David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (9/23/2022 4:23:50 PM)

Tony Liebert@TonyLiebert
#Gophers officially miss out on 2023's top 3 MN players:

- Totino Grace, G Taison Chatman (Ohio State)
- Holy Angles, F Boden Kapke (Butler)
- Lakeville North, F Nolan Winter (Wisconsin)

Tony Liebert@TonyLiebert
#Gophers missing on all 3 is not great, but with current roster construction, they will likely only have one open scholarship next season.

4⭐️ top-30 7-foot-1 center Dennis Evans seems to be their guy. If they get him, still a successful recruiting cycle IMO.

like that johnson talked about changing the narrative and thinking like winners. easy to say but definitely needed saying. finished above .500 in Big10 just once since 2010 and that was when Pitino was the big10 coach of the year.

It's down to Gophers or TCU for Dennis Evans. Decision coming next Monday.

Johnson did very well with the hand dealt to him last year and this year....Fox ACL, Ihnen ACL.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (10/18/2022 8:10:22 AM)

27th ranked player. 4 or 5 star depending on the service.

Nice Get.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (10/19/2022 1:22:35 PM)

Johnson does seem to have an aptitude for recruiting. And that's most of the battle in college basketball.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (11/14/2022 8:02:58 PM)

We suck. DePaul absolutely manhandled us. I don't see us winning a single B1G game.

Do you know who Jamison Battle is?

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (11/18/2022 12:59:15 PM)

Gophers looked great last night vs Central Michigan. We might go undefeated in the B1G if Battle comes back!

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (11/23/2022 9:44:47 PM)

Are the Gophers gonna run an offense, or no? Lots of standing around.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (11/24/2022 11:51:47 AM)

There is some talent here, these guys all have pedigrees, but at the moment this is probably the youngest, rawest most unpolished Gophers team I’ve seen. If they can get to semi-organized by season’s end I have great hopes for next year when even more big time talent arrives. If they remain stagnant and this is still the product at season’s end…that’s rough.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/9/2022 1:08:24 PM)

This is the absolute worst Gophers basketball team I've seen in my lifetime. And I've been watching since 1984. We were down by 25-30 points almost the entire game last night. Closed it to 15 at the end. What a disaster.

New Mexico is 8-0 this season.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/9/2022 3:07:44 PM)

I used to watch faithfully but have little interest in them currently.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/27/2022 9:36:46 AM)

New Mexico is 12-0.

6 of their top 8 are sophomores or Freshman. It is a rebuild which Pitino help to create.

Pitino also created one of the best teams in the country....in New Mexico. Jamal Mashburn Jr followed Pitino to New Mexico and he's developed into a great player.

I think Ben has recruited some good talent...we will see.
Pitino left behind a mess here.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/3/2023 9:04:27 PM)

This team is just embarrassing. Wisconsin is sucking tonight, and we still have no chance.

So....Pitino left behind a mess....but he went to a black hole program in New Mexico and is 14-0????? Something doesn't add up with your comment.

Something doesn't add up? Pitino's best year at MN was his 1st. (Someone else's recruits and JCs he picked up).

Yeah he left a mess....outside of Marcus Carr and Mashburn who wasn't great his first year who was dominate Big Ten player?

If you look at his 2nd best season; he lucked into getting Jordan Murphy who he wasn't sure he wanted.

Pitino loves short, quick guards....doesn't work in the Big Ten.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/4/2023 1:14:00 PM)

The ironic thing is that little Ricky recruited pretty well across the country while he was here. It just never translated to wins. Lousy coach. That he is 14-1 coaching in the Mountain West conference against powerhouses like Air Force Academy and Boise State isn't all that impressive.

Out of his two best seasons only one had a winning Big Ten record. Even when he had the other team out matched he couldn't win.

Ben basically had to start over. The team last year was so well coached for having maybe 3 guys that belonged on a big ten floor. His two best players out with ACL tears.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/12/2023 7:37:33 PM)

Big win for the Gophs. Might be the only one we get.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/12/2023 8:30:44 PM)

Very interesting broadcast tonight. FS1 did ‘all access’. Meaning both coaches were mic’d up and on camera and on screen in side boxes all night. They even went commercial free so you could hear the timeouts. I thought Johnson came off very well.

As for the game itself, that’s 3 close competitive Big 10 games in a row and finally got a W. They played well, until the end, blowing a 9 point lead down the stretch, allowing OSU to tie, and only got bailed out on a phantom foul call at the end.

As I said, I generally liked Johnson’s passion, knowledge and leadership on display. Only knock is, with an opportunity to ice the game with free throws we ended up with a 42% free thrower at the line. How does that happen?

Come on, man. We passed the ball to him.
