Yeah, Grant's out for the season.  Crap.

I'm in the minority of Packer nation that think Jackson can do well as our starting RB.  He was already the 3rd down back and is excellent at blocking and picking up blitzes.

Where the concern lies in that he's seen as being too tentative and doesn't have the explosiveness that Grant does.  But unlike Grant, Jackson can break tackles and doesn't get tackled by the chalk lines on the field as Grant seemed to do at times.

There will certainly be more FB runs by Kuhn and one may very well see him lined up at RB as well.

This certainly is a blow to the Packers offense, how big of one though remains to be seen.

Your concern should be with Aaron Rodgers putting too much on his shoulders for this team to win...he does so already...also with a reduced running game (you lose a 1200 yard back you don't just replace him) that means defenses are going to be coming after Rodgers more than ever and with that still sieve of a line...his chances of fininshing the season upright are getting slimmer by the minute.

Cheesehead Craig -> RE: The Packers (9/19/2010 5:03:36 PM)

Packers 34 Buffalo 7

A dominating 1st Q followed by a pathetic 2nd Q and then a dominating 2nd half.

Offense
  • Rodgers with a very good performance today and had great vision to see when he could run for big gains. Wasn't sacked at all and really wasn't pressured very often.
  • Jermichael Finley had a monster game as nobody could cover him.
  • Running game has to get better.
  • Bulaga got his first PT of the season and looked good for the time he was in.

    Defense
  • Clay Matthews is amazing. Another 3 sack game.
  • The run defense was weak in the first half when the Pack went with 1 or 2 DL sets but once they got all the big boys back in, the running wasn't as good.
  • Pass D was very good with INTs from unlikely people in Chillar and Burnett (his was really something, great concentration)

    Special Teams
  • Had a hard time tackling Spiller, that kid can flat out run.
  • Crosby was solid as was P Masthay

Solid start to the season going 2-0. Today's game was against the Bills but they beat them like they should have.

  • John Childress -> RE: The Packers (9/19/2010 5:36:57 PM)

The Packers might run away and hide if they can beat the Bears

marty -> RE: The Packers (9/20/2010 8:31:22 AM)

And the Packers might run away with the division if they beat the Bears in Chicago.

Guest -> RE: The Packers (9/20/2010 12:16:56 PM)

We are two weeks in.....The Pack is reletively healthy and the HGH shots for Matthews are working wonders.  Yep, in week 2 they are the cream of the division.  A few more injuries and then talk to me. While they are reletively healthy now other than Grant....there is no doubt some get dinged up....I'm not buying anything two weeks in after they played the Eagles (who almost came back and beat them) and Bills (who are celler dwellers).

John Childress -> RE: The Packers (9/20/2010 7:23:38 PM)

Is there any evidence that Clay cheated?

    Lynn G. -> RE: The Packers (9/20/2010 7:40:51 PM)

Nah - they're just having fun. HGH doesn't have a test for it, so there is no way to know one way or another.

John Childress -> RE: The Packers (9/20/2010 7:43:26 PM)

I wish he was a Viking! The man is a beast.

Brett Favre will get to know him real well

Steal of that draft he was.

marty -> RE: The Packers (9/20/2010 8:17:57 PM)

A good OC would have some big guys up front block, and chip, and constantly push Clay Matthews around so he is out of plays, gets frustrated, and so he doesn't do so much damage to your skill position players.

John Childress -> RE: The Packers (9/20/2010 9:54:22 PM)

It is not as easy as you think. He does a lot of delayed blitzes and backside rushes that make it hard to account for him.

    Yep.

He plays in the NFL.  That should be about all the proof we need.

Guest -> RE: The Packers (9/21/2010 8:28:18 AM)

There is a test for HGH, a blood test, that has been developed at least six years ago. In 2008 a urine test was developed for detecting
HGH, and so far it appears that it could possibly be more effective than the blood test.

To say there is no test for HGH is not true.

It's pretty silly to single out one player for being a cheater when there is no evidence. My guess is the majority of the league is using some sort of PED, but absent evidence, I don't see the need to just accuse players you don't like.

    Lynn G. -> RE: The Packers (9/21/2010 9:04:49 AM)

So sorry Pete. What I meant was that the NFL doesn't test for it. Is that better?

I'm pretty much accusing 95% of the NFL without any evidence.

    Packers 17  Bears 20

18 penalties for 152 yds.  3 missed INTs.  Right there is your story line.  Just a sloppy, embarassing game.

    Offense
  • RT Mark Tauscher is done.  He got dominated by everyone who lined up against him.
  • Our running game is in big trouble.  We don't have anyone that can run the damn ball.  I had hopes for B-Jack but that was misplaced.
  • Rodgers played a hell of a game, but it wasn't enough.

