Colts Release Marvin Harrison
Thu Feb 19, 2009

SportsTicker reports the Indianapolis Colts have released WR Marvin Harrision. QB Peyton Manning and Harrison hold NFL records for most completions (971), yards (13,090) and touchdowns (110) of any quarterback-wide receiver duo. But Harrison, 36, has lost a step and cutting him would save $7 million against the salary cap. The 19th overall pick of the 1996 draft, Harrison has 1,102 catches for 14,580 yards and 128 touchdowns in 190 games with the Colts. He has become expendable with the emergence of third-year WR Anthony Gonzalez, who caught 57 passes for 664 yards and four TDs last season.

Police Smelled Pot in Lynch’s Car
Thu Feb 19, 2009

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports officers who arrested Buffalo Bills RB Marshawn Lynch for possessing a loaded gun decided to search him after noticing the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle he occupied, police said Wednesday. Lynch and two other men were sitting in a parked Mercedes Benz with no license plates and dark, tinted windows on Feb. 11 when officers approached to investigate if the car was stolen, said police Capt. Dave Tankenson. The officers smelled marijuana and searched the car and its occupants, finding four marijuana cigarettes and an unregistered .9mm pistol, Tankenson said. Officers were unsure if the drugs belonged to Lynch. Lynch's attorney, Gerald Schwartzbach, said his client was not booked on any drug charges.

I don't think it was Lynch they pulled over. It was the Geico Caveman.

You decide......

Good lord...

Similarly, Lechler's deal more than doubled the previous high average for a punter. His four-year, $16 million deal includes $9 million guaranteed, according to sources close to the negotiations. The $4 million average per season exceeds the previous high of $1.8 million.

Dude... The highest paid punter in league history made 1.8M and it took 4M to keep him in Oakland?

I was fortunate enough to spend a week at the NFL's ProBowl HQ in Honolulu.
Met some great fans from other cities, and had some interesting conversations.
Bumped into a lot of players, players familes, (a lot of siblings could pass for their more-famous brothers) and some media-types.
No sense keeping my Viking Grief to myself, might as well share with my fellow sufferers on here ...
It's official, we have taken on the role formerly held by the Red Sox, and currently held by the Cubs.
We are those fans who get the "ohhh, Vikings fan? Sorry, man"
It was very interesting, and depressing at the same time. Honestly, every conversation I had went a lot like this ...
"What the heck is going on up there? I used to love the old Vikings, but it's sad to see whats happened to them lately"
Sprinkled in with ...
"Thanks for Moss, man. He has been great for us"
And the occasional ....
"So when are they moving to LA, have they told you?"
[X(]
Nice people, actually. Fans that go to the Pro Bowl I've found are hard-core, extremely positive, and supportive.
Huge numbers of Steeler backers, and many Pats and Giants fans as well.
Not your usual loud, heavy-drinking bunch, but mostly family-releated groups (from what I saw).
Really got tired of the sympathy. It's time for this club to sell-out for one year. One magical year.
This team, this state, these fans deserve a break.
We've got a monkey the size of Texas on our back right now, and we need to get rid of it.

    ESPN Dumps Emmitt Smith
    Sat Feb 21, 2009

The Dallas morning News reports after two difficult seasons, Emmitt Smith and ESPN are parting ways. His contract is up, and it won't be renewed. That the split was inevitable became obvious during the network's Super Bowl coverage. ESPN didn't bother to invite Smith, the former Cowboys great and surefire Hall of Famer, to Tampa. "We thank Emmitt for his contributions to ESPN and work ethic the past two years. We wish him all the best," ESPN spokesman Bill Hoffheimer said. Smith simply wasn't a natural behind a mike.

