Happy Birthday David Moufang.  I hope you got some new Packer paraphernalia for your presents.  [;)]

I don't think you can fairly compare Minneapolis to Milwaukee either.  Size of a city does matter.  The per capita thing doesn't quite work right if you ask me.

No, that is not true at all.

Look at the list.  How can a city like NYC have a violent crime rate less than Minneapolis if size matters?

Moufang, Hope you have a great Birthday.  Even if you are a Packer fan.

Happy birthday DM!

Trekgeekscott -> RE: RE:The Packers (2/1/2008 1:01:07 PM)

Well, Here is some shocking news!!!!
Brett Favre undecided about returning next year.

http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=713165

Is anyone really suprised?

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:The Packers (2/1/2008 1:11:33 PM)

I thought this was an interesting quote:

quote:

McCarthy was definitive regarding backup Aaron Rodgers, declaring him ready to start.
"He's really at the point of his career where he needs to play," he said. "He is the future of the Green Bay Packers; whenever that future arrives as far as Brett's decision. I have great confidence in Aaron."

The use of the word "needs" instead of "wants" to play interests me.  I believe he has one year left on his rookie contract, so the Packers probably will have to make some long-term decision pretty soon - but my interpretation of McCarthy's comment was that he wants to get Rodgers on the field more in the upcoming season.

Hello Lynn...

I wouldn't read too much into MM's choice of words there.  Rodgers has two years left on his rookie contract, so the discussions next year will be more critical than this year.   I expect we'll see Favre back next year, and hope he'll be able to ride off into the sunset after another SB victory.

There is a Mike McCarthy video interview here:   http://www.nfl.com/partner?partnerType=coaches
where he talks about the Packers, Favre and the challenges a division winner faces the following year.

And besides, the Bikini Girls have spoken... [&:]

I hear Maxim (or was it FHM?) was trying to get ahold of those bikini girls for their mag.

Maxim I think.   They are two sisters and a cousin from the Wausau area using daddy's season tickets.   I'll bet he'll have some guidence for them...

They've been doing the bikini thing the last 4-5 years - but Fox has given them their 15 minutes of fame this year!

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:The Packers (2/1/2008 3:44:45 PM)

Rodgers has two years left on his contract - okay, thanks for clearing that up.  I suspect he'll have to wait at least one more year before getting his start because I'm also certain that Favre will be back.

MarkWren -> RE: RE:The Packers (2/2/2008 6:04:49 PM)

I've been saying for about 5 years now that Fraud would only stay around long enough to rest atop the individual passing stats categories of note.  The guy is evidently hard-wired as a narcissist...note that the annual Favre watch had already begun before the month of January was out. He's been doing things on his own terms--damn the consequences to his team--for many years now. He's gotten "his" now and he's going to come up with a team-sounding excuse not to return in 2008. Just watch.

Then, he'll sit out a year or two and attempt a comeback. Just like so many frauds before him who have "retired". He'll miss the spotlight desperately, just like Bill Clinton has. These guys are cut from the same cloth, megalomaniacs of the highest order.

Name a QB on our own roster who's better?????  Ya just cant!!!!

theman1970 -> RE: RE:The Packers (2/4/2008 7:50:49 AM)

Jackson will be equal to Favre in 2009 and better in 2010.  This was only his first year starting and he will get better each year.  Favre can't get it done under pressure any more and teams are going to start realizing that and coming after him.

the Vikings will win the North this year

bank on it

Favre Still Mulling Future
Fri Feb 22, 2008

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Packers GM Ted Thompson said he and QB Brett Favre have talked in the last two or three days. Thompson denied that Favre was in any way agitated the two hadn't spoken earlier. "I just called to make sure he was doing fine, make sure he and I were OK," Thompson said. "And we are." Thompson said he doesn't have any idea when Favre will make up his mind about returning in 2008. Free agency begins one week from today. "I wouldn't want to speculate on a time, but it's Brett's call," Thompson said. "He, more than probably anybody I've ever been around has earned the right to probably be able to decide. He understands the needs of the team and doesn't want to put the team in a bad spot, so he's working through that."

I can see him sweating as he dialed that number.  "Boy I sure hope Brett still likes me."

Well if you think about it...
If Favre decides to hang em up...retire...and word gets out that it had something to do with a bad relationship with Thompson.  Thompson would be crucified by the fans and out of a job in no time.

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:The Packers (2/22/2008 2:49:53 PM)

Good point. Both Thompson and coach McCarthy owe their current status to Favre.

Well, it's somewhat official.
ESPN is pretty much cancelling all other stuff and planning an entire day of Favre retirement stuff.
Sets up a nice comeback scenario I suppose. [&o]

Mr. Ed -> RE: RE:The Packers (3/4/2008 9:04:37 AM)

Yep, he'll retire until July 1 or so...change of heart, blah blah blah
