Why Won't Denver Love Jay Cutler?By Dashiell Bennett, 12:15 PM on Wed Mar 11 2009 [image]http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/deadspin/2009/03/jayc.jpg[/image]

All Jay Cutler wants is a little respect from the Denver Broncos and their new coach Josh McDaniels.

Unfortunately, Cutler plays in the NFL where guarantees, assurances and warm hugs don't come easy.

Cutler is still peeved that McDaniels considered trading him this offseason and then maybe wasn't completely up front about it. The head coach and his quarterback have barely spoken in the last month and a conference call that was supposed to patch things up between everybody yesterday, may have made everything much worse. (And conference calls are usually so productive!) The always popular "sources" say that team officials tried to blame the trade dispute on Cutler, while McDaniels would neither confirm nor deny his trade discussions with other teams, so now Cutler may not show up for offseason workouts, which would be his way of forcing a trade.

So let's get this straight. Cutler was happy in Denver, until the team thought about trading him; but since they thought about trading him, his response might be to get himself traded. He doesn't want to be there anymore, but he thinks the team should make him happy anyway by promising not to trade him, even though he already knows that they want to trade him and would do it if they could. Actually, they probably could have traded him already, but didn't, so maybe that's their way of saying they don't really want to trade him?

Are the Broncos being fair to Cutler? Probably not. But is it fair for a quarterback with a 17-20 lifetime record to expect be untouchable? Does Cutler realize that the alternative is playing for the Detroit Lions? You don't ever want to be on one of their conference calls.

It isn’t easy being a James Hardy fan. Hardy, a rookie with the Buffalo Bills last season, got the number 81. He was informed this week that his number has changed to 84, with his No. 81 being given to recently signed Terrell Owens.

Jim Frenette -> RE: NFL News (3/13/2009 1:01:41 PM)

That is a crappy move. If TOwants that number he should negotiate with Hardy for it like everyone else does in the league. But no, we can't let him get upset because he might cause trouble in the club house.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: NFL News (3/13/2009 1:03:28 PM)

Exactly, If I were Hardy I would tell him to shove it.

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (3/13/2009 4:20:53 PM)

I don't understand the whole Owens to Buffalo thing anyway.

He is a hired gun at this point in his career and they are years away .... at least it seems.

marty -> RE: NFL News (3/13/2009 8:47:43 PM)

Owens is the PERFECT complement to Evans.  Buffalo will probably now push for a wildcard spot, maybe the division.

IF the Buffalo coach is a possible SB winning coach, then Owens will NOT be a lockerroom problem.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth hit and killed a pedestrian with his Bentley Saturday morning on a busy causeway linking Miami and Miami Beach, police said.
MIAMI BEACH, Fla.

Stallworth was headed toward the beach when he hit a 49-year-old man around 7 a.m., said Miami Beach police spokesman Juan Sanchez. The unidentified pedestrian was taken to a nearby trauma center, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later. He was near a crosswalk but it's not clear if he was crossing legally.

Stallworth was cooperating and no charges have been filed, Sanchez said. Officers drew his blood to test for drugs or alcohol, which is routine, but police said it was too early to tell if Stallworth was impaired or violating traffic laws. Police would not say where he was coming from or where he was headed.

A message seeking comment was left on the voicemail of his agent, Drew Rosenhaus.

Stallworth signed a seven-year, $35 million contract with the Browns as a free agent before last season but hardly played because he was hurt. He was due a $4.75 million signing bonus Friday.

This man's penis was completely out of control. He might have to consider just cutting it off.

Oh, you mean the article.[;)]

It was about Travis Henry and his 9 children by 9 women. Apparently he's having trouble making his child support payments, especially with a recent drug arrest. Poor schlub.

If I recall correctly, a few years ago, Henry borrowed money from Ralph Wilson to pay back child support.  Poor guy just couldn't get by on a professional athletes salary.

That sad story gets murkier.
Still can't believe 4 large men would be comfortable taking that boat out 30 miles into the sea.
Terrible mess. That is only getting worse.

I actually wondered aloud one day about the stories (conspiracies more like it) that could arise if the survivor had holes in his story.   It'll probably get worse before it's all said and done.   People just don't get it.  You don't F with the ocean.

If Matt Jones had any talent at all, then I wouldn't want a coke head that just got out of jail.

Since he's Matt Jones, even if he were a choir boy, I still wouldn't want him. We already have one Bobby Wade on this team, no need for another one.

We already have Matt Jones college backup on our team.

[&:]Nice backup reference.

I take offense about the Wade reference, Jones is way frickin better if when he played last year is any indication.

I don't care for him, outside of I thought he would be good in 2005 and it appears he could be if he get over his addiction problems. We have Jared Allen on staff, I am just saying that maybe, if he were further along he would be worth taking a chance on.

Browns | Stallworth drunk when car struck pedestrian
Thu, 19 Mar 2009 11:57:20 -0700
Jennifer Lebovich, of the Miami Herald, reports blood alcohol tests show Cleveland Browns WR Donte' Stallworth was legally drunk when the car he was driving struck and killed a pedestrian, according to a source.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: NFL News (3/19/2009 2:19:58 PM)

Oh man, if true, he's in for a shitstorm of trouble.

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (3/19/2009 3:11:48 PM)

What a waste. A man loses his life because of another drunken driver.

Since the driver was famous, we are all hearing about it - but this is happening every day in every city - and families are being destroyed.
