Royals southpaw reliever Tim Collins will undergo his second Tommy John surgery since March 2015 on Friday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com tweets. The news that Collins needed the surgery after his previous elbow graft failed was revealed last month.

Verlander 10H/7R today vs Pirates. Looking at their lineup after the elite guys(allegedly) a number of former AL guys. 3 of them: Joyce/Jaso/Rodriguez, ex-Rays

Price coughed up a 5 spot to the O's in the 4th inning. Trumbo a 3 run ding.

Conversely what is the Twins batting average? I don't think we should be throwing stones at anyone right now.

TORONTO — “I think after a month, you get a pretty good indication,” Alex Rodriguez told The Post on Thursday afternoon at Rogers Centre.

We haven’t advanced so much as a half-month into this 2016 season. Everyone deserves more time. Yet A-Rod and the Yankees have whiffed at their only chance to make a good first impression.

Because Nathan Eovaldi couldn’t protect the modest lead he received, the Yankees dropped a 4-2 decision to the Blue Jays, losing the first series of the season between the American League East rivals, two games to one. The Yankees totaled seven runs in these three games; while you can put only some blame on A-Rod (0-for-11 with a hit by pitch for the series) for the drought, you wonder the most about him because he’s the oldest of the bunch.

“When you’re 40, you’re going to get asked the questions,” manager Joe Girardi said. “It’s understandable.”

Against Long Island native Marcus Stroman, A-Rod grounded out twice to shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and once to third baseman Josh Donaldson and drew the aforementioned HBP, starting the Yankees’ two-run, fourth-inning rally that broke the scoreless tie — only to be thwarted by Donaldson’s three-run blast in the fifth. Rodriguez now sports a woeful .120/.267/.240 slash line. He owns just three hits in his seven games.

Following the PED suspension of Phillies Rule 5 pick Daniel Stumpf, J.J. Cooper of Baseball America examines if such discipline can, in a bizarre way, give Rule 5 players added incentive to use banned substances. Stumpf is the third Rule 5 lefty in the past year to be suspended, and Cooper points out that because the suspensions make it easier for a club to carry a Rule 5 player through the early portion of the season while still fulfilling his roster requirements, the suspensions can actually be beneficial. By the time Stumpf is activated, the Phillies will only need to carry him for about two months before rosters expand in September.

And while Stumpf won’t be paid for his time on the restricted list, even the roughly $250K he stands to make (half the MLB minimum) dwarfs what he would have been paid in the minors this year. Cooper notes that many Rule 5 picks — especially relievers — are older and could be the types of players who will struggle to find work by the time they’re six-year minor league free agents. Cooper looks at the case of Andrew McKirahan, who sat half of the 2015 season with a suspension and then underwent Tommy John surgery this spring, thus landing him on the Major League 60-day DL. While McKirahan’s injury is of course unfortunate, McKirahan will make about $750K between 2014-15 — staggering sum compared to the ~$25K he might’ve otherwise made.

The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association has deemed potential No. 1 overall draft pick Jason Groome, a left-hander out of Barnegat High School, ineligible to play due to a violation of the state’s transfer rule, as Joe Zedalis and Matthew Stanmyre of NJ.com report. Groome spent last season pitching at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. and transferred to Barnegat in 2016.

The NJSIAA, however, ruled that his transfer didn’t come with a “bona fide change of residence,” thus making Groome temporarily ineligible to pitch. Head coach Dan McCoy tells the NJ.com duo that Groome will be eligible to return around April 24, but Groome still could miss a pair of starts as a result, thus striking a couple of opportunities for MLB scouts and executives to see him.

HOME / MLB /
MLB: Yankee Stadium Introduces a New Way of Alienating Fans
Eric Schaal

Yankee Stadium | Eric Schaal/Sports Cheat Sheet
You’ve heard of the $13 beers, the top-down strategy of keeping the 99% out of premium seats, and other types of alienation in play when you see the New York Yankees at home. Sadly, the disciples of Steinbrenner were just getting warmed up. On Opening Day 2016, Bronx brass unveiled one of the most offensive new quirks we’ve seen in a ballpark: mini-suites covered in dark glass that block the view of fans going from concessions stands to their seats.

In a twist that would make HBO’s John Oliver and his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cringe, the Yankees surprised fans at the home opener against Houston with their latest twist in elitist excess at the Stadium. We came across them walking to right-field box seats when, to our left, we noticed glass enclosures tinted dark blue standing between us and the field. The little party areas, which measure about 15 ft. by 10 ft., replace what were previously open-air spaces between the concessions stands and field-level seating.

Unlike pillars, ushers, railings, or other natural obstructions, these eyesores were neither part of the stadium’s original design nor a welcome distraction to anyone in attendance on Opening Day. They effectively eliminate the ability for fans to experience the game while they return from buying a meatball sandwich ($14), two-foot cheesesteak ($27), or 12-ounce beer ($9.50). They also shut out fans in cheap seats who want a glimpse of what a premium location looks like.

We’ve never seen or heard of a ballpark where fans walking to their seats were cut off from the action on purpose by a team. There is nothing inherently wrong with the boxes, mind you. If they had clear glass, there would be no issue. You would see the game around people enjoying a gin-and-tonic and bean dip inside their enclosures. But the Yankees’ decision to tint the windows creates another barrier between the corporate class and everyone else. It’s part of an ugly progression.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/23/2016 8:44:58 PM)

That's a tough one for me.
Mainly because I'm so anti-regular concession-goers.
Rarely get up during a game, hate those who beat a path back and forth, back and forth, back and forth
"umm, yeah, that's ok, I just LOVE getting up and letting you in and out of our row seventeen times. Its enjoyable"