Emmits "acceptance speech" will probably go something like this ...
"As long as you're not killing anybody, getting anybody shot at and going to jail, then I don't have any issues," said Smith, NFL career rushing leader.  "Your personal life is your personal life," Smith, the former ESPN analyst, added. "Some of the choices you make are not some of the choices I would make. As long as I'm out here  performing like I'm supposed to and not getting into any trouble. I'm not going to tell you what you should be doing." "I understands the do's and don'ts, the rights and wrongs. I had choices to make. Hopefully I start making better choices." "I'm about football. Football's about me." "No one ever promised me a shed full of roses" "I'll be ok. The sun will set tommorow morning, and I'll be on that bus".

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:NFL News (2/22/2009 3:59:23 PM)

I will miss these ....

The Simple Emmitts

The following Emmitt quotes are comprised of one or two small grammatical errors. Emmitt made so many of these, I considered it a miracle every time he went 10 words without a blunder.

  1. "Wade [Phillips] inherit this success." (Commentary: That may be true, but it also looks like someone will be inheriting Emmitt's seat on Sunday NFL Countdown sometime soon.)
  2. "My game-breaker go to Brett Favre." (Commentary: And my dictionary go to Emmitt. Please, Emmitt, start reading.)
  3. "And when defense felt my will, it was a total different game then." (Commentary: Scoring touchdowns? Easy. Using adverbs? Impossible.)
  4. "The Packers don't has a running game." (Commentary: And if this keeps up, ESPN will not has good ratings.)
  5. "This team have not played confident football in three weeks." (Commentary: I love it how Emmitt refuses to use contractions. Emmitt doesn't cut corners!)
  6. "He gets the ball over to their third read than most quarterback can." (Commentary: I think Emmitt forgot a word here, but at least he didn't say "He get the ball over...")
  7. "Mike Martz have this offense rollin'" (Commentary: And Emmitt have this grammar thing rollin'... NOT.)
  8. "The Pittsburgh Steelers are not as good as everyone think they are." (Commentary: What is Emmitt talking about? I thinks the Steelers is good!")
  9. "He deserve to be coach of the year." (Commentary: I wasn't sure who should be coach of the year, but Emmitt really swayed me with that argument.")
  10. "He's gonna be the guy Tom Brady look for on third downs." (Commentary: And I don't think Emmitt's gonna be the guy Webster look for when he updates his dictionary.)
  11. "It takes a coach who know how to communicate." (Commentary: And it takes an analyst who "know" how to communicate too - unless you're working for ESPN.)
  12. "He turn around and go deep on Dre' Bly" (Commentary: Career touchdowns, 175. Career rushing yards, 18,355. Career verbs conjugated, 0.)
  13. "Brett Favre went into Dallas nine times and have a big goose egg." (Commentary: And I bet Emmitt had tons of big goose eggs on his grammar tests when he was in high school.)
  14. "I love those style of play that the Tennessee Titans bring to the game." (Commentary: What a coincidence! I love those grammatical error that Emmitt bring to the Sunday NFL Countdown!)
  15. "Let's see if he step up big today and play great for the Chargers." (Commentary: I tried to look up if the word "he" can be used as plural. Instead of giving me an answer, Dictionary.com called me an idiot and crashed my computer.)
  16. "All your base are belong to us." (Commentary: OK, maybe Emmitt didn't really say that, but I guarantee he was hired to translate for CATS. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, Check this out. Someone really needs to make a mix video of CATS and Emmitt talking to each other.)
  17. "That offense does... do look good." (Commentary: He was actually about to say "That offense does look good," but changed what he said mid-sentence to "That offense do look good." I'm speechless. How can someone be so poor at grammar? Did CATS really say, "All of your bases belong... All your base are belong to us?")
  18. "He just need a runnin game to help him." (Commentary: And Emmitt need Hooked on Phonics to help him.)
  19. "Giants has too many guys in the secondary banged up." (Commentary: Ahhh, the tricky has-have dilemma. When do you use "has?" When do you use "have?" This has puzzled writers for years.)
  20. "All those things messes with the mentality of your ball club." (Commentary: And all of these Emmitt quotes messes with the mentality of my brain.)
  21. "I'm concerned about a guy who fall down before get hits." (Commentary: And I'm concerned about a guy who speak before he conjugate his verb and puts the "s" in the wrong place, but you don't see me making a big fuss over it.)

