So Oturu finally becomes a beast, and now the talk is moving on to the NBA
Sigh

Biggest problem with basketball these days

William follows much closer than I do

Says the product is not that good in college this year

Hurry up and leave

Ready or not

How’s that working out for Coffey??

Has logged 2.5 minutes in the NBA

And every year there’s more wanna be’s

Coffey is costing himself a lot of money....would have been a first round pick...millions....now he gets 300k...

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/13/2020 9:33:09 AM)

Coffey would not have been a first round pick. No way in hell. The reason there is steam about Oturu is that he is way better than Coffey. He is already being projected as a lottery pick. Some scouting reports have him at #9.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/13/2020 9:51:43 AM)

Was anyone else watching when Oturu went down with an apparent injury yesterday? That was scary. The way it was looking, you had to assume he'd be done for the season.

Then, amazingly, he was back on the court several minutes later. Very strange.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/13/2020 9:58:46 AM)

That got him high praise from Juwan Howard after the game. He was pretty damn impressed with Oturu.

He would've had to have a ridiculous senior season to even be considered in the 1st.

He doesn't do anything well enough and would already be 23 at next year's draft.

He's kind of stuck in purgatory right now. He's making a lot more money on the days he's up with the Clippers, but he really needs to be playing every day in the G League.

Never liked the one and done rule.

I think it hurts both NCAA and NBA

I thought Coffey could make his professional niche by continuing to improve his guard skills and be a ‘big guard’, maybe even a big point guard. That could be desirable in the NBA. But he didn’t really do that last year. He didn’t really distinguish himself in any way really. And there’s no indication he would have this year. So he’s just another dime a dozen wing.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/15/2020 8:04:25 PM)

What’s going on in the Big 10 this year. It’s a muddle and the Gophers are in the thick of it. And don’t look now but teams like Rutgers are pretty decent. They’re taking apart Indiana right now.

And Penn State is pretty decent too, by the way...queue ominous music.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/16/2020 9:03:21 AM)

If little Richard remains coach

Can only hope somehow Oturu’s success will get a few instate stars to stay home

Doubtful as long as top 20 eludes the U

Carr/Oturo becoming quite a combo......if his system looks guard friendly he might have a shot too.

Most recent ESPN Bracket Projections has Minnesota on the outside looking in. A little surprising to me with the recent beat down of Michigan.

Our big win is OSU and they aren't as good as once thought.

But then we beat them on the road with a Carr last second three....

Dropping them to 2-6 in the Big 10...

The Purdue loss at Purdue is hurting a bit....that is another road game we should have won.

Remarkable that OSU is in currently....pretty much need them to get hot after beating them twice.---that will help our ranking.

I think OSU will turn it around. Our sweep of OSU will be what ultimately puts us over the hump and gets us into the tourney.

I'm no bball savant but this team is terrible at shooting the ball [>:]

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/27/2020 8:07:37 AM)

To play for Izzo … you apparently HAVE to look like you are 42, and out of the NBA a year or two.
I've never seen a program populated with so many grandpa-lookin characters.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/30/2020 7:57:47 PM)

Haha. Hurt just made an easy layup for what... his third basket of the year? And he did the angry inspirational hand clapping YEAH! COME ON! LETS GO! thing.

Or as I call it, the Wally.

I saw Oturo mocked at #8 in the draft. I think it was NBAdraft.net.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/5/2020 10:11:22 PM)

Always nice to spank the Badgers.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/6/2020 6:35:44 AM)

ABSOLUTELY! I hate UW athletics far worse than the Packers.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/6/2020 7:44:22 AM)

Nice to have some wings that can shoot and a PG that can take over a game....too bad Carr and Willis couldn't play last year. NCAA picks and chooses their transfers.
