David - Toby isn't going to get those yards after contact the AD does. And GB would put more men into coverage, limiting our passing game, because Toby Gerhart is not going to beat teams.

The game plan with Toby would rely more on Ponder, more on converting third and short, the OL continuing to create holes only more of them and bigger holes, a strong defensive effort, great special teams, etc.

BTW, since Peterson went down in Washington, my point is already proven.

The Vikings can win with Toby if AP goes down. History proves it.

Next

History also proves that we are 1-5 when Gerhart is our primary ball carrier.

I didn't say they couldn't lose.

J Jeffreys -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/3/2013 3:45:33 PM)

David, That's right! No Ponder. Doesn't exactly help my point.

Moot. Vikings have AD. Vikings just beat GB. Vikings must pound them into submission

Guest -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/3/2013 4:01:53 PM)

Can we beat GB Saturday? Sure.
Will we beat GB Saturday? Perhaps.
Should we beat GB Saturday, on the road, in 20 degrees against a seasoned playoff opponent? Probably not.

GB 19 MIN 11.

However ... if we win this one ... @ ATL in a dome bodes well for us.

We can beat a 5 win team in a meaningless late season game if AD and Ponder both go down.

That sounds like it would be a fun game to watch !

So you're saying we could win if Adrian Peterson goes down, and if Toby goes down, and if Ponder goes down, and if Frazier gets sick and can't be there, and if Kalil goes down.

Good discussion!

As long as you don't think about missing out on RG3 (or a boatload of draft picks)....

Thomas O. Eliason -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/3/2013 4:53:37 PM)

Maybe you guys will quit bitching about that when we win the Super Bowl ?

Dare I dream ?

Thomas O. Eliason -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/3/2013 5:32:04 PM)

Pretty simple equation, really: if you don't want to win, don't play Joe Webb !

J Jeffreys -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/3/2013 5:48:10 PM)

Prescott - So you're saying we could win if Adrian Peterson goes down, and if Toby goes down, and if Ponder goes down, and if Frazier gets sick and can't be there, and if Kalil goes down.

If Kalil goes down, it's over. The OL consistency is main factor that gives me confidence in the offense being able to win with Toby. The OL has been healthy all year. That's a big reason for 10-6 and 2097.

J Jeffreys -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/3/2013 6:45:55 PM)

If memory serves, most Wild Card weekends and divisional round weekends include 1 upset. Rarely 2. Rarerly 0. Go Texans!

Prescott -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/3/2013 7:19:56 PM)

So for whatever reason, it struck you that if Adrian Peterson gets hurt, we can win with Toby, but if Schwartz or Berger has to play, we have no chance to win? Pretty strange thought process, but whatever, it's a prediction thread.

Depends if you're talking the vegas line or the home team. But last year every home team won in the first round. Prior to that, at least 2 road team (sometimes 3) had won for 4 years in a row.

JT2 -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/3/2013 7:21:45 PM)

I like all the dogs (ATS) this weekend, and two of them to win straight up.

Guest -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/3/2013 7:41:18 PM)

Which 2?

Both NFC dogs

20 degrees hurts GB more than it hurts us. The Pukers have lost their last 2 home playoff games, and 4 of their last 6.

Yup.

I'm glad it's there.

Some teams could possibly take advantage of it but we're just not a road/weather/grass team.
Rodgers will still be able to throw in the cold.
If I were betting on the game I would take GB straight up.
ATS it's a harder call.

Will he? Will his receivers catch the balls as if it was 60 degrees out?

Guest -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/3/2013 7:56:56 PM)

I will say this though ... if #69 can have a GAME ... I wouldn't be shocked at a win for us.
A couple/three sacks and lots of pressures ... fumble ... something.
I think the game rests on the D this week .. not AD.

Don't know. That's why they play the games.

JT2 -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/3/2013 8:01:39 PM)

I don't know that either team has any significant advantage in terms of playing in cold weather.

Ponder has never played in anything but almost perfect conditions. But if it's just cold (not windy or snow) that shouldn't bother him.

The WR's may drop a few more balls, that probably doesn't favor us.

Peterson doesn't seem to have any problem with the long grass, but it sure seems to slow down some of our pass rushers. Mild winter so far, field should be in good shape.

Will ours?

MarkWren -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/3/2013 8:16:08 PM)

Put me down in the "if AD goes down, we can still win with Toby" camp. Bigtime. Here's why:

Toby is not going to juke and jive his way into losses. Ever. He's good for 3-4 yards, reliably, and sometimes more. But he's fast enough to run off tackle, which is what will be needed against their fatties in the middle. He's also a better receiver and a better blocker than Peterson. Much better.

We can "thunder & lightning" them better with a bruising Gerhardt and a scatback like Wright, also. If AD can pound 'em for a couple of quarters before going down, I can see us eating the clock with Toby & Jarius, plus a little Ponder of course, on the ground. The occasional first down flip to Jenkins or Rudolph could be enough to do 'em in here in Cheeseland.

I'd prefer a slow track on Saturday night. We are by far the more physical team, especially if Winfield can go. The uglier the weather, the tougher it'll be on the home crowd and the passing game of GB. We've got a shot, and if AD goes down for any reason, I'm still expecting good things.

It's much less key to our offense.