Great post

This guy shot an unarmed man and walks free and gets a complete free pass from the media and NFL.  Moss tapped a traffic cop and was public enemy #1.

At some point, and people don't want to hear this, people are going to realize the media has hated Moss since HS for beating up a White kid.

There is no other explanation I can think of why he is considered this terror while a murderer, Lewis, and attempted murderer, Harrison, get a free pass.

If John McClane Can’t Beat Bark Obama Tonight, This Erection Will Be A Mixmatch!

[image]http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/8374/emmittsmith1fp9.jpg[/image]

John McClane faces a real uphill battalion against Bark Obama in their Precedentous Rebate tonight! You know, it doesn’t seem like long ago that McClane had a lake up in this race. But now the shoe is on the other hand! The economy is in real tin foil. I mean a serious tailwind. Sublime mortgages have badly hurt us! And caused a big nipple affect. We’re at risk for a very long resuscitation. And that has badly hurt McClane’s flavorability ratings! ESPECIALLY IN THIS ERECTION CYCLE!

If I’m John McClane, I need to batter down the matches and hit Bark HARD! I mean, turn up the attacks on him to FULL STOSSEL! This is just like a football game, and the time is right for McClane to masturbate the ball down the feel, as we say in football parlay! I think he needs to bring up some of Bark’s more nerfarious ass oceans! Like William Ayers, who was a domesticated terrapin. I’d also make Bark talk more about the bank bailout. Doesn’t this mean the end of capitalization, and the beginning of socialization?

This champagne has gotten very heated in the past few weeks. There has been a lot of hate speech. A lot of inflammatizing Roderick. And that has hurt McClane in the Pectoral college vote ejaculations. BUT NOW IS THE TIME TO LET HIS GALL BLADDER HANG OUT! He’s gotta loosen the reindeers. Pull out all the stocks. He’s gotta go for the juggler. He needs a lane changer!

OR ELSE THIS ERECTION WILL BE A MIXMATCH!

McClane will have to menstruate to the country that he is fit to lead. He can’t make any bad verbal graphs. He already has Sarah Palin out on the road prostating Bark’s polices. But he can’t simply follow the rectum of conservatory talk radio. He needs to be substitutive. He really needs to roll up his seams and get his hams dirty. That’s the only way he’ll turn the time!

But that time is running out. If I’m John McClane, I say to myself, “Okay, now is the time for me to get down to business and come out singing. I will not be sterilized! I am going to defecate to America that Bark Obama is a FONDUE! And a TERRAPIN! And that he coagulates and harborates known submerman excrements in our satiety! I will not be FORNICATED!”

That’s what I would say to myself. It’s time for McClane to put out or shut up. Or else he will get absolutely VANQUILIZED! CALAMITIZED! HOLOCCOSTED! This could be a real fresco if McClane isn’t careful.

AND THAT MEANS HE’S GOTTA MASTURBATE THE DOWN THE FEEL!

Adam SchefterCurtain closing on Raiders’ high-priced 2008 signings
Posted: February 22nd, 2009 | Adam Schefter | Tags: Javon Walker, Oakland Raiders

Last offseason, Oakland spent millions to sign CB DeAngelo Hall, S Gibril Wilson and WR Javon Walker.
Already, Hall and Wilson have been jettisoned — Hall cut during the season and Wilson after it. Now, Walker could be next.
Walker is due a $5 million bonus payment March 3. It is likely that the Raiders would rather release him than pay him. Thus, for the second straight offseason, an AFC West team is likely to release Walker.
Walker’s bonus is injury-guaranteed and he finished the season on injured reserve with a broken ankle, so if they cut him, there will be a grievance and he will win.
But it still doesn’t change the fact that he’s likely to be released this week.
If and when the Raiders release Walker, he will count against their salary cap for an eye-popping $14.16 million. It is a huge number to absorb, but the Raiders believe it is the right move to make.
Fortunately for the Raiders, they succeeded in retaining some of their own players this offseason, keeping both CB Nnamdi Asomugha and P Shane Lechler. Unfortunately for the Raiders, the curtain is coming down on their failed free-agent class of 2008.

