I don't know how this started ... it's crazy.
Still ... Gerhardt averages 4.3 rushing 8.0 receiving.
That's average ... i wouldn't say "not good".

This season, 3.4 rushing and 7.8 receiving.

League average per carry is down a little this year, but 3.4 is way below average.

When AD is running for 2000 you're gonna have a little rust if you're Toby.
His "career" averages are on par for a part time back.
For some full time backs too.

But we use him as our 3rd down back and contrary to popular opinion (in here) he really doesn't possess any of the skill set you look for in a 3rd down back.

I wouldn't be at all upset if we looked to upgrade our RB depth in the draft. Maybe actually find a 3rd down back.

A Sproles-type or LaMichael James even.

How about Barner?

Steve Lentz -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/3/2013 10:44:30 PM)

Pick up Burkhead from Nebraska in the middle rounds.

Burkhead kind of reminds me of Sproles a little. Not as quick, but tough as hell.

Barner doesn't have the best hands, but yes, these two guys are the kind of RB's that could become good 3rd down backs.

Did you run out of ink? I don't know what that means, in relation to the post you responded to.

Flu invading Packer locker room. Cool!

Just really needs to circulate around #12's locker.

It will affect our passing game more than theirs.
Ponder is a Texas kid who played in FL and has about 1 cold weather game in his repertoire. If that.
Rodgers will be better prepared for it.
Which is why we have to pressure him.
Allen has to have a big game.
He could propel us to ATL.

Packers have lost their last 2 home playoff games. Because they are a passing team. Their Superbowl run in 2010, all warm weather road games.

They still had to go to Philly and Chicago in January not exactly warm weather.

True they're passing game has been somewhat stymied in cold weather. The key will be getting pressure, something we've struggled with on grass. Rodgers was hurting us with quick throws in the 2nd half and it is much more difficult to get those throws off in the cold.

J Jeffreys -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/4/2013 7:35:57 PM)

Bleacher Report listed 12 keys for a Viking victory. Most are pretty obvious. Turnovers, AP runs wild. One of the keys was get a big game form an unexpected player. I like that and will throw out one from each phase. Purely guesses.

Jerome Simpson has a big game. A BIG game. He played in Cincy. He knows cold as well as anyone. He's healthy. He's ready to explode.

Everson Griffen dominates again. He's not unexpected after last week, but he's not Jared Allen either, He will make a big play.

Chris Kluwe has his best game as a pro in a game where field position in huge, He puts the ball in corners and forces fair catches.

MarkWren -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/4/2013 7:55:00 PM)

Toby, like any RB, needs his share of carries to get in the flow. I've got full confidence in him to hit HIS stride (not AD's, not anyone elses) if called upon. Some of you are forgetting the physical pounding we gave the Niners. The Bears. The Texans. With Winfield back (even partially), we've got a real shot at pounding this GB team in their place. Hell, we were doing it quite well there last game until we turned it over at QB.

Will there be a dropoff if Toby plays a lot? Of course. But it won't ALL be deficit with him in the lineup. He can do some things Peterson can't/won't, and that's a fact. We can win with him. We can pound GB into a dogfight, maybe even a loss if Blair stays hot. I'm not predicting anything. This is a gravy run, for me. Anything from here on out is a bonus, helping set us up for several good years to come.

is not enough to draw any conclusions about. If he breaks a 30 yard run, suddenly he's averaging 4 yards a crack.

Thomas O. Eliason -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/5/2013 2:56:43 AM)

Threeby had a 60+ yarder against the Redskins.

Do I dare ask Marty how to bet the "teaser" @ 9 with huge vig?

quote:

Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers (-8, o/u 46)

8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST

The LVH opened the Packers -7.5 but every other book in Vegas and most offshore books went with 8. As of Monday morning, the LVH was holding the line at 7.5 but the consensus was clearly 8 though some books employing the strategy of discouraging teaser play have moved it to 9 with huge vig to take the dog at that price. With very few exceptions, the over/under is looking solid at 46.

Eric K -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/5/2013 11:45:50 AM)

31-28 Packers.  Rogers arm is too much for our secondary.

Vikes can win this game, but in the end the Packers quick strike ability and the nice weather proves to be too much.

Eric K -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/5/2013 11:55:03 AM)

Crosby is the X-Factor.

I'm hoping he balls up in the fetal position thinking about kicking today.

SoMnFan -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/5/2013 11:56:55 AM)

Yep, Crosby appears as frageeeelaaaa as a naked leg lamp.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/5/2013 4:22:02 PM)

Still sticking with my original prediction if Webb starts:

Vikes 27 Pack 41

My three predictions for this year;
1) Toby G gets a lot of work early as AD is brought in. However a majority of Viking fans realize that the offense actually runs better with Toby than Adrian becasue of his versatility and scream for him to be traded.

2) The Viking team is improved, we win the ones we are supposed to, but can hang with the big boys and finish 8-8. Many fans still want Frazier fired becasue the team is boring.

3) Russell Wilson has the best rookie year in the League but Luck edges his out. Mostly because the media only learns late in the year that Seattle exists.

I couldn't have been further off on #1

Was fairly close on #2

Hit #3 pretty good.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/8/2013 11:14:25 PM)

With Webb starting I kept it Packers wing by 14, and I was right on the money on that, just had the score a wee bit high. And I had the Vikes winning week 17, just wish I had been WRONG on the playoff victor.
