Good thoughts all around.  Agreed on all.

And yes, Shanahan is a gutsy, gutsy coach.  Love him.

Oh, and Stumbo, Ed's my favorite ref too.

What a disaster.  When he's good he's good but when he's bad he's monumentally bad.

Oh the possibilities with AD.....[:@]

Suddenly the Titans are becoming a popular pick to win games. The sad Young saga contin ues.

I agree. If Cutler were here, he'd be better than Jackson, but with no AD we wouldn't be all that good.

Shanahan might be able to coach Jackson up. More likely he'd get impatient and have cut him by now. Jackson just needs a lot of work. He's essentially a guy that should have sat as long, or longer, than Rodgers, and then maybe he'd be a decent starter, or more likely a good backup.

Cutler is young, he's going to make mistakes, but he's progressing along at a rapid rate, and he doesn't let the mistakes take him out of his game. That's the biggest thing I saw in him early. Aside from the physical tools, that is.

Again, as long as we have a competent OC, Cutler with Chester Taylor in the backfield will win more games than jackson and Peterson with Taylor just getting 4 carries a game.

You can not win in this league without throwing the ball unless you have a great defense.  We are a CB, S, and SSLB away from being a great defense.

Romo is simple

Pressure him and he is Kelly Holcomb.

Give him time and he is Joe Montana.

The Eagles couldn't really blitz like normal because Dawkins and Considine are toast.  They need a new FS before they can play all out on defense.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/15/2008 11:52:02 PM)

Do they even announce this stuff during the game?  The place I was hanging was so noisy I didn't hear any of this:

he Cowboys' win was dampened by the loss of safety Roy Williams, who left the game in the third quarter with a broken right forearm. Donovan McNabb threw for 274 yards and a touchdown on 24-for-36 passing, but had a costly fumble in the fourth quarter for the Eagles (1-1). Brian Westbrook accumulated 58 yards rushing and two scores on 18 carries, while catching six passes for 43 yards and one touchdown.
DeSean Jackson had five catches for 106 yards for Philadelphia, which had an injury of its own. Guard Shawn Andrews left the game in the second quarter with a back injury.

2. Cincinnati Bengals' offense
Through two games, this unit is performing far below expectations. Both quarterback Carson Palmer and tailback Chris Perry were on the "who's not" list last week, but it's not just those two players that are struggling. Cincinnati's offense as a whole is not clicking and has just 10 points on the season. When the strength of the team is not productive, the Bengals have little chance of winning.

[image]http://assets.espn.go.com/i/headshots/nfl/players/65/8627.jpg[/image]Anderson 3. Derek Anderson, quarterback, Cleveland Browns
Usually a head coach and his quarterback are tied closely together, and that is certainly the case in Cleveland. As Crennel is struggling with his decision-making early in the season, so is Anderson. His two interceptions Sunday night were costly in a close game, particularly the one right before halftime to Polamalu that could have resulted in a touchdown or, at the very least, a field goal. Anderson completed 18 of 32 passes for 166 yards, two turnovers, and had a 44.5 quarterback rating. And both losses have been at home, where Anderson usually excels.

I wasn't watching as I was at a meeting until 10 PM Central, but I can tell my experience is no, they don' t announce it they are too busy trying get Kornheiser to take his Hyper medication.

I watched it in to the 4th and I don't remember them saying anything about it.

I belive Crennel will be the first HC fired this year.  Mark it down, Bill Cowher is waiting in the wings.  Anderson will be benched by the halfway point and Brady Quinn will take over.

Carson Palmer would accept a ticket out of Cincinnati in a heartbeat.  I would offer Cincy 2009 and 2010 first round picks.  Cincinnati is a mess, I still believe he's one of the elite QBs in football.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/17/2008 8:30:15 AM)

I see no way the Bengals trade him even for 2 #1s

I would EASILY give that up for him though

He hasn't been the same since the injury.

Andy Lowe -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/17/2008 11:05:43 AM)

John - you are probably right, but if I were Vikings management, I would at least open discussions with the Bengals.  Carson has no desire to be there, and Mike Brown, may just be dumb enough to deal him.

