Definitely not liking New England for the SB.  They have no backup QB and their defense is not ready.

Todd M -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/9/2009 4:11:21 PM)

What the heck is NE doing with the QB position?

Taking a big chance.

If Brady does stay healthy it will be Pats vs Vikes.

If not it's going to be Vikes/Chargers.

No way.

Chargers wont be physical enough to get past the Ravens or Steelers in the playoffs.

Chris Olson -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/9/2009 4:15:37 PM)

I think that offense is going to be incredible.

they won't need a back up QB

And somehow BB will get that defense to play well enough for the O to win their games

Brady to Moss will be bigger and better than 2007...the running game will be tough with Maroney and Taylor...

Their run D will be their weakness which we'll be able to exploit to win the SB. [:D]

John Childress -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/9/2009 4:33:42 PM)

They need a backup QB

BRady was already hurt once in the preseason

Chris Olson -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/9/2009 5:37:02 PM)

They like Hoyer...

maybe Belicheck's head has finally grown too big for his britches, getting rid of a legit back up QB, getting rid of Seymour...

I'd feel sorry for Moss, but I would love to see those things bite him in the ass.

Dave Odle -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/9/2009 6:42:02 PM)

I always felt that Maroney was overrated and Kevin Faulk was underrated myself. Maroney just doesn't impress me.

John Childress -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/9/2009 7:19:32 PM)

Maroney was solid his first two years.  His third year he was hurt.

At 24, he is just reaching his physical prime so we will see what he does this year.

Tim Cady -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/9/2009 8:26:59 PM)

I have Vikings/Chargers, because I believe the Chargers will get HFA playing in that division and somebody else will take out the Patriots. Then that Steeler or Baltimore team will head west and lose.

Vikings will host Giants in NFC Championship and revenge 41-0, not by that much, but revenge just the same.

As far as the Patriots go, they are going to live or die with Tom Brady.

After Cassel couldn't get them to the playoffs, they probably figure Hoyan couldn't do worse and if they don't win it all, their draft picks will be higher. Belichick would love to rebuild his defense in next years draft with the first 5 picks of the second round if he could. I believe they have 3 or 4 second rounders next year and I wouldn't be a bit surprized if they end up with 5 or 6 second rounders by next year's draft.

All those second rounders might be a great thing if the league goes uncapped.  Brady is already extended. Sign a bunch of rookies to be your defense for the foreseeable future.

marty -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/9/2009 9:27:42 PM)

Good to see some predictions on here !

I started with NE over Minnesota, but am having my doubts because I haven't seen any deep balls out of Favre.  I fear that without that, they can win plenty of games like they did at Houston, especially late in the year, but eventually teams will come up with good plans to stop the offense (like not worrying about Favre beating them deep).

Should the Titans beat the Steelers tomorrow night, I would then say there's a good chance they win the AFC, unless Baltimore proves too strong.

I think Atnalta will surprise and NOT be as good as most expect them to be.  I think they'll have injuries and take a step backwards.

I think the Packers will probably roll early, while Minnesota and Chicago come on late in the year.  I do NOT think the Vikes will win in Lambau.

I think Philly offense will improve, might not be until about mid-season, when you MIGHT see Vick take over.  I think Philly will do lots scoring, but the defense without its' best player (Dawkins) and its' awesome DC will take a step backwards.  So IF they make the playoffs, they'll probably go down to a more physical team like Minnesota or GB or Dallas.

I think Dallas might actually surprise and come together as a team with many of the cancers gone.  I think their defense will play well and they will probably take the division.  I think Romo will be clutch up to a point, which could mean a SB loss, but I think they are likely to come up short before that.

A REALLY tough game for the Vikes to win early on COULD be the 3rd game against SF.  Should the Vikes take Frisco lightly and Favre and the Vikes looking ahead to GB, they could come out flat and lose that game.  I could EASILY see that happening.

I think the Cleveland game might be tougher than imagined.  I could see Cleveland getting plenty of calls if all the money is on Minnesota, and just a few big plays from Cribbs, Braylon Edwards or the Cleveland 2ndary could have Minnesota on its' heals.  BUT, if it's a close game at the end, MINNESOTA might get the calls to help set up the game against GB (BOTH games) as being a good matchup(s)

marty -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/9/2009 9:33:13 PM)

I hope the Vikes get Baltimore or SD, because then they have a chance, whereas I think NE would mop up on the Vikes.  The Vikes probably can't compete with them in a shootout, just like I don't think the Vikes could compete with a healthy NOs team in a shootout (unless the Vikes get the kind of calls like they got last time they played NE).

I can now see the Vikes winning the division, but I see 11 wins with GB and 10 for Minnesota as probably a little more likely.  I also think Chicago will be surging at the end to make it interesting.  I think Chicago is in trouble on Sunday, and will probably be in for a lopsided loss.  IF Chicago wins that game, then I think it there is a VERY good chance Chicago wins the division, and GB doesn't make the playoffs.

I assume you are referring to Matt Cassell as the "legit backup QB."  In which case I will remind you that they would have had to pay him something like $14Mil to be the backup.  Which pretty much takes the "legit backup" part out of the equation.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/9/2009 9:41:16 PM)

Come on.  Even when the playoffs began last year, how many people predicted that the Cardinals would play in the Super Bowl?  Making predictions about who wins in the playoffs is pointless, especially at this point of the season.

mikelado -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/9/2009 10:30:15 PM)

My prediction for this year is a great season for our beloved vikes! I haven't been this excited for a season since '98! I love our D, it will be DOMINANT! (Yes, that means as good as Pittsburgh & Baltimores). Our offense will be better than either of theirs from last year though. Makes for a Super Bowl quality team in my view. Will we go 15-1 like '98? Highly doubtful, but 12-4, 13-3 is not out of the question. Plus, this team is built to win playoff games!

1st game prediction: Vikes 34 Brownies 3

sorry...I meant not getting a legit back up, instead of getting rid of....

i think BB believes what the media talking heads say that he must know something or that he can win with anyone...this time it just might reveal he is mortal.

Dana Turner -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/10/2009 3:55:43 AM)

Vikes take this first game 27-10.

Looking at the schedule and not factoring in possible injuries, I have the vikings being able to muster up a 12-4 season. I'm not big on predicting these kinds of things, but it's fun to get in on it at the beginning just to see how close you are in the end. From here on out, it's just one game at a time. I like that we are starting on the road, in fact, two games to start the season, on the road. It gives the team a chance to get that us against the world, band of brothers mentality going early. It can be very important to the chemistry of the locker room.

Ricky J -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/10/2009 6:58:06 AM)

Vikes 19-0. No champagne for the Miami crowd.

marty -> RE: Who will win the NFC North (9/10/2009 7:11:45 AM)

Is NE going to get out the champagne when the next 18-0 team ALSO loses in the SB ???

I don't think the Vikes will win more than 11 games, and I think blowouts might be rare, unless Favre connects on some deep balls early in the year.  I think the game in Cleveland will be VERY difficult, the Vikes winning by a FG.  Take Cleveland and the points.

Cleveland usually played good defense at home last year, they can create turnovers with their 2ndary, and the Vikes now have a QB that might get them some.  Rogers is an animal, and guys like Cribbs, Harrison (might not play) and Edwards are playmakers.  I'm glad they don't have Evil at TE anymore.

I agree, I think it will be close due to being the first game of the season and there will be some rust to get rid of.