    Defense
  • The delayed short passes kill this defense, especially when 2 LBs come on a blitz.
  • Too many PI penalties, just crappy coverage.
  • 3 missed opportunites for an INT.  Barnett's taken away by a roughing the passer, Collins drops another, and a PI takes another from Collins.  Gotta convert those opportunities.
  • Pass rush was pretty good.

    Special Teams
  • Bad, bad and more bad.  Blocked FG, punt return for a TD, poor overall kick coverage.

I hate losing to the damn Bears.  This was a game we should have won but we shot ourselves in the foot far too often.  Blech.

  • marty -> RE: The Packers (9/27/2010 11:58:44 PM)

That was the sloppiest performance I have EVER seen by ANY NFL team EVER !

It's as though the Packers have NO regards for the rules ! You would think after so many penalties, the coaches would be telling them to play hard but play closer to the vest, play by the rules. But instead, they just continued ignoring the rules, and seemed to be hoping things wouldn't get called.

Not only did the Packers get flagged 18 times, they DID get away with a lot of obvious penalties. There was an obvious block in the back (but it was NOT on Peppers, it was on a another Bear player) NOT called, on the play where Rodgers ran in a TD. There were also 2 very obvious holds on Peppers that didn't get called. The Vikes MIGHT want to do the same thing, and hope they can also get away with it, as Peppers is going to be VERY hard to block in the more aggressive Bear scheme.

It's not that the Bears or Packers CAN'T run the ball, the Bears are hard to run on at home, but BOTH teams seemed pass happy, not willing to stay with the run. The Bears should have been running more in the 1st half, as it seemed obvious the passing game wasn't clicking, and Cutler seemed INT prone.

I liked the Packers playcalling through most of the game, but thought they abandoned the run too much. I thought the Bears playcalling was horrible in the 1st half, much better in the 2nd, but they still should have stayed more with the run. The Bears DID do a nice job of taking Matthews out of plays in the 2nd half, chipping him, and constantly hitting him, and the Bears T was doing a good job one on one with him.

This game, to me, shows the Vikes actually have a chance of getting back in this.

Maybe I should have picked the Bears to win the division, as I've always spoke on how I like how Lovie usually gets them to come out and play hard. I thought the Bears 2ndary did a poor job of hitting and tackling in the 1st half, but much better in the 2nd half. Peppers is a beast, and might be unstoppable, unless you can hold him and get away with it.

The Packers are still my choice to win the division, but the Bears and Vikes still have a good chance. The Packers look weak on the OL, and although I thought they had GREAT offensive playcalling in their 1st two games, they seemed much too pass happy in this one.

marty -> RE: The Packers (9/28/2010 12:11:45 AM)

Why I hate the Packers MORE now than when Favre was with them:

    1) They are media darlings, and Gruden's love and bias towards them was more than I could stomach. Rodgers got away with intentional grounding early in the game, it should have been called, the Bears were right to scream for it, and meanwhile Gruden was COMMENDING Rodgers on that play, when it was a poor choice.

    2) Aaron Rodgers is cocky, and he is a jerk.

    3) Jermichael Finley is VERY cocky, but thankfully he's an injury waiting to happen.

    4) Clay Matthews is cocky, AND he is a dirty player.

    5) They have NO regard for the PI rules

Why should the Packers have any regard for the PI rules? They've been starting Clutchy and Grabby at the corners for the last 3-4 years (and now Grabby is hurt), and they've gotten away with murder for a vast majority of that time. The rest of the secondary obviously feel that they can just follow suit.

The Packers' defense is still the same undisciplined junk it was last year. . .their secondary has nobody to be scared of outside of Charles Woodson, and their entire pass rush consists of Clay Matthews and squat else.

They certainly don't look like a team that should have been given an automatic bye to the Super Bowl like every major news outlet in America was giving them all off-season.

  • Hey Craig

Rodgers is VERY good. Finley, Clay, Woodson, and Collins are studs. But you have some incredible holes on a team with SB dreams. Offensive tackle, RB, and even DE are not impressive at all. The Packers may be 1 more year away - assuming Woodson can hold up for one more year

They've been doing this shit for years.  Mauling WRs hoping for non-calls.  they just didn't get away with it last night.

People on this board have been suggesting the very same thing for a long time.  However, It kind of depends on which referee crew you get.

The Packers have no one that can run the ball.  Cutler has always been INT prone, but Martz doesn't like running the ball.

Packers have no one to run the ball.  Bears are a paper 3-0 team waiting for a big collapse.

Of course the Vikes can get back in it.

Lovie's coaching for his job and he's already made some brutal decisions.  He's just gotten lucky that Calvin Johnson didn't hold onto a football and the Packers kept shooting themselves in the foot.

Rodgers will get hurt by the end of the season.  Cutler too.  Maybe even Favre.  It may come down to which team has the best backup QB because all three teams have problems protecting the QB.
