Astros lose CF George Springer to a fractured wrist for 6-plus weeks. Ex-#MNTwins OF Alex Presley called up to replace him.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/cardinals-fire-scouting-director-as-drama-thickens-in-mlb-hacking-scandal-204659631.html

Chris Correa, the St. Louis Cardinals' scouting director, has been fired by the club, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has learned.
The team isn't officially naming Correa a culprit in its ongoing hacking scandal, but the Post-Dispatch has sources saying Correa breached a Houston Astros database.

From The Post-Dispatch's Robert Patrick and Derrick Goold:

Correa has admitted hacking into a Houston Astros database but said it was only to verify that the Astros had stolen proprietary data, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.
Correa did not leak any Astros data, and is not responsible for additional hacks that the FBI has alleged occurred or leaking any data, said the source.
Lawyers for the Cardinals would only say that Correa had been terminated, but didn't connect him to the hacking scandal, citing the ongoing F.B.I. investigation. No one from the club nor Correa commented on whether he was responsible for hacking the Astros.

@anthonyfenech
Tigers have designated right-handed reliever Joba Chamberlain and left-handed reliever Tom Gorzelanny for assignment, I'm told.

Do NOT even think about it ......

The Tigers have placed first baseman Miguel Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list with a Grade 3 calf strain, and he will miss six weeks, according to Jason Beck of MLB.com (Twitter links). They’ve selected the contract of infielder Jefry Marte from Triple-A Toledo to take his place on the active roster.

First time Miggys been on the DL
That floored me.
Durable as hell, for looking not-so-durable.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/4/2015 7:40:19 PM)

Glad to see The Tribe lose today.
Starting to worry me. Great young pitching and a great manager.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/4/2015 7:43:11 PM)

Harper homered with stars/stripes bat.

That'll be a collector's item.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/4/2015 7:44:16 PM)

Atta boy Plouffe.

Needs to figger out the power to RF more often.

The guy is performing Barry Bonds-type feats
We know its coming, the pitchers know its coming, and he STILL does it.
That's whats so amazing.

Strange, strange day ... The Bosox decide to play Big Papi at first base, and then THIS happens ....

From @EliasSports: Today marked the first time in the franchise's
17,867-game history that the Red Sox did not have a 1B record a putout.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/6/2015 9:15:01 AM)

[&:][&:]

This is why Vargas can't play 1b, by the way.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/6/2015 9:22:34 PM)

Yost is a freaking moron.

"The one thing that Kelvin did that a lot of these guys didn't do was pitch in Game 7 of the World Series last year," Yost said. "That was kind of the deciding factor for me."

Wait, so that's the factor for a 2015 All Star game? That a guy pitched in a game 7 of the 2014 World Series? Yost is a jackass. Gardy South. He's going to cost the Twins homefield advantage this year in the World Series. [:D]

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/6/2015 9:23:47 PM)

Same thought

EVERY world series has ham-and-eggers who stand up and do something great.
Should we just pencil them in?

Asinine reasoning.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/6/2015 9:25:29 PM)

It's amazing how well those guys do DESPITE Yost.

Kind of reminds me of the early 2000's Twins.

Caught Stark this morning on Mike & Mike. Some really good stuff re: the All Star game:

The AS game, until now, has not been played without a Yankee or Sox starter since 1945. [:-]
ARod/Dozier two biggest snubs. Fairly obvious on both. Made the point that ARod was probably a case of "who was pushing for him?" Fans didn't, players didn't, management probably didn't. Tough case.
Some veiled shots at Yost's choices. "If you're telling me you're playing this to 'win' then don't worry about utility guys on the team. Just play Mike Trout for 9 innings." He's right.
Lastly had what I think is a great idea; a Rising Star spot on each team and a Living Legend spot. Talked about how you could have Carlos Correa on the team, even though he's only played about 26 games, because as soon as next season he could be the best player in the sport. He's right; he may well be. Kid is goooooooood. And for a Legend spot, you can have a longtime stud that is close to retirement. A guy like Jeter, ARod, Hunter, etc. I loved both of those ideas.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/7/2015 8:55:36 AM)

For good measure, Carlos Correa so far:

.304/.333/.571/.905, 7 HR, 9 doubles, and 5 steals in 26 games. OPS+ of 147. At SS. And he's 20!

The game right now is unreal in terms of young talent. I remember at the time of the draft I was very high on Buxton but also said I got Houston's thinking with Correa when you factor in his talent and positional value at SS. I think it's safe to say that neither organization is going to be disappointed in the slightest with that draft.

In terms of us, it's interesting to think what we'd be right now with Correa at SS, but Hicks, Rosario or Kepler in CF instead of Buxton.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/7/2015 9:27:48 AM)

Eliminate the required 1 guy/each time stuff.

Archaic and unnecessary

Interesting to listen to the debate last night amongst "experts" like Kruk and Schilling .... Kruk honestly, barely knew who Dozier was/is. Has NO CLUE.
These are the brilliant minds we trust. [&:]

Have a buddy who just embarked on a week-long trek with his Dad ... started at Target last night, went to Miller Park tonight, on to Chicago for both places, then KC and St Louis I believe.
He's a long-time AJ hater .... and AJ just killed the Brewers tonight.
His texts got angrier, and I just kept laughing louder.

I agree. No participation awards. The result of the game matters, maybe more than it should.

I'd go, one player one vote for starters. Can't vote for a member of your own team.

Fan interaction for the ancillary events, like the HR Derby.
