I have strong doubts that the U will be able to attract any of their top choices. After the way they botched the handling of this, plus U's prior track record of coaching instability, any coach worth his salt will have very strong reservations about taking that position. It may be a Big10 school, but this is not a prestigious location for football, and the likely risk of lost recruits over the way this was handled is going to set the program back even further. Furthermore, this episode will likely make recruiting even more difficult since there is still the perception among players (which will extend to potential recruits) that some of those suspended were not given due process. The administration has demonstrated that it considers the continually changing accusations (3+ different versions?) of a drunk individual to be valid grounds for suspension, dismissal or expulsion, even if the individual(s) may not have been at the location in question. Would a recruit be willing to risk playing there, if all it takes is someone to make an accusation to get them similarly booted? How do other schools handle this stuff? I can't believe all schools are willing to throw players and coaches under the bus the moment someone cries wolf.
