Wow, now that the tarnish is off of the golden boy people are having a heart attack.  Not allowed to be honest about Saint Tom?  You would think he was  VIKING the way some people cry when he is exposed.

Guest -> RE: NFL News (2/5/2008 9:00:04 AM)

I just heard that Brady is the only player in the history of the NFL to father a child out of wedlock.  The shame.  He also converted to Islam, after 5 years of Mormonism.  He does feel that we should open our borders though, and he thinks healthcare is too affordable in the U.S.

If it wasn't for all of that, he'd be a pretty good QB.

He was also behind Willie Horton's furlough, and I think he had Vince Foster and Ron Brown shot, as well.

If Terrell Owens fathered two kids from two different women a couple weeks apart, I think the entire sports community would explode, there'd be a federal investigation, and he'd be banned for life!

If it a huge deal? Not really. Is there some blatant hypocrisy going on? Probably so. The difference between Tom Brady and Pac Man Jones is that Brady has the decency to get his freak on in private.

Todd M -> RE: NFL News (2/5/2008 9:48:51 AM)

Jones and Brady in the same sentence?

Little bit of a reach there E.

People have real short memories.  The Pats running game is what won the AFC CG.

Which goes to bolster my point.  They were able to run the ball in the AFCCG, and won.  In the Super Bowl, the couldn't, and lost.

quote:

The SB loss is on Brady.  Period.

This is one of the most ludricous things I have read on this board.  No quarterback is going to play well when he's on his ass for half of his dropbacks.  It's not Brady's fault his line couldn't block.  He was sacked 5 times!  I will admit that it was not a good game from Brady, but to say that the loss is on him is silly when clearly his supporting cast stunk, and their D couldn't come up with a stop when they needed it most.

QBs manage to win games even under pressure. The thing is, they were so good for so long in protecting Brady, that when they went up against a great pass rush, Brady couldn't adapt.

That is a great line, they gave Brady some of the most amazing protection I've ever seen all year. Even in the Super Bowl, they didn't stonewall the Giants, but a few of those sacks were on Brady. You have to expect, in the most important game of the year, that you might have to get the ball out quicker.

And when he did... man, was he awful. He's a great QB, but he played a lousy, lousy game.

If he gets credit for winning 18 games, he should shoulder this loss.

If you think the Patriots won those games and Brady was just a part of them, then he's only a part of the loss.

Again - Tom Brady did NOT father two children.  Just one with the ex girlfriend.

I can't believe I keep jumping in on this because I really dislike Tom Brady and the arrogant, smarmy guy he has become, but I also dislike misinformation that keeps getting passed on as if it's a fact.

Bash Brady for what he really did, not what some tabloid falsely accused him of doing.

That's totally fair.  Brady was the league MVP for good reason, but he couldn't do it without the talent he had around him.  As you mention, the OLine did a spectacular job all year until the super bowl.  That, to me, is the biggest difference between their first 18 games and the last one.

Also, I think the Giants should get more credit than the Patriots should get blame.  The flat-out came to win, wanted it more, and did what it took.  Great gameplan and execution.

Ah, got it. He only knocked the ex up, but not the one he was with?

Todd kinda got it. My point wasn't that Brady is slime, but that even someone as beloved as this guy can have the media all over him.

You've heard the jokes about guys getting women preggers all the time, and no one cares. Terrell Owens gets raked, mostly because he's loud, and no one cares.

Tom Brady is defended like crazy, but let's be honest, he's probably not much different than anyone else. Pac Man is just an extreme.

Jim Frenette -> RE: NFL News (2/5/2008 10:19:52 AM)

I didn't take long for an Ad showing the 72 Dolphins playing a pickup game in the front yard and a Giants Courier truck pulls up with a gift of a football for them from Eli saying in a note. "You have it for 1 ore year"

The Giants should get credit. They outplayed the Patriots all day. New England had to struggle just to score 14 points.

Brady did have to face some pressure, but if you're going to take the accolades of NFL MVP and season record setter, he should man up and take some blame. He played like anything but an MVP and threw up a dog of a game in the most important game all year.

Eli did a much better job dealing with pressure than Brady did.

The game was close enough that if Brady just plays average, the Patriots win. Everyone is still talking about the Patriots playing without fire, or with the Giants having more intensity? To me it's clear that the leader of the team, the guy that has brought that intensity all season, Brady, just didn't have it.

Some of you guys are amazing.  How many players in the NFL do you think fathered a child out of wedlock?
How many do you hear about?  How many are national news stories?

And comparing Pac-man to Brady is beyond what I can comprehend.

I should have made it more clear. It was hyperbole to make a point.

I don't know about national news, but I read a lot of blogs that take a lot of guys to tasks for sleeping around. It's just interesting to me that's the case, until someone like Brady does it, and then it's just par for the course.

Does everyone know what Pac-Man did that is so bad? Not his initial suspension, but why he is being kept out of the league?

He will not be reinstated to the league now, because he goes to strip clubs and tried out professional wrestling.

There you have it.

Now that he loses the biggest game of his career, and looks like crap doing it, suddenly it is all the line's fault!

Just like plenty of players father children out of wedlock.  And rightly so they are not held up as some type of role model or "great guy".

Want to be the best QB of all time?  Win that game Sunday.

Want to be a great guy?  Marry a woman when you impregnate her.

Well, now, that's a bit of a stretch.

Be a great guy by being there for your child, support them, care about them...
Marrying someone just cause you knocked em up?  That is a marriage doomed to failure before it even starts.  The ONLY reason a person should marry another is if they love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together.

Maybe, just maybe, an adult should be mature enough not to have unprotected sex with someone who is not his wife?  Have you heard of HIV?

Maybe, just maybe that would be wise, but REALITY is that people have sex, even protected sex where the protection (condom) breaks, and babies are conceived.  Have you ever heard of reality?  You can't stop people from having sex, all you can do is educate them and hope for the best, in the end though people are gonna screw.  Forcing or expecting people to marry because pregnancy occurred is not feasible.  In nearly every case, the marriage would end within 5 years in divorce.  Marriage doesn't work in a relationship where love is not involved.

theman1970 -> RE: NFL News (2/5/2008 12:58:56 PM)

I can't believe that educated people have unprotected sex in this day and age.  Call me old fashioned or something.  We certainly should hold someone like that up as a role model.

I don't know why you can't believe it...it happens...every day.

Educated doesn't always mean wise or smart.  It just means they took a class.  Whether or not they paid attention is another matter altogether.

How do we hold up someone who protects themselves as a role model?  Do we bust in on them when their are having sex and make our kids watch?  "see kids, he is using a condom.  That is a very smart man."  I am just curious...do we show our kids porn so they can see when and how to properly use a condom? and how they are the role models?  Honestly, I am curious.

You're making a pretty big assumption here.  I have personally known people who have gotten pregnant while on just about every type of birth control there is, including tubal ligation.  As any sewer worker will tell you, poop happens.
