I say they trade down, get multiple picks, re-stock the defense
*************************************************** If they keep that offense intact and add some speed on D, then it will get REALLY scary.
You know they'd love to improve that LB corp. Either way they are WELL set. Either they add McFadden and have REALLY the best offense ever. Or they trade down and get 2 young starting LB's to replace the old guys. We really could see them go TWO years undefeated if they keep Moss.
With the exception of the RB position, the Pats have been pretty injury free. I would expect a couple of injuries plus a FA defection or two would throw a wrench into that...plus there have been rumors of Bill Bilichick retiring after this season. Moss (If he remains in NE) gets another Hammy injury and that team would come down to Earth really fast.

John Childress -> RE:NFL News (11/19/2007 8:54:15 PM)

No way will they go back to back undefeated You can't keep that pitch for 38 games

John Childress -> RE:NFL News (11/19/2007 11:30:07 PM)

quote:

In addition to lining up Owens in different spots, Garrett sent in two different plays to Romo on almost every down. Romo took advantage of the extra option, hooking up with Owens to burn Redskins cornerback Shawn Springs for a 31-yard touchdown to give the Cowboys a 14-10 lead late in the third quarter. Springs, who had a hand in allowing three of Owens' four touchdowns, was playing with a heavy heart. His father, Ron, a former Cowboys fullback, is in a vegetative state in a hospital 20 minutes away from Texas Stadium after what was supposed to be a routine surgery last month. "It was tough because I have memories of being a little boy and coming to this stadium with my father to watch him play teams like the Redskins," Springs said. "Today, when I went to warm up, it was pretty tough, so I went back in the locker room and just kind of waited."
Sad news A lot like Kanye West
No way will they go back to back undefeated You can't keep that pitch for 38 games
Obviously it would be amazing/ridiculous. But if they got McFadden, or two stud young LB's, I wouldn't put it past them. And as great as Moss is, Stallworth does do a lot of the same things well if Moss went down for a couple games. Obviously he's not Moss caliber, but I think even without Moss they'd be the best team in football still.

John Childress -> RE:NFL News (11/20/2007 1:36:57 AM)

Without Moss they would still be the best team in football but not by much. In fact, they lose that game to the Colts without Moss no question. I still think that the would win the SB but no way on greatest of all time - not even close without Moss.

djskillz -> RE:NFL News (11/20/2007 1:43:36 AM)

In a fair game, they still beat them. And I didn't say greatest of all-time. Just that they can survive a Moss loss for a couple games if needed. Stallworth is a similar player. Not the CALIBER of player, no doubt, but he does similar things well for their scheme.

John Childress -> RE:NFL News (11/20/2007 5:29:05 AM)

If the refs call the game fairly and Harrison is healthy the Colts win that game going away if Moss isn't on the Patriots.

John Childress -> RE:NFL News (11/20/2007 5:31:14 AM)

The Titans WRs are just brutal. Was that Troy Williamson out there?

djskillz -> RE:NFL News (11/20/2007 6:34:42 AM)

Chargers, Bengals, Ravens could be interested in Jason Garrett Sunday, Nov 18, 2007 9:22 am EST Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has emerged as a candidate for a head coaching job in the NFL. According to the Dallas Morning News there are three potential openings that might interest Garrett. The San Diego Chargers are the most attractive with all the offensive skills the team has. There is also the Cincinnati Bengals, who do have Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson. And finally, the Baltimore Ravens, who need an offensive-minded coach. Source: Dallas Morning News

Teams that struggle under incompetent coaches seek out better coaches. Football 101, Ziggy... Pay Attention!!!!!

