Mets latest wunderkind pitcher starts well.

Can MN ever develop a pitcher? Good grief. Mets roll one out monthly.

The kid killed it .... With the bat!
But gee, let's all DH ..... [&:]
Nothing wrong with expecting everyone to be an athlete.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/28/2015 8:57:26 PM)

Case in point ... MadBum goes yard again

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/28/2015 9:03:28 PM)

lost weekend for MN.

Now in 3rd place, just out of the wild card.

need bullpen help.

Starting next week, they'll get it, when Erv moves into the rotation and May moves to the pen.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/29/2015 8:27:14 AM)

I hope you're wrong, Ed. I'd still give May a chance for longer to start. But I guess Milone is making that tough right now. We've had some issues with our pen, but I still believe it will be fine soon. Too many good young arms coming.

Berardino is pushing for a 6-man rotation to the all-star break, doesn't get why the Twins don't think so, when Erv is eligible.

Also would not be surprised if Sano is called up at the break.

Sano over past 10 games: 1.235 OPS, including .800 SLUG!!!

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/29/2015 9:10:47 AM)

He's a beast, Ed. OPS all the way up to .916 on the year now after an understandably rusty start. .370 OBP/.546 SLG

Meanwhile Kepler continues his blitzkrieg through the Southern League. .349/.422/.560/.982 [:-]

Don't really see those two being held back much longer. Going to try to catch a game or two in the next week before they're gone.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/29/2015 11:27:37 AM)

I seem to remember us actually THINKING about Greinke at one point.
After getting over my shock, I remember screaming YES PLEASE!
Guys been the man. Not every FA is a disaster.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/29/2015 11:57:19 AM)

Andy McPhail officially takes over.
Seems like generations ago he was our guy.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/29/2015 12:05:22 PM)

Timmy Tim TimLincecum on the DL for awhile.
Probably were gonna sit him anyway, after recent ineffectiveness.
He will still be relevant down the stretch at some point. It's what he does. It's what the Giants do.
Still floors me when people talk great baseball teams and dynasties, etc.
3 titles in 5 years, and no one talks about them. Complete and utter disrespect.

Major League Baseball announced Sunday that the 2015 Gillette Home Run Derby, to be held at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, will have a new format.

The eight-player contest will be conducted as a single-elimination tournament in which the loser of each bracket is immediately eliminated. Brackets in the first round will be seeded based on 2015 home run totals through July 7th, with ties broken by awarding the higher seed to the batter with more home runs hit since June 15th. If a tie remains, a coin flip will determine the higher seed. In each matchup, the higher seed will hit second.

During each of the three rounds, each batter will have five minutes to hit as many home runs as possible, and any swings that do not result in a home run will not be counted. Timers will count down from five minutes beginning with the release of the first pitch, and any home run hit after the timer reaches one minute remaining will stop the timer immediately when the ball lands in home run territory. The timer will not start again until the batter hits a ball that does not land in home run territory, or swings and misses at a pitch.

It's also noted that batters may be awarded bonus time during their turn based on the length of their home runs hit. For example, if a batter hits two home runs during a turn that each equal or exceed 420 feet, one minute of bonus time will be added. If one home run during a turn equals or exceeds 475 feet, 30 seconds of bonus time will be added. It is possible for a batter to earn a total bonus of one minute and 30 seconds.

If there's a tie in any round, there will be a 90-second swing off with no clock stoppage of bonuses awarded.

Finally, each hitter gets one timeout per round, which will last 45 seconds.

The 2015 Gillette Home Run Derby be held on July 13th.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/29/2015 2:47:35 PM)

And the winning league gets to host the all-star game in 2050

Come on MLB, tie it into something significant, like the game itself!

I like this. [sm=thumb.gif]

I like that change. I also really liked the concept that they created at the Carolina/California League AS game last year in Wilmington; HR derby set up with HP where the CF is. So all the home runs are launched into the majority of the crowd.

JT2 -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/30/2015 2:01:42 AM)

Sabathia is done. Trout is really, really good.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/30/2015 8:49:56 AM)

He's ridiculous. And then you have to remember that he's just 23 and has been the best player on the planet (by far) for 4 years running. We are seeing things that no one has EVER done.

I always say the two guys above all others that I wish I was able to see live were Walter Johnson and Mickey Mantle. I often feel like I'm getting the chance to see a healthy, sober Mantle in Mike Trout.

With CC, it just seems like all those long postseason/seasons finally took their toll.

Scioscia and GM battling over analytics.
This could get interesting.

Scioscia is an idiot and has always been one. IMO He's "Gardy West".
