Still a game but no matter what, Kill and his staff are getting us there.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (9/22/2012 10:07:41 PM)

Damn.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (9/22/2012 10:09:54 PM)

Whew. Game.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (9/22/2012 10:12:15 PM)

3 sacks, 4 turnovers, gave up 10 points.

Wow.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (9/22/2012 10:16:48 PM)

Great-

1. Win
2. D was in pretty incredible
3. Shortell's long passes (sorry, can't say long balls. I work in a place where that will get spatter cast in email. Force of habit).

Good-

1. Play calling was pretty solid all day.
2. ST coverage

Bad -

1. Shortell's mid range passes. He was missing some throws that would extend drives. He didn't miss by much, but it was enough to end drives. Gotta clean that up.
2. Dumb penalties on D that kept drives alive.

Ugly -

1. FG kicking

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (9/22/2012 10:24:36 PM)

Syracuse put up 29 on USC, 41 on Northwestern.

They had 3 against us until they scored with 1 minutes left.

Pete M. -> RE: Gopher Football (9/22/2012 11:30:28 PM)

Was at the game tonight. Fun crowd, student section had a ton of energy. Echo the thoughts on here. And I like Kirkwood. Not a huge big-play threat and boy flashy, but runs hard and relishes contact. Maybe KJ Maye can be his Lightning counterpart.

Also, Wilhite is a beast.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (9/23/2012 6:14:35 AM)

Run blocking has to improve. Shortell had some throws that need to be compelted. Shot themselves in the foot. Bend/not break D at times, esp at the end. Didn't like that ease of scoring.

The D is much improved, and love the pass rush.

More fun to watch than in a long time. Unsure how long it'll last but a fun ride Saturday.

Not only Wilhite, the whole defensive line. Haggeman could move to next level with Wilhite. When was last time we could mention more then one

Pete M. -> RE: Gopher Football (9/23/2012 2:03:50 PM)

One thing that d-line and LBs have to improve on is shedding blocks in the run game. Rallis just ist a true MLB. Beal was better at sticking his nose in. And Hageman, though a beast at times, really struggles shedding blocks when moving laterally. We could have real trouble stopping the run in the B1G play.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (9/23/2012 3:27:52 PM)

Good stuff all
Great crowd
Fun night
Terrible short passing game
Great touch on long passes
Have to score more and move chains better, or we will not win the tough games
Fun game tho
Loved how physical we were on D
Evn when they caught the ball, we were right there.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Football (9/24/2012 9:10:32 AM)

Was out of town and had to miss the game, friends used my tickets. But sounds like the defense continues to progress. That can take you a long way, can cover up for a lot of mistakes if your defense is getting after it.

Cannot wait for the Big Ten season to get going. It's been a while since I felt that way at this point in the season. Usually I am bracing for the pain about now.

Iowa has been unimpressive so far. Ripe for a stomping. The pig stays at home.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (9/24/2012 9:17:40 AM)

Im kinda feeling the opposite Karl
Loved Iowas loss Saturday
But it now insures that we will be walking into a hornets nest.
Bad timing, but might as well get used to it.
If we have improved, we should handle them.
Good to hear Syracuse felt the crowd, according to their post game comments.
Let's keep this mo rolling.

They didn't need that loss to get mad, we beat them last 2 years

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (9/24/2012 1:22:46 PM)

I'm sure they didn't.
It'll add to what we'll need to overcome down there.
Good test.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (9/24/2012 1:26:29 PM)

Seems weird. We are only 2 wins away from a bowl. We can get those!

This is what concerns me also, Fargo. I thought Iowa had better talent than us the last 2 years. They had 6 guys on each of those teams get drafted compared to our 0. But this year I think the talent level is pretty close. Can we beat them? For sure. Should we beat them? Perhaps. But will we? Parity can be a wierd thing. If we do win, we should be "receiving votes" in the AP.

Looking ahead, If we beat Iowa we are 5-0 heading into a bye week. Northwestern is currently 4-0 with Indiana & Penn State next. Two very winnable games for them. It could be a big showdown...undefeated Northwestern at undefeated Minnesota. Ummm....thats looking ahead [:-]

I think the hornet's nest is irrelevant. Iowa is just a bad football team. Probably no better than Western Michigan or Syracuse at best.

That's how I feel too. I don't think Iowa is any better than the competition we've been playing.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (9/25/2012 2:21:09 PM)

Hope you're right
Emotion plays a part
That's a pretty embarrassed Iowa team right now
Maybe they don't have the talent to do a thing about it.
I hope not either. We will see.
This Gopher team has a HUGE opp In front of it .... As was mentioned, COULD be siting pretty in a couple weeks.
One step at a time tho.

JT2 -> RE: Gopher Football (9/27/2012 1:27:42 PM)

Iowa -7.

I thought it might have been a bit lower.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (9/27/2012 3:03:51 PM)

Found that interesting too
Experts see it more like I do
Circumstances and history and many other things will make that a damn tough game.
We have no right to assume we will go in anywhere like that and walk out with an easy win.
Yet. [8|]

I don't get it either. The only team they beat by more than that was Northern Iowa, an FCS school. And that was by 11. They've already lost 2 games at home....to Iowa State & Central Mich.

4 or 5 I could see, but not 7. Not much respect from the gamblers.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Football (9/28/2012 12:46:18 AM)

If I were in Vegas I would bet a crap load of money on the Gophers.

I honestly believe the Gophers will not only cover, not only win, but blow Iowa out. I never make homer predictions. In fact often just the opposite. So that's not what this is about. It's just my belief having watched them progress over the last few games last year and carried over this year, combined with Iowa's inconsistent play. And just many elements of the matchup that I believe favor the Gophers.

Gophers by at least two TD's, this will be a statement game.

Okay, I'm convinced. I have elevated that game to my "lock of the day".

Of course I will either be blaming you or thanking you later.