Easy - I don't think it's so much the injury as the zoo in Cincinnati.  Their OL has gone down hill quickly, and now may be the worst in the league.  They should have never let Steinbach go.  I think at first he had trouble throwing the ball, but from what I've seen lately, he's throwing the ball as well as he's ever had.

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/17/2008 11:28:20 AM)

I'd kill for Carson.  He's still at least a top 5 qb in the league to me as well.

Just needs a fresh start.

Lane Kiffin will be fired before Crennel.  Write it down.

Seriously, we'd be a PERFECT team for Carson and Cowher.

We could play smashmouth football but with a killer deep passer (best in the league IMO).

Our OL gets better.  Hutch/McKinnie/Birk do what they're best at.  Road-grading.
AD gets better.  He gets the ball more often and gets to overpower/wear down defenses.
Our defense gets better.  They get to play more 3-4 and utilize their strengths.
And our passing game gets a big boost as Carson rifles passes in to Rice, and deep balls to Allison/Berrian.

Perfect fit IMO.  We'd be basically Pittsburgh of a few years ago on crack.  Pittsburgh with even better overall defensive personnel, a better qb, and a MUCH better running back.

Guest -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/19/2008 3:24:11 AM)

Yeah, maybe.  Palmer may have to prove himself again before anybody gets all crazy over him.  How has he looked since the injury?  How does he look this year?  I believe he is currently the lowest rated passer in the entire NFL.

I'm gonna' ask this not expecting an answer, but here goes, what does Palmer do as a QB that impresses you?  What has he done lately that makes you think he's the answer?  Anybody notice any problem with his delivery?
How much of his PAST success can be attributed to having two way above average WR's?

If Carson Palmer was a stock, I certainly wouldn't be buying right now.  I'm still waiting for the uptick.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/19/2008 9:11:20 AM)

I just posted about that on the other thread.

You guys have made me take a closer look at Palmer.  His QB rating has dropped 4 years in a row despite 2 very good WRs every year.  This year his rating is about half of Jackson's!

There is no way I can blame all that on Marvin Lewis, Chad, or anyone else but Palmer.  The excuses for this guy never end.

Daunte also had a devastating knee injury - one worse than Palmer.  When he came back he played with crap at WR at both teams yet he did much better than what Palmer is doing with Chad and TJ this year.

Quite frankly, we should be bringing in Daunte for a physical at the very least along with Simms if he is UFA

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/19/2008 3:05:20 PM)

I disagree.  I think both of his "stud" WR's are incredibly overrated, especially Chad.

And his OL is terrible IMO.

I'd say Carson has 3 things that I really love:

1) He throws the prettiest deep ball in the league (still) IMO.
2) He has a gun (ie not JUST deep ball).
3) He is a beast of a guy, one of the more impressive physical specimens as a QB.

I think we'd be buying low on him, which is the point.

Right, he's basically Drew Bledsoe in his prime. Strong arm, throw it deep, physically imposing. The guy's a good QB, not a great one.. IMO. The injury has really set him back.

You aren't going to be able to buy low though, lots of teams still think he's a top 3 QB.

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/19/2008 4:34:31 PM)

I think he's top 5.  Brady and Manning are the only 2 I'd put "for sure" over him right now, with Brees making a good case.  Other than that, he'd be my guy I think.

The Eagles only scored 7 of their 37 points after he left the game...

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/20/2008 8:48:33 AM)

Carson Palmer is the most overrated QB of this decade.  He has never even won a playoff game.  Stop the madness on the WRs.  Their 3rd WR, Chris Henry, is better than anything we have .

Palmer hasn't produced a thing yet some still call him a top 3 QB?  What a joke.

You guys don't even see your own bias.

Big Ben is TWICE the QB of Carson Palmer.

Palmer is barely top 10

Brady
Manning
Ben R.
McNabb
Romo
Brees
Rivers
Eli

Then maybe I get to Palmer.  He is the 32nd ranked QB in the NFL.  Excuses only go so far.

Palmer needs a 4 TD day just to get his rating up to Tarvaris Jackson.

He led the NFL in INTs last year also.

If Daunte played so poorly....
