That guy was the worst CB I have ever seen.  I have never seen so many plays where the CB is not even in the picture with the guy he is covering.  What a bad pick.

The same goes for Allison.

There were some people here screaming for 2 years about how good McCauley and Allison were but just weren't given fair shakes by Brad Childress.

Yet those same people, the ones who write down every single mistake I make, won't have the stones to come in and admit how wrong they were on those two stiffs.

This is an opinion board JC.  Why do people have to come in and do a Mea Culpa for you?

I thought McCauley and Allison should have more chances but for whatever reason, they weren't...probably showed nothing at practice.  In any case they are both gone.  I never "screamed" about them...I wanted them to get a fair shake.  They probably did...and weren't able to do anything with it.

Some athletes are given a pass on everything growing up.  They don't realize that once you get to the top of your profession, you have to work really hard at it.  they probably didn't...expecting to be handed opportunities.
I don't care about mea culpas

Just don't come in giving me crap about guys I liked who don't pan out either

It is that simple

Some people come in here specifically to throw mud and can't take it back

Some of these guys bring up stuff I don't even remember

Goes around

Comes around

Though I agree that if you can't take it...don't sling it, half the fun of coming into a board like this is razzing people for their past statements when they are wrong.  But if you are going to raz...be prepared to take it back...that's all I've got to say.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/30/2009 12:02:47 PM)

Collins - Young

Again, what goes around, comes around.

When Young was ineffective he was rightly benched.  Now that Collins is ineffective, and personally blowing the last 2 games for them, he needs to be benched.  Perhaps Young can provide a spark to the offense.

But when you are 0-3 and your QB put up a 41 rating last game he needs to be benched.

Same goes for JeMarcus Russell who has been brutal and lucked into 1 win.  He needs to be benched

I agree with the benching...I am just not convinced Young will ever be a good NFL QB.  But then, maybe the bench time helped him to learn a few things...

I am not against giving him another chance...just not sure it will help.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/30/2009 12:20:09 PM)

One thing is for sure, if Collins continues to fall apart they have no choice.

Right now Collins has a Vince Young like QB rating but without the running production.

And he is old

What is the point?

He has lost 6 of his last 7 starts including a playoff game at home.  When was Young ever allowed to lose 6 of 7?

You're right.  I'd give Collins this one last chance this week and then go to Young.  You can't do any worse and at least Young can run.

Jake Delhomme is another one that should be benched.

I disagree. I do think that Delhomme is on thin ice but I thought he played fairly well against Dallas. His INT's came on a long bomb where Mouhammed basically quit on the play and then on a quick slant where Smith stopped his route. Like I said, he's on thin ice and if he goes out and resembles the QB from week 1 against the Eagles he should be benched but he's earned a little more leeway to try and turn around a couple bad performances. (Not to mention, I wouldn't be overly eager to get Matt Moore in the game!)

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/30/2009 2:42:49 PM)

I see no point in playing Delhomme unless their backups are really really bad.  Actually they are - I saw them in the Eagles game.

Shame on Fox for not drafting a QBOTF after Delhomme's playoff performance.

Worse, he gave him a new contract!

Fox's days are numbered

Actually, I think the lack of a viable backup is a BIG reason that Jake hasn't already been benched.  But he is on thin ice.  That team is 0-3 and set to continue the trend of no repeat winners of the NFC South.  And it isn't going to get any easier for the Panthers.  But their sucktitude has as much to do with their Defense and Julius "way Overpaid" Peppers.

Jake Carlson -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/30/2009 3:04:11 PM)

The reason I say that about Delhomme is for two main reasons. First, yes, there backups are pathetic -- Matt Moore, AJ Feeley. And second, I just think that considering Delhomme has proven he can play well and lead his team to numerous wins, he should be given a little more slack than someone who has never proven he can play at this level.

I agree that Fox is a moron for giving him that huge contract and also not doing anything about Delhomme's replacement!

Agreed.
Peppers is a strange case. That guy looked like he was going to be the most dominant end in the league and now he's just stealing a paycheck.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/30/2009 3:58:20 PM)

I think guys like Merriman and Peppers are regular guys off the juice.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/30/2009 3:59:59 PM)

Correction he did have 14.5 sacks last year but I think a lot of that was his attempt to get out of Carolina.  Once he saw that he couldn't force a trade he is stealing money!

Some guys also drop off quickly - look at Javon Kearse

Merriman hasn't been the same since his suspension.

Peppers fell off the planet.  That kind of precipitous drop just shouts former Juicer.

Kearse had a lot of injuries to his ankles/legs.  His strength was a speed rush.  He just doesn't have the speed anymore.

