BREAKING: #Gophers basketball center Reggie Lynch suspended, barred from campus until 2020 after ruling by U's Sexual Misconduct Committee found him 'responsible' for sexual assault claim. He can appeal. http://strib.mn/2CHJrEE

There
Goes
The
Season

MINNEAPOLIS — University of Minnesota center Reggie Lynch has been found responsible for violating the school's sexual misconduct policy in the spring of 2016 and has been suspended from school and the team until August 2020, according to a copy of findings by the U's Office for Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action.
Lynch, 23, can appeal the decision.

It was the second EOAA investigation into an alleged sexual assault by Lynch, a senior from Edina who transferred to Minnesota after two seasons at Illinois State. He was arrested on suspicion of raping a 19-year-old woman in a campus apartment building on campus May 8, 2016, but wasn't charged and was cleared by a school investigation.
In that case, the EOAA investigation found it more likely than not that Lynch reasonably believed the sex was consensual.
After his arrest, Lynch was suspended from the team and Minneapolis police investigated the case. The Hennepin County Attorney chose not to charge him, and Lynch was reinstated after the EOAA investigation.
This time, Lynch has been found to have violated the U's rules on sexual misconduct in a separate incident in spring of 2016. The vicitim was a 20-year-old student attending a separate university. He was not suspended during the most recent investigation because there was no police investigation.
According to a copy of the report obtained by the Pioneer Press, effective Jan. 9, Lynch's "university studentship will be suspended with a disciplinary hold placed on his record preventing him from registering at the school. That may be re-established no earlier than Aug. 1, 2020.
He also is banned from campus, including "all university events."
An athletics department spokesman could not be reached late Thursday.

Oh boy....

Bill Jandro -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/5/2018 8:38:46 AM)

How or why does this happen every time this program gets a head of steam?

This University really needs to institute a better plan schooling incoming athletes on what the word no means.

TJSweens -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/5/2018 9:19:03 AM)

It never ends. This damn athletic department is just cursed. They need to bring in a high ranking cleric from every faith and perform a mass exorcism on the athletic facilities.

Ye olde black cloud just never leaves for long

David Levine -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/5/2018 11:56:59 AM)

Lynch suspended from competition, effectively immediately, while the appeals process plays out. He can still practice with the team, etc., but cannot play in games.

That's the proper way to handle it.

Bill Jandro -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2018 11:26:34 AM)

“When you take Reggie Lynch off the table, it completely changes the dynamic of this team [and] the rotation. Now they’re competing to be in the NCAA tournament. But they’re going to have to do it by playing small ball.”

Will Pitino attempt to play his 6-foot-7, 250-pound All-America candidate Jordan Murphy at center to replace the 6-10, 260-pound Lynch? The Gophers listed their projected starter for Saturday as 6-11 senior Bakary Konate, but he’s only averaging nine minutes a game this season.

Lynch, a starter the past two seasons after transferring from Illinois State, was having a career year in scoring (10.1), rebounds (8.0), blocks (4.1) and minutes (26.4) this season.

Bill Jandro -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2018 11:29:21 AM)

“Depth has always been an issue,” Crispin said about Minnesota. “You’re going to have to be a guard-based team. You’ll have to play faster. I could see Jordan Murphy playing the five more often than not. Just trying to pick up the tempo a bit. That’s about all they can do at this point.”

Murphy is also not just Minnesota’s best player, but he is arguably the midseason Big Ten player of the year. The San Antonio native is second in the league in scoring (19.0) and first in rebounding (12.9), which ranks second in the nation. Murphy’s also going for his Division I-leading 17th straight double-double Saturday, which would tie for the longest streak since Tim Duncan in 1996-97.

Agree....surprised that more accusations don't happen or get reported.
Too easy for the woman to state an accusation, and then it is completely
up to the individual/school/courts to determine validity....

Seems "The U’s Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action" must be made up of a bunch of bitter old women.

I can certainly respect and see the need to stand up for women being assaulted.

But there cannot be much evidence other than a "he said, she said". plus, it wouldn't be the first time I woman falsely shouted rape.

Look what's happening in our government lately!!
One after the other is accusing some one/somewhere.
Government officials are losing jobs.

I stay as far away from politics as I can. They're all crooks imo.

YES!

TJSweens -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2018 1:38:49 PM)

According to a Pioneer Press article, Lynch's history of sexual misconduct is one of the worst kept secrets out there. It goes way back to high school. Apparently girls all over Edina and Bloomington were aware of it and warned each other routinely to stay away from him at parties. A U rape survivor warned Coyle a year ago that there was a pattern of sexual misconduct surrounding Lynch and Coyle blew her off. The "no red flags" comment appears to be a big, steaming pile of horseshit.

Mr. Ed -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2018 2:52:20 PM)

IF they ignored all that, then it's same ol' stuff, another verse for the U of M.

Another black eye. Good grief. Richie better watch out.

Coffey is missing today's game. Going to be fugly.

twinsfan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2018 4:11:30 PM)

Do you guys think Murphy will be moved to the 5? Or will they keep everyone's position the same as before? Will be interesting to watch. Game starts in 5 minutes.

twinsfan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2018 4:21:50 PM)

I didn't realize Coffey has a shoulder injury. Shoulder injuries can take a long time to heal. In fact, many times they never heal. Yikes.

twinsfan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2018 4:37:31 PM)

We've been playing a traditional center game so far. #41 and #21 taking turns. Neither very good. Although #41 gets hacked every time he touches the ball, and no foul call is made.

twinsfan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2018 4:44:02 PM)

Foul trouble for Murphy. This is gonna be tough.

twinsfan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2018 4:56:03 PM)

McBrayer is often our "best" player on the floor. That's not a good sign. Indiana just lets him keep chucking up 3's. Who else is gonna shoot the ball if Mason and Murphy are on the bench?

twinsfan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2018 5:02:22 PM)

Gophers #21 has the WORST HANDS I have ever seen on a basketball court. Man, catch the ball!

twinsfan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2018 5:04:41 PM)

What a hilarious half of basketball.

twinsfan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2018 5:58:14 PM)

Now we're hitting some shots. Murphy only 7 rebounds with under 5 minutes left.

twinsfan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2018 6:15:07 PM)

Really bad loss. Let them hang around and then we made bad decisions down the stretch.

Only 3 guys capable of scoring...and they all make really bad decisions. The other guys are just "there." They do nothing.

twinsfan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2018 6:19:53 PM)

That gameplan did not work. I think we need to go small with Washington instead of a C.
