djskillz, I saw the Vike's had 7 guys voted in. Would they be considered a better team than the Pack?

That would be my implication, Lane.  [sm=icon_wink.gif]

that's a pile of hoo hah.  What the Probowl results tell you is that the Packers with the better record have played better, throughout the year, AS A TEAM, than the Vikings have.  The better team (as much as it pains me to say this) is the one with the 12-2 record, division title, and a first round bye wrapped up,  right now...not the one with the 8-6 record that still hasn't secured a playoff spot.

As much as I think the Vikings are a much improved team in the past 5 weeks.  The Packers have been a much better team and more consistant this season.  NEXT YEAR though...

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/19/2007 8:18:14 AM)

Lane,

I think you're confusing "team" with "individuals."  It's the players who get voted in, not the team - so the fact that there are more Viking players in just reflects those individuals, not the team they play for.

Also, it's pretty well accepted that the votes are 1) based on previous year's performances because 2) they are more of a name recognition thing.

Would you argue that Donald Driver deserved to get in based on THIS year's performance?  I'd say no, but he got in based on his body of work.  Same for Matt Birk.

Cheesehead Craig -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/19/2007 9:07:15 AM)

Bah, Pro-Bowl is a popularity contest and good for the players come contract time.  Every team can have a legit gripe about whatever players didn't make it.  Shame for Jennings, he deserved it this year.

Lane Meyer -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/19/2007 9:11:18 AM)

No Lynn, no confusion here. djskillz made the claim that the "better teams" were better represented and followed that up by agreeing that that was his intimation. I was responding to that obviously silly claim. No worries.

Until the measure of a "better team" discounts head to head contests, the Packers will have proven to be the superior team this year. At least until this point in the season. The playoffs could affect that assessment of course.

Regarding Driver's selection, one would have to be blind to believe that not one of the Pack's WRs should be going to Hawai'i. Just my opinion.

I understand the Pro Bowl and who/what it rewards. It does seem rather odd, unless the Pack has the best coaching staff, that a 12-2 team receives so few PB nods. Be that as it may, I think it is fantastic motivation for players who feel they've been snubbed to raise their level of play even more as the playoffs approach.

The only Bowl I care about in pro ball is the Super Bowl.

Jim Frenette -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/19/2007 1:12:19 PM)

I just heard that there is a state wide suicide watch in Wisconsin for the next few days. The reason is the Time Man of the Year was Putin and no Favre.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/19/2007 4:06:43 PM)

I think that John Madden is officially boycotting Time magazine now.

haha, great stuff guys.

and lyle, of course i was kidding.  i was (and I think ed was too) just kind of rubbing it in a bit.

i do think we can (and will if given the chance) beat you guys in the playoffs.  we will see.

and no, i don't think either of jennings/driver deserved to go, personally.  but birk didn't either.

Lane Meyer -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/19/2007 6:47:11 PM)

No problem djskillz. The premise was so ridiculous as to be wholly unbelievable.

Perhaps if you refer to me by my name, you won't need to alter my posts skillz. It is bad form to edit other folk's posts.

You're right, we will see. At this point your contention IS ridiculous however.

djskillz -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/20/2007 1:29:12 PM)

Sorry Lane.  It was an honest mistake.

I thought your alteration was bad form, however.

I appreciate the attempt at peacemaking Craig, but it's not necessary. I bear no ill will.

djskillz, if you were truly mistaken, no worries. I just thought it odd that at the top of the page you had gotten it correct. Apparently, my error.

I extend my apologies as well.

What's funny is I really knew it was you, for sure.  Maybe I was just typing to fast or something.  Not sure.  Again, my apologies.

Hopefully we can meet in the playoffs.  Would be fun to have the best rivalry playing out.

Lane Meyer -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/20/2007 3:46:42 PM)

No problem sir.

I would prefer not to play the Vikes again. Mainly because it is a very difficult hat trick to pull off. I also figure the Packers have a Peterson monster game coming their way soon. Of course, so does every team in the league.[;)]
I'm sure we'll all find something to banter about if the teams do play again this year though!

Glad there is no ill will djskillz.

If my wife thinks I've been calling someone else "my pookums", I'll have real trouble.

djskillz and I may have to rearrange your avatar, Craig![&:]

djskillz -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/20/2007 8:53:46 PM)

HAHAHA,

I'm in Lane.

djskillz -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/20/2007 8:54:31 PM)

BTW, is that your actual name, or is that just a screenname for the lead character from the greatest 80's movie there is?

The movie.

I laughed harder watching that movie at the theater, than any I've ever watched before or since. tells ya something about me I would imagine.

Clearly you are too smart to be a Packer fan, Lane.  How did that happen?  [8|]

I LOVE that movie too!  "It's got raisins in it; you like raisins."  I think my favorite part is the Asian Howard Cossell guys.

Who are you then?  Is this David?

Boiled bacon, for me.

Do you remember the Cosell Twins referring to Lane as "Lane Meyer, the kid, from Green Bay!"?

That is my humble and simple story.[&o]

djskillz -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/20/2007 9:13:42 PM)

haha, i had forgotten that.

man, i gotta watch that again.  it's been a couple years i think.

actually, my favorite line of the whole movie is when he tries to kill himself and lands in the dump truck, and some black guy on the side of the highway says "Man, that's a damn shame; folks be throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that."

It's been a great screen name for me since someone on most boards (I post frequently on opposing teams boards) will recognize the reference and laugh to themselves. That's my theory anyway.

Remember his little brother was also named Badger, so for me it was a natural. I doubt that will help my cause here however.

I liked "Gee Ricky, I'm sorry your mom blew up".
