Fargo, you sound like a guy that either has Romo on his FF team or else was going up against the guy with Barber!?!

Thanks. Romo should have passed for those two TD's instead of handing it off to Barber and he might have stayed healthy. [:D]

So all those years Favre was actually protecting his RBs!

Are the Raiders ever going to resemble anything close to an NFL franchise again?

Not as long as Al Davis is alive, they won't.

Weekend at Bernies, season 15.
Just keep propping him up, boys.
Someday we'll win again. [X(]
Arrogant jackass starting thinking he was bigger than the QB and coach a long time ago, and he's never gotten the ship righted.
Loved him when he'd turn things over to Madden and Stabler, or Flores and Plunkett, but it's been downhill ever since those days.

You know what the knowledgeable football people say....."football starts at the corners"

So what did Oakland do with their 2 shut down corners

41 Pts!!!!!!!

Easy E -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/9/2008 10:01:01 AM)

I think Brad just says that to tweak people. I don't think he really believes it.

Defense would start at the corners if offense started with the receivers.

In reality, CB is one of the least important positions on the field. DL, DE, MLB, and both safties are more important. the two outside backs are probably lower on the rung, but that's about it.

Those "knowledgeable" people will just say that they really don't have good corners.

"They" wont mention or notice or acknowledge that the Raiders have no pass rush.

So Merriman makes the surgery choice and his year is done!

Vince Young with a sprained MCL. Titans to sign Chris Simms.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/9/2008 9:09:09 PM)

I wonder if Merriman did that just to qualify for a year of service and get to free agency

David Levine -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/10/2008 7:18:00 PM)

Don't expect to see Chad Ocho Cinco wearing his new name on a jersey anytime soon. CNBC's Darren Rovell reports on his blog that the former Mr. Johnson would be forced to buy out the stock of the 100,000 remaining "C. Johnson" jerseys before making the switch to "Ocho Cinco". If Reebok asked Ocho Cinco to pay for the cost of making the unsold jerseys, the total could reach upwards of $4 million (or $50 million pesos).

Because Johnson changed his name so close to the start of the season, Reebok was left in a bind since they'd have to produce new jerseys and eat the old ones. That's why the NFL has told Johnson he'd have to reimburse the company for the price of the jerseys. That's not unprecedented, rookie linebacker Keith Rivers did it last week when he changed his uniform number. Of course, Rivers didn't have thousands of jerseys with his name on it on sales racks nationwide.

This whole charade, of course, is pretty ridiculous. It's tough to defend Johnson, as he's so narcissistic that he makes T.O. look like Mother Teresa. And the NFL is so blatant in their attempts to block Johnson from donning his new name on the back of his Bengals jersey that it almost seems beneath them. Sure, it's inane and self-serving and could set a bad precedent, but shouldn't the league be focusing on more important issues, like stopping players from celebrating touchdowns?

I love it David

MarkWren -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/14/2008 8:58:38 PM)

While watching NE carve up Favre and company today, I was pondering how well Randy Moss has acclimated to his new team. He barely got a look from the NE playbook today, yet just kept on blocking, running his routes, etc. as the team asserted its will over a highly motivated opponent at their place. I couldn't help but wonder how a guy like Terrell Owens or the infamous "Ocho Cinco" might have handled similar receiving blackouts. I don't think it would have been too pretty on the sidelines, no matter what the score. Good job, Randy.

Jim Frenette -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/15/2008 10:39:39 AM)

Ed Hockilee has to have his white hat taken from him. How he could blow a call right in front of him is beyond me. I thought they were suppose not blow the whistle so quickly. For those that don't know what I'm talking about, it was in the Denver/San Diego game where Cuttler lost the ball as his arm was going back and Ed was about 5 yards right behind him and blew his whistle as an incomplete pass. No way can anyone watching that could have thought his arm was going fwd before losing the ball. Then to top it off, after the review he admits he was wrong but said since he blew the whistle, the play was dead and to complicate things more, he ignores the play being dead by putting the ball in the place of the fumble. If the play was dead it has to go back to the original line of scrimage. Either it was a fumble all the way and the Chargers ball, or it was incomple all the way.

Clear fumble that cost the Chargers the game yet all the experts are raving about Shanahan's "gutsy" call

Ed is my favorite Ref too, sux.

He can't control the refs though.

No matter how he got there, that was a gusy call.

Exactly...mutually exclusive events.

Bad fumble call...should be discussed.
Going for two instead of the tie...If you convert you win...you don't you lose...VERY gutsy!  The bad call on the fumble only bears on this that is set up the TD before the gutsy call...a decision that Shanahan had made long before the blown call.

Very gutsy and Cutler was impressive as hell. I said it at half time of that game that I was wrong about him, and even after he tried to give the game away (first the horrible pick, and then the unforced fumble) - he drove that team down the field for the winning score and made the throws on both 4th down and for the 2 pointer.

He IS a stud. I was totally wrong.

But (and this is not a knock on Cutler), if Chilly was the guy molding him, no way is he half the QB that Shanahan's staff has made him. He'd throw for more yards than TJack, and we'd score more TDs, but we'd turn the ball over a lot.

Easy E -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/15/2008 1:20:02 PM)

I agree. If Cutler were here, he'd be better than Jackson, but with no AD we wouldn't be all that good.

Shanahan might be able to coach Jackson up. More likely he'd get impatient and have cut him by now. Jackson just needs a lot of work. He's essentially a guy that should have sat as long, or longer, than Rodgers, and then maybe he'd be a decent starter, or more likely a good backup.

Cutler is young, he's going to make mistakes, but he's progressing along at a rapid rate, and he doesn't let the mistakes take him out of his game. That's the biggest thing I saw in him early. Aside from the physical tools, that is.

I'm really starting to think that TJack has had virtually no good coaching at this point. I think he'd be a totally different player if he'd have been handled correctly.

That was impressive. That pick he threw in the end zone that would've sealed the game was really horrible. He threw it right into the chest of a defender from about 7 yards away. But then even after Denver's defense let SD fly down the field, he came back and drove them down for the winning TD - including making 2 great throws after the fumble.
