are Usi isn’t looking recovered yet.  Could be problematic

Washington – Who will Jason Campbell throw to?  The defense should be improved and if they play run run run they will win a few.

Dallas – They have some interesting players, But Wade Phillips is not going to be able to keep up the façade of how he’s coaching all season.  He just isn’t this kind of guy.  It wont last.  Losing TO will help and hurt.  Getting Felix Jones back will help.  The defense might struggle a little bit.  Tony Romo will show once and for all if he’s all that or not (I think it’s not).

Philly – have just lost too much and will be depending on TWO undersized WRs for the bulk of their passing game.  Vick circus will distract the team a bit too.  I see a big fall off here.

Division winner:  Tough to call, but I pick the Giants.  Dallas and Washington will fight for the final WC spot.

NFC North

Minnesota Vikings – Weaknesses, QB, WR, Young Oline at two positions, and Safety.  Other than that, you have AD, Shianco poised for a big season and a D that will be dominating, improved ST, and a focus on Turnover ratio like never before.  This team will surprise a lot of pundits.

Chicago – Will probably compete with Cutler at QB, but his addition is being way overblown.  He still has nothing to throw to, the Defense is getting old/slow and has been injury prone the past few years.  Forte will be the biggest factor.  He’s one of the better all around RBs in the league.  But I don’t think he will be enough.

Green Bay – Young D, new Scheme, Don’t let the preseason fool you.  They did all their best against vanilla offenses/defenses.  They will improve on last year, but are, like the Bears, a bit overhyped.

Detroilet – I predict they will win more games this year than last year and still compete for the first overall pick in next year’s draft.  The rebuild is in progress, it will be a few years before they can compete.

Division Winner:  Vikes (purple shades? Maybe, but I do see us repeating).

Playoffs:
Vikings and Giants get a bye
Saints and Seattle play WC weekend
Packers and Redskins are wildcards…yes, I said Redskins.

Seattle loses and Saints win on WC weekend
Packers move on, Redskins fade away.

Vikings beat Packers
Saints beat Giants.

Vikings host NFCCG and lose to Saints.

NFC Champs:  New Orleans Saints.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/9/2009 1:02:00 PM)

AFC Predictions for 2009

AFC West

Oakland – Fighting with the Chiefs and Lions for first overall pick in the 2010 draft…again…only they gave that pick away to the Patriots (morons).  This is now the worst run organization in the NFL.  And it wont get better for the black hole until old uncle Al kicks the bucket.

Chiefs – in full rebuilding mode.  Matt Cassel experiment is going to be a big catastrophe if you ask me.  Defense it young…team is going to suck…like Oakland challenging for the first overall pick in next year’s draft.

Broncos – Oh what a mess.  Marshall, Cutler, new coach, Orton looks like crap…they probably would have been better off not firing Shanahan.

San Diego – Should walk all over their own division considering the competition…the only thing that can stop this team from winning the division is itself.  Merriman imploding off field…Norv Turner is the head Coach…Tomlinson isn’t getting any younger.  Team must win now.

Division goes to the Chargers…No other team will make the playoffs.

AFC South

Houston – If Schaub can stay healthy they are poised to make a move.  Stellar defense, one of the best WRs in the game (Andre Johnson), good RB (Slaton), good to great TE (Daniels).  They should be pretty damn good and make their first playoffs as a WC.

Tennessee – Another team that will depend on stellar play from an aging QB.  If Collins goes down, just like the Cardinals, this team is doomed.  The defense will have a fall off after losing Haynseworth.  But health is good and this team will challenge for the division title.

Indianapolis – Peyton Manning makes the team competitive…but I have a feeling down deep in my stomach that this will be a year they miss the playoffs.  The rise of Houston and new coaches etc.  Manning can’t do it all himself and they struggle more than they expect.  Losing Dungy will be HUGE.

Jacksonville – Will anyone go to see the games.  They are actually going to depend on David Garrard and Troy Williamson.  Maurice Jones-Drew will be the only bright spot.

Tennessee wins division, Houston gets WC, Indy just misses playoffs.

AFC East

New England Patriots - With Tom Brady back and Fred Taylor added to the running game…this team should retake the division this year.  The only concern I would have, were I a Patriots fan, is the loss of experience on the defense.  They may need to score 30-35 points a game.

Miami – Will surprise NO ONE this year.  They will show just how much of a fluke they were last year and return to 8-8 record.

New York Jets – New Coach, new attitude, same results.  They will finish the season staring at the Patriot’s ass.  Sanchez will look good and bad, and will eventually crack a little under the NY pressure.  He’s not playing in Baltimore or Atlanta, so don’t expect Flacco/Ryan results.

Buffalo – TO will make it entertaining, but Dick Jauron is on his way out.

Division winner – New England.  No other team makes the playoffs.

AFC North

Slugfest here we come.

Pittsburgh – Will make one hell of a go at repeating as champs.  Defense is still one violent unit.  Awesome rivalry with Baltimore will continue.

Baltimore – Can games between these two teams get more brutal?

Cincinnati and Cleveland have done nothing to show they will not continue to suck.

Division is a toss up – depends on the play of Flacco and Roethlisberger.  One of them wins the division, the other the WC.

AFC Playoffs
WC round
Baltimore defeats Tennessee
San Diego defeats Houston

Division Round
Pittsburgh defeats San Diego
New England defeats Baltimore

AFCCG
Pittsburgh rocks New England’s world.

AFC Champ for the second year in a row: Pittsburgh.

So that puts the Steelers/Saints in the SB.  And I think the Saints upset the heavily favored Steelers and take home the title.

I must be high.

Chris Olson -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/9/2009 3:51:58 PM)

Yes, Great stuff, Scott!

Not buying into New Orleans, though I think they give Atlanta a serious run for the division.

I think Hakeem Nicks will step up for the G-men and it will be between him and Percy for ROY, and Philly will end up WC again.

The Vikes win easily and 2nd place will get WC...

I think it will be close between Seattle and the Cards, but the Cars beat the Hags out.

San Diego wins by default.

Not expecting as much out of Pittsburgh either, but then I never do and they surprise me, but they should still win their division.

Tennessee and Indy will fight for their division and the loser is WC.

I thought New England would cruise to the SB, but maybe not without Seymour.  Good move for the long run, but not for this year.  The Jets will surprise some folks. Ryan is going to be a good coach. I think they get the other WC.

Minny v. Atlanta for NFCG

NE v. SD in AFCG

Minnesota win the SB over NE.

How's that for pulling it our of my @$$...?

Sounds good to me!
But no way Childress beats Bilicheat in a big game.  He'd be outcoached by the coinflip.
