I have no problems with Lane personally......He can however take his Packer fandom to a Packer board IMO.  I don't need to hear from Packer fans how great a team win was today.....Its just these kinds of posts that irritate me.....again, its nothing personal.....I liken my feelings to what Lynn posted above.....

Geez Ed, other than some of your condescending posts or the post calling me arrogant, I might believe you don't have a problem with me personally.

If my presence is such an affront to adults, ostensibly, such as yourselves, I'll go. It is ridiculous that some of you view a board or thread such as this as some type of personal property, particularly since I have treated one and all with respect.  I've been about as reasonable a poster as you'll find, albeit a poster whose view is different than a few folks. Unforgivably different it seems.

I've always believed that reasonable sports fans will inevitably find more in common than in opposition given a chance to debate and hear one another's point of view. It's a huge part of the reason I visit opposing team's boards. I enjoy proving  the point to myself, which I do almost without fail. Almost.

The key is that you have to be willing to hear what someone else is saying.

Stick around Lane.  Packer Thread=Packer fans, and your opinion and thoughts are welcome.  Now if you start posting this garbage in the "Tarvaris Jackson ProBowl Thread" then we're going to have a problem.

So we have a Packer Thread and somehow people are surprised that Packer fans are going to post on it?
Toughen up.

I HATE the Packers and if it were up to me I wouldn't have a Packer Thread, but since we do, live with the results.

Again I could care less....but those Packer fans shouldn't be in awwww if people here don't much agree with anything they say.

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/13/2008 8:28:50 AM)

Someone explain to me why a statement like:

quote:

However, the accomplishments of those 60s and 90s teams give rise to the team's rich history and tradition, something the Vikings (and most teams) will NEVER have.

... isn't rightfully in the category of arrogant and false.  This is why Packer fans have the reputation they have - to go to another fan base's board and tell them that their team doesn't have history and tradition.  Is that not a perfect example of total arrogance?

Obviously not all Packer fans are like that (I know a really good example), but in general they have the reputation for being both drunk and arrogant.  Is there any wonder why that is?  I'll bet Lane and Craig absolutely cringed when they read that statement from David.  They're trying to show a different side and then David comes along and completely undoes everything they've said.

Great win for the Packers

You guys better pray for a G-Men upset because Favre @ Dallas = loss

Packer fans, great win..

The Packers come back from being down 14,  Minnesota dreams of the day that happens.

I love watching footballl in the snow.

Cheesehead Craig -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/13/2008 10:01:18 AM)

I gotta say, I was impressed with their ability to come back after that disatrous first 4 minutes.  It was 56 minutes of total ass-kicking from that point on.  We had not seen that side of the Packers all season.

Ryan Grant is the real deal.  To get a RB like him for a 6th round pick is beyond fantastic.

I'll stop gushing about my team now to save Ed.  Just kidding buddy.

To me, the game that matters the most is today's.  Coaches and players try to acheive greatness each season.  Resting on the laurels of what happened 40 years ago doesn't get you a win today.  I'm glad the Packers won the 1997 Super Bowl (their only title in my lifetime), but it doesn't mean they'll ever win another.  I want them to go and win the SB this season; it'll prove to the world that they're a great team.  Then I want them to do it again next year.

However, the accomplishments of those 60s and 90s teams give rise to the team's rich history and tradition, something the Vikings (and most teams) will NEVER have.  Giant figures like Lombardi and Starr, plus legendary games like the Ice Bowl (whose 40th anniversary was a couple weeks ago) are part of football lore and American culture in general.

There is something to be said for that.

Best post on the subject.

Other than the silly statement about the Packers having the market cornered on history and tradition. [X(]

If any positive Packer post on a board titled "the Packers" is considered in bad taste, why have a Packer board at all?

Just to clarify, this isn't a Packer "board."  This is a Viking board, and on this Viking board we have one thread dedicated to discussion about the Packers.  We have one set up for each of the other NFC teams.

I realize this is just semantics, but make it clear that this is NOT a Packer board.

On this Packer thread, I believe the original purpose was never intended to be a place for Packer fans to come and tout their wins after a weekend.  That's what Packer boards are for.   As an example, when I used to participate at a Packer board, I would have been drawn and quartered if I had made HALF of the comments you guys make here.

Maybe we should rename the thread "Talk about the Stinky Cheese", or something like that, would discourage the Packer backers, but the title is as clear as "The Packers".

Really cut down on quality/fans/fun eh?
All those things everyone always cries about when a Dome-less stadium starts going up.
That WAS fun.
I'm glad some places still suck it up and play, in any conditions.