Lawsuit: Seeking ID of Ben's friend costly
Daily News Wire Services

A former restaurant worker claims he was fired because he had demanded to see identification for a young-looking woman at Ben Roethlisberger's table where the NFL quarterback and his friends were drinking.

Alvaro Brito, a former assistant manager at the Cabo Wabo Cantina at Harrah's Lake Tahoe who had worked for the company for 12 years, said he was fired in July 2008 in a lawsuit filed against the hotel-casino and its Lake Tahoe president, John Koster.

The new lawsuit, filed Sept. 25 in Washoe County District Court in Reno and first reported by the Reno Gazette-Journal, does not name Roethlisberger as a defendant. But it potentially has a connection to a separate lawsuit filed by another former Harrah's employee against the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Koster and a number of Harrah's officials alleging that Roethlisberger raped her at the hotel in July 2008 and that the company covered it up.

Roethlisberger denies the allegation.

In the woman's lawsuit, the former VIP hostess said a reason she did not report the alleged sexual assault to police was because she had been told that another employee had been fired, or was about to be fired, as a result of Roethlisberger's restaurant complaint.

Both lawsuits claim Koster was a big fan and friend of Roethlisberger and that it had become general knowledge among employees that they should go out of their way to please him.
Harrah's spokesman John Packer said the company does not comment on pending litigation.

He lasted longer than I thought he would.
Probably doesn't want to miss out on a good thing any longer.

Former Raven, Iraq vet Tony Fein dies

I wasn't surprised when making my morning rounds to see that receiver Michael Crabtree had agreed to terms with the 49ers.

I was stunned to learn that former Ravens player Tony Fein, an Iraq veteran who was a 27-year-old rookie hopeful, has died.

Per Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun, Fein's agent has relayed the news, but no details as to the cause are available.

Fein died Tuesday in Port Orchard, Washington.

"It's a very sad situation," agent Milton Hobbs told the Sun.  "I am still trying to figure out what happened."

Fein was cut by the Ravens on September 5, and he was not signed to the team's eight-man practice squad.

A native of Port Orchard, Fein had been working out in the hopes of getting another chance to play in the NFL.

Fein was arrested in late August at Baltimore's Inner Harbor, as part of an effort to crack down on recent violent incidents at the popular destination.  Hobbs claimed at the time that Fein was the victim of racial profiling.

Our condolences go out to Fein's family and friends.  While 27 is an age that's a little too old to be starting a pro football career, it's an age that's far too young to see the ending of a life.

So I guess the moral of the story is that if you play for a crappy Cleveland team and want out, pick a fight with one of Lebron's buddies and they'll ship you out immediately. I wonder if Lebron's power extends throughout the entire state. Could Ocho use this tactic as well?!

It probably would only work in Cleveland.

This is pretty good humor.......

Tom Brady Draws Emotionally Roughing The Passer Penalty

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs was flagged for emotionally roughing Patriots quarterback Tom Brady yesterday after a hit left the star quarterback feeling upset and unloved.

"I didn't care for that! I didn't care for that one bit!" snapped Brady, stomping his foot as he pulled himself up off the ground. Moments later, official Tom Winter threw a flag, penalizing Suggs and the Ravens for an infraction never before called in organized football.

"The new rules in place make our job very clear as officials," said Winter, explaining his call. "We are to protect the quarterback, especially star quarterbacks, and especially this star quarterback. Brady's injury last year is what prompted all of these rule changes."

Brady says Winter made the right call.

"I don't think people understand how hard it is to be me. I'm coming back from a knee injury, my team is struggling, I have one child out of wedlock, another child on the way, very high-maintenance dogs to take care of, I'm expected to look stylish all the time and I have the stress of physically satisfying a woman millions of men around the world would love a shot at. And then when someone tackles me, well ..." he said, tearing up. "It can be very, very hard, okay? It can be very hard on my psyche."

Suggs said he had no intention of emotionally harming Brady, only sacking him and maybe creating a turnover.

"I wasn't trying to emotionally rough the guy," said Suggs. "Physically harming him would have been awesome, but all that touchy-feely emotional crap is what's killing football. I just wanted to maim the guy."

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says he will examine the emotionally roughing the quarterback call and evaluate how it should be called in the future.

Seriously...getting fired for just carding someone?  They could lose their liquor license if an underage drinker is served alcohol.  I am willing to bet there is more to him being fired than that.  and if they did fire him just because he didn't kiss a celebrity's ass...they should be penalized so much that they go out of business.  And if they actually intimated that the girl shouldn't report the rape or risk being fired...they should be charged as accessories to a felony.
