Would you suggest that incidences are higher in Green Bay than the norm.

Actually I've heard that from another source - two Packer fans both told me that Wisconsin (not just Green Bay) has some kind of record for domestic violence after Packer losses.  The other distinctive record they hold is for the high amount of absenteeism in jobs on Mondays after a Packer loss.

So yes, that's exactly what I'm suggesting because that's what I've been told.

theman1970 -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/29/2008 10:37:37 AM)

I would love to see a detailed, scientific study.  Have you considered that maybe they just have a domestic abuse problem and it is not related to the football team?

Does Green Bay have a higher incidence of domestic abuse than the twin cities?

theman1970 -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/29/2008 10:39:19 AM)

I couldn't find Green Bay but Minneapolis has a much higher violent crime rate than Milwaukee

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/29/2008 10:58:50 AM)

I don't think you can zero in on the city of Green Bay, but rather the state of Wisconsin because not all Packer fans live in Green Bay.  And the specific focus would be on what the numbers of domestic violence are after the team loses, not an overall violent crime stat.

You certainly CAN talk about violent crime in Minneapolis versus Milwaukee, but that's another topic.

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/29/2008 10:59:49 AM)

And to be honest, I wouldn't have any idea where to start getting the data that would either prove or disprove the claim made by those Packer fans.

I'm pretty sure we covered this upthread.  There is no doubt that anyone who would beat up their wife after a football loss probably has a long history of other abuse issues.  The claim was never that the abuse in the article was a one-time or a first-time event.

The issue was about the fact that something as ridiculous as the outcome of a football game was what set him off on that particular day.

theman1970 -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/29/2008 11:07:01 AM)

I don't think you want to look at crime statistics too much as a Vikings fan.  Minneapolis is either first or second in the nation in incidence of rapes.

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/29/2008 11:09:50 AM)

I've never heard that.  Can you give me a link?

theman1970 -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/29/2008 12:29:07 PM)

I already did.

It trails only Cleveland in rapes

Disgusting

Says 9th here.

But go a head and be inaccurate and biased, it's not slowing down the rate at which people quote you and talk to you.

I guess Minnesota is pretty dang violent.

Took me a while to get someone the same or higher...Detroit with 8 as well.

#2 in rapes

Tell me where I was in error

I said Minneapolis, not Minnesota

I think you owe me an apology

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/29/2008 1:19:17 PM)

Let me see if I've got this straight - we're comparing a city with 380,000 people to a city with 100,000 people and making a statistical statement?  I don't think the science backs that up.

And again, who ever said we were talking about specifically Green Bay?  That article was about some guy in a town called Plymouth, Wisconson (if I remember correctly).  If you're going to do a micro-stat, maybe you need to compare Plymouth, Wisconsin to Plymouth, Minnesota - although the results won't mean a single thing to the actual topic here.

Duane Sampson -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/29/2008 1:22:22 PM)

I think this "debate" started about violent crimes after packer losses. I don't think there's a site that tracks that. [&:]

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/29/2008 1:24:03 PM)

Exactly Sammy.  The topic has gone from spousal abuse after Packer losses to which states have more violent crime statistics.  Not that that topic isn't important as well, but it has nothing to do with the original article.

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/29/2008 1:24:34 PM)

But it's probably time to change the subject....

Any word on Brett Favre's retirement?

The number of people in the city doesn't have anything to do with it.  This is the number or rapes per 100,000 people so that eliminates your size argument.

The facts remains that Minneapolis is one of the more dangerous cities - especially for women.  We should clean up our own houses before throwing stones at someone else.

I lived for years off of Oak Park and I hear things have changed - though I haven't been back in years.

Still waiting on your apology

Todd M -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/29/2008 1:27:59 PM)

One site lets you do state to state, one city to city. Your statement was not incorrect based on the limited links provided.

Brett will make the Packers wait until after FA begins and all other options to replace him have blown away in the wind and then announce that he will come back for another season.  He will just love the media attention as he draws this crap out.  Just like last year and the year before that, etc etc etc.

Todd M -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/29/2008 2:05:49 PM)

You certainly CAN talk about violent crime in Minneapolis versus Milwaukee, but that's another topic.

Where can we go to discuss this then?

I would like to hear what theman1970 might offer as the reason Minneapolis is higher.

I would prefer, if it is acceptable to you, to get back to Packers v Vikings.

djskillz -> RE: RE:The Packers (1/30/2008 2:23:41 AM)

I don't think you can fairly compare Minneapolis to Milwaukee either.  Size of a city does matter.  The per capita thing doesn't quite work right if you ask me.

Been to both cities......lived in one.....they are very similar!