Talk about a terribly run organization. Al Davis should be committed when you look at these contracts he's agreed to and the players were terrible(Walker, Hall). Now he signs another one with Asomugha that pays a CB like a QB.

He hasn't even been a good receiver for years.  injury problems and such have sapped his abilities quite a bit.  He's done.  Not worth the money or effort.

Plus he's something of a malcontent too.  No thanks on Walker.

Walker, like a lot of the ex Packers, was mad at Ted Thompson, and they are the ones that tried to screw him. He's also upset at Favre for publically commenting, but it's Thompson and the Packers that did the damage to him.

But I think he's done as well. Better than Bobby Wade, so he could start here though.

I'll miss ya, Emmitt [&:]

quote:

Goob-bye, fiends and utters I know

Well folks, I know that we’re in a really bad economic climax. But I have to tell you that I was absolutely BLINDSPIDERED this week to learn that ESPN had
germinated my contract. Now, I know I have room to improve linguini. Linguini, I struggle from time to time. Still, I don’t think that justified making me ABUNDANT!

That’s what they said. They said, “Emmitt, we have budget monsterfications we have to make, and that means getting rid of some abundancies.” And then they let me go! I don’t understand it. Maybe they outforced my job. All I know is that I have been DOWNSPICED! And I have to say, it is demonstrating. Truly demonstrating.

And that’s a shame. Because I thought I had a lot of interesting observatories to offer this year. Like about the Super Bowl. That game was a real BARNBOOGER! A lot of people asked me if this was the best Super Bowl ever.

And I must say, it really was one for the aces! No doubt. To see the Steelers come back on that last drive, when the ships were cracked against them… THAT’S THE ESSENTIAL OF THE GAME RIGHT THERE!

WHAT A BARNBOOGER!

Although I must say I was surprised at how the season played out. Normally, you have to be able to run the ball, as we did when I was with the Cowboys. Normally, to win a Super Bowl, you have to import your willow on an opponent. YOU MUST MASTURBATE THE BALL DOWN THE FEEL!

But neither the Steelers or the Cardinals like to masturbate the ball down the feel! I wonder: are we going through a ski change in the league right now? Is masturbating the ball down the field important anymore? Or is it more important to have a good areola game? Are we seeing a new egg and flow in how the game is played? That’s what I want to explore. THE BIG PITCHER!

Alaska, that won’t happen. And that’s too bad! Turns out I am just one of many people going through lakeoffs. YOU NEVER THINK A LAKEOFF WILL HAPPEN TO YOU. But it did. Wonder what I should do now. I’ll miss my friends at ESPN. Farting is the sweetest borrow. Abstinence makes the fart go yonder.

Maybe this is a good thing. That’s gonna be my aptitude. THE WHIRL IS MY ROOSTER NOW. No doubt. I think whatever doesn’t call you makes you straighter. Everything happens for a season. I’m not gonna swallow in self-titty.

If I’m Emmit Smith, I say to Emmitt Smith, “Look, fella. You’ve been made abundant. But no use crying over skilled milk. You gotta pull yourself up by your strap-ons! It’s like my momma said. If life gives you Lenny, you give Lenny AIDS! You will not be PROSTATED! YOU WILL DEFECATE YOURSELF HARDER THAN EVER BEFORE! AND YOU WILL COME OUT SMELLING LIKE A ROAD!”

That’s what I would say to me.
