Shouldn't a game vs an SEC team be on TV? [sm=scratch.gif]

You'd think. At least its streaming on ESPN3.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (11/22/2016 7:56:40 PM)

Solid 1st half. 17 point lead even with Coffee scoring 0 points.

Lynch picking up where he left off last game: 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 steal.

Springs with 11 off the bench (3/4 from deep).

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (11/22/2016 9:05:05 PM)

Coffee with 19 in the 2nd half of the win. Put the team on his back with 10(?) straight points to foil the comeback.

Seems like

A couple more Ath-e-letes this year

guys with a winner's mentality(Coffey comes to mind)
and better people.

All that thuggery last year was a drain.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (11/23/2016 8:32:37 AM)

To bad Devonte Fitzgerald tore his ACL this year....probably not quite enough depth w/o him.

Aha. BTN2Go....

Corleone -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (11/25/2016 7:07:47 PM)

Well, never mind...guess you gotta pay extra for that [X(]

Pay far too much already for DirectTV to have channels like FSN and BTN, now they want to gouge you further by pulling this BS. It's about enough to make me want pull the plug and give up on these loser teams we put up with.

It is early. But one thing for sure. As I said earlier in this thread, this team bears little resemblance to last year's. They've got some talent and they play as a cohesive unit.

How that will equate to wins and losses is anyone's guess. But as it sits right now the Gophers even though they haven't had a real tough schedule are the top rated RPI team in the Big Ten. And that does factor in strength of schedule. I'll take that as a good start.

Maybe a down year in the Big Ten too. So who knows?

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/4/2016 8:25:49 AM)

Nice bounceback win down in Sioux Falls over Vandy.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/12/2016 9:04:34 AM)

10-1 after win over Northern Illinois yesterday....

Haven't watched a single minute yet.

Richie's team has to win in the B10.

They have good size in Lynch/Curry/Konate and Murphy is pretty good at PF....McBrayer/Coffey/Springs at the Wings are good and Mason is a good PG....they should make the dance this year. If Fitzgerald hadn't hurt his knee they would be pretty dang good and very good overall height.

Night and Day from last year.

drew -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/12/2016 12:25:13 PM)

I know they'll win more than 2 games in the B1G this year. Not as confident we'll make the Dance. Shooting/scoring will become a problem in league play. But much improved and fun to watch now.

They will be 12-1 after nonconference....probably 10-8, 11-7 in conference if they stay healthy. They have beaten Arkansas (32) , Vandy (88), UT Arlington (27), and Ill State (81). Arkansas St. is ranked 32 in the RPI and we face them Friday. Our one loss is to FSU which is ranked 22. Pretty strong SOS on preseason opponents actually.

You may laugh but current RPI has us at 8.

That's a cool stat that we're currently 8 in the RPI. If we can go 9-9 in the league this year, I'd be very happy. To go from 2 wins to .500 the next year would be fantastic. I'm just not totally convinced we're there yet.

Amir was the big get. He makes things go.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/13/2016 9:20:25 AM)

It's already clear they're much better than last year. This wasn't a case of waltzing through cupcake non-conference teams. Many of them were legitimate competition. Sure not elite maybe, but when you go 10-1 against even decent competition you are doing something right. A bad team would find a way to lose some of those. Last year's team would be 6-5 at best at this point against this schedule.

No we still don't know how they will fare in Big 10, but another reason to be optimistic is, it could be a down year for the Big 10. Only three currently in the AP top 25 and none higher than 9 (Indiana). It's up for grabs.

Actually it is a few things:

1) Their overall height is better
2) Springs is a good bench shooter/scorer & Coffey is the scoring wing they missed last year
3) Better defense inside/out with Lynch/Curry/Coffey
4) Better offense inside Lynch/Curry
5) Better Rebounding with Lynch/Curry/Coffey & Konate as 3rd Center off of bench
6) They are way more physical with Lynch/Curry/Konate and moving Murphy to PF (he had to play center at times last year at 6'7")
7) Improvement of McBrayer, Murphy, Konate, and Mason from last year--being pushed by the new guys in practice hasn't hurt

If Fitzgerald hadn't tore his knee this was a top 10 team. I don't think they have the depth to be a top 10 but I think they will be a top 25 team that makes the tourney.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/13/2016 4:23:50 PM)

I'm sorry. I just refuse to proclaim top 10 or top 25 or top 64 until the Gophers actually finish a season there. I've seen to many prolonged periods of underachievement and disappointment to feel otherwise. I am at the show me stage.