Ray Lewis Criticizes Call on Dawson's FG Tue Nov 20, 2007 The Carroll County Times reports Baltimore Ravens MLB Ray Lewis departed the locker room after Sunday's 33-30 overtime loss to the Browns without conducting interviews, reserving his comments for his weekly radio show on which he's paid to appear. Lewis didn't criticize the Ravens this time, but did have some harsh words for the officiating in light of Browns PK Phil Dawson's controversial, game-tying field goal at the end of regulation. "I don't agree with the call at all," Lewis said. "I think it was an embarrassment on the league the way the total thing went down. This is a professional business and you send a team in the locker room and the score says, 'final score.' If there's a mistake made, send a letter. You don't put men out there at risk. There were at least 15, 20 guys half-dressed. There were guys in the shower. I'm just sitting there saying, 'Is this really real?' It kind of disturbs football. I think we get a lot of bad breaks."

Trekgeekscott -> RE:NFL News (11/20/2007 3:56:08 PM)

Oh, boo hoo hoo....poor Ray Lewis...He left the field too soon. Ray...Newsflash...they got the call right. Sure it took a while but they got it right. and it would have been more of an embarassment if they had gotten it wrong.

Belichick Forced to Defend Actions Again Tue Nov 20, 2007 The Boston Globe reports New England Patriots HC Bill Belichick once agains was forced to defend his rationale for going for it on fourth down while his team was routing an opponent. With the Patriots holding a 42-10 lead over Buffalo late in the third quarter, QB Tom Brady completed a 3-yard pass to WR Randy Moss on fourth and 1 from the Buffalo 10. Two plays later, FB Kyle Eckel scored on a 1-yard run to extend the advantage to 49-10. The crowd at Ralph Wilson Stadium serenaded Belichick and the Patriots with a crass chant when they went for it on fourth down. "I mean, our offense was moving the ball pretty well, and in those situations, at that point in the game, I really don't like kicking field goals," Belichick said. "I feel like that's just adding points. I'd rather go for it on fourth down and give them an opportunity to stop us, and our offense was moving the ball well, so it gives them an opportunity to keep playing." As for the chants, did Belichick hear them? "No, not really," he said. "I'm just trying to coach our team."

Trekgeekscott -> RE:NFL News (11/20/2007 3:58:48 PM)

I'm still waiting for an opposing coach to get upset and have someone lay a nice rib shot on Tom Brady.

Lynn G. -> RE:NFL News (11/20/2007 4:11:43 PM)

I love the part where he says "I really don't like kicking field goals. I feel like that's just adding points."

Guest -> RE:NFL News (11/20/2007 5:04:17 PM)

I can see the Ravens point though. Didn't the referees look at video replay to see if the kick was good? Under the rules, that play is not reviewable. How can they review it if it isn't allowed to be reviewed?

So.Mn.Fan -> RE:NFL News (11/20/2007 5:12:12 PM)

Yeah, Ray, it's not like anybody died......... Ooops, sorry. Poor choice of words. :oops:

Todd M -> RE:NFL News (11/20/2007 5:18:47 PM)

When I was watching the game one of the two refs standing under the goal post looked at the other with a did you see it hit the back post? look and hesitated making the call for no good. When the one ref signaled no good the other ref went with the call. Regardless if the "took a look" or not they got the call right. It's more important to get it right than to worry about some technicality. I guess you’d like the ref who saw it make the right call the first time but still why whine when the truth is on video.

Okay, if the officials are going to be able to review a play that isn't reviewable, where do you draw the line? Pass interference isn't reviewable, why don't they illegally use replay to correct blown PI calls?

Lynn G. -> RE:NFL News (11/20/2007 5:27:45 PM)

Pete, From what I heard, they didn't review it. One went to the review booth and the guy at the other end of the headset told him that it was not reviewable and that they were going to have to come to a consensus on the field without benefit of the video. So the refs huddled and one was absolutely adamant that the ball went through before it was kicked back out. The end result is that they made their decision based on a huddle amongst themselves - NOT a review.

Todd M -> RE:NFL News (11/20/2007 5:30:06 PM)

For one I don't even know to what extent they even did look at the play. I'd like to believe that they got it right after getting together and talking it through. Right is right and fair is fair. Getting the call right is an means justify the ends case for sure IMO.

Todd M -> RE:NFL News (11/20/2007 5:31:39 PM)

What Lynn said.