Dave Odle -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/13/2008 11:46:45 AM)

I could certainly be wrong, but it seems like when Pollard let that TD catch go right through his hands, the Seahawks just deflated.  Not that they were playing great anyway, but it just seemed to break their back.

Oh yeah, and Brett Favre sucks.  There we go.  All is right w/ the world again.  [&:]

Craig...

That's not all, look at what Ted Thompson has done with the rest of his sixth round picks:

2008 (traded the pick): Ryan Grant
2007: Korey Hall, Desmond Bishop, Mason Crosby
2006: Johnny Jolly,  Tyrone Culver
2005: Mike Montgomery, Craig Bragg

It's really amazing if you think about it. Six out of the eight sixth round picks are on the team. Four of them are starters (Grant, Hall, Crosby, and Jolly), if you count the kicker.   And Culver might have made the team had he not been injured and put on IR.

That kind of sucess will get a GM a 5-year contract extension!

1.  If you don't want people discussing the Green Bay Packers on a Minnesota Vikings board, remove the Packers thread.  It's that simple.  What in the world do you expect to happen?

1A.  The phenomenon of a fan posting messages on a rival team's board is not unique to Vikings/Packers.  It happens with all teams.  Perhaps the owner of this board realizes as much and set aside a single thread for discussion of the rival team in an effort to keep Packers fans from trolling on the Vikings threads.  Makes sense to me.  (Or maybe he knows that the Twin Cities are nearly a two-team market.)  Timesfour.com has an entire area for threads about other NFC North teams.

2.  Let's let Lane and Craig speak for themselves.  If they don't like what I said, they are free to reply thusly.  Furthermore, if they're trying to "show a different side," they can go right ahead.  I'm not going to cozy up to Vikings fans in an attempt to be accepted among them.  This is football, not boy scouts.

3.  If you feel that the Vikings have lots of history and tradition, you are free to reply thusly.  I'll be happy to discuss it.  Please make a case for why you feel that way, and the discussion will be much more interesting.

4.  I take issue with your remark about how Packers fans: "in general they have a reputation for being both drunk and arrogant."  This statement is completely without merit.  First off, who else claims they have that reputation?  In my opinion, ALL teams have fans who are drunk/arrogant and those who aren't.  Packers fans aren't any different.  They cheer when their team does well, they boo when their team sucks.  Both things happened yesterday.  Sports fans are they same everywhere.  No team has a monopoly on good fans or bad fans.

4A.  I'll be the first to admit that the Packers have some shitty fans.  I got shoved at Lambeau once by some drunk bastard for not taking my hat off during the national anthem.  I didn't say anything to the guy for fear of starting something.  Vikings fans can be real shitty too -- "I hope Brett Favre gets cancer."

5.  A Star Tribune editorial a few years ago, I think by Jim Souhan (a Vikings fan), was the framework for what I said about history and tradition.  I tried to find a link, but god bless them, it must've been removed.  Maybe I can pay $4.95 to view it :)

I expect Packer fans to come in today and be proud of their team.  They faced adversity and came back like lions.

good job

Plus, I hope it wakes KA up and makes him realize that he absolutely HAS TO land some studs in free agency and cow dung like Shiancoe and Wade next year

I'm with you JC.

Congrats on the win, Packers fans.  But you better be praying Eli has a miracle game today.

You will lose, and badly, at Dallas.

Maybe, but maybe not.  Anything can happen in the NFL (except for the Patriots losing).  Who expected Dallas to lose two of their last three games, scoring zero TDs in those losses?  Both teams to whom they lost are long gone now.  That shows some vulnerability.  Can the Packers exploit it?

And who would've expected the Packers to dominate yesterday's game after giving up two TDs in the first four minutes?  I felt like turning the TV off when that happened.  It sure looked like one of their famous self-destructions that have become all too common in recent playoff games.

But anything can happen.

djskillz -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/13/2008 3:17:02 PM)

Who expected Dallas to lose?

Pretty much everyone.  2 of their 4 top offensive players were hurt or out.

Dallas will roll.

John Childress -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/13/2008 3:34:06 PM)

Actually I said all week that the Packers would smoke the Seachickens

I will give you my NFC CG prediction based upon what we see now.  If we see the Dallas from midseason it won't be close.  If that December swoon was how they play today, well start making your SB reservations David

I can't see Eli beating them in GB

Guest -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/13/2008 3:46:25 PM)

And anyone who posts in the NFC North thread about anything other than the Packers gets absolutly crushed with ridicule....All that thread is, is a place to allow guys like Henry and Blair to bury you......The NFC North thread is a farce!
