These umps are too caught up in the moment...the home crowd, the deciding Game 5, etc.

I hate the Cardinals.

Yeah, me too. Cards and Red Sox both in my Bottom 4 (with Yankees and Cubs).

Substitute the Whities for the Cubs for me.

You like the Cubs. That's sad, man.

Used to be my 2nd favorite team. Probably because they were on tv every Sunday when I was a kid.

So I'll assume they are now your 3rd favorite team after the Twins and Brewers. You'd have to work pretty hard to find 3 worse teams.

My 2nd favorite team has always been the Astros. I loved Jose Cruz in the mid-80s. So yeah, my teams suck too. But at least my #3 i is the A's.

This game is over now. Damn Cardinals.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/9/2013 9:30:29 PM)

#53 doesn't look like much of an athlete.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/9/2013 9:35:52 PM)

I assume they will be able to review "area code" double plays next year? No more leeway for the 2B or SS when recording the out at 2nd?

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/9/2013 9:39:58 PM)

This game has been a letdown.

Hoping for a better one tomorrow night.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/9/2013 9:42:54 PM)

Can't believe they're starting a deciding playoff Game 5 at 5:00 local time, when it's the only game scheduled. Just proof that MLB only cares about TV and nothing else. Should be a 6:00 or 6:30 local game, but I suppose they need those East Coast ratings. Tigers fans are gonna stay up anyway. Really, who else in the Eastern time zone is gonna care all that much? A's earned home-field. Reward the fans. Don't make them miss the beginning of the game because of work.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/9/2013 9:43:56 PM)

The slipper doesn't fit for the Pirates. Hope they can keep their core together, improve in a couple of spots.

I wish they would. That's a cheapo ways to get an out and probably turn 2.

Do you know the answer? I heard the only thing they won't review is balls and strikes.

That DP the Pirates turned an inning or two ago...the dude was off the bag when he caught it at 2B.

I think they're still working on what will be replayed, and how the system will work. The players have yet to sign off on anything.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/9/2013 9:52:41 PM)

The Cardinals....there's a team with very little diversity. Never seen so many good ol' boys jumpin' up and down together.

Steve Lentz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/9/2013 10:00:10 PM)

The Cardinals are simply an amazing franchise. I don't know if there is a better franchise in baseball right now.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/9/2013 10:04:53 PM)

Unfortunately a bad call by an umpire had a huge impact on this game. Pirates were rallying, but had it all taken away from them with a completely botched DP call on that soft liner. That pretty much ended the game.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/9/2013 10:08:16 PM)

If you like Dirk Hayhurst on the TBS pre-game and post-game, check out his book....I think it was called The Bullpen Gospels. It was pretty entertaining.

Kind of like a ball that lands three inches in fair territory called foul?  A hit that would have been a double (the best kind of hit in baseball btw)?

Zoilo -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/10/2013 8:42:39 AM)

Seemed odd that a playoff team (Pirates) had late-season pickups batting 4th and 5th.

they need to re-sign Morneau today!

At least that way Terry Ryan doesn't get the idea to give Morneau a big contract and call that our BIG FA SIGNING.

Are you talking about the ball Mauer hit at Yankee Stadium?  I thought that ball was fair by at least six inches if not a foot.

Maybe even 3 feet.

Jim Frenette -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/10/2013 10:09:46 AM)

Wainwright had a heck of a year after a very mediocre one last year coming off of a TJ surgery. I'm hoping we sign and see same thing from Pelfry next year

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/10/2013 10:56:42 AM)

Justin Morneau ended up hitting .267 with zero homers, three RBIs, and a .316 slugging percentage in 31 games for the Pirates.

He probably will have a good year - for another team.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/11/2013 8:37:49 AM)

I'm happy for Torii.  That's about it.  I'm pulling for the Tigers be default now.

Torii is a leader even when he's not the best player:

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/det/tigers-turn-up-the-volume-to-celebrate-clinch?ymd=20131010&content_id=62786234&vkey=news_det&partnerId=ed-7670135-611872863

One thing I noticed....he looked kind of different last night.  I could have sworn he had chewing tobacco in his lower lip.  That doesn't seem very Torii to me at all.  I don't remember him chewing EVER.  So I did a search, and it's very surprising, because there's an article from this year where he speaks out against it:

http://www.thegoldseat.com/effects-of-smokeless-tobacco-on-your-dental-wellness/

I also remember poster when he played for the Twins telling kids not to chew tobacco.
