Philadelphia $159,578,214
Boston $158,967,286
Detroit $149,046,844
San Francisco $142,180,333
Los Angeles Angels $142,165,250
Texas $127,197,575
Chicago White Sox $124,065,277
Toronto $118,244,039
St. Louis $116,702,085
Washington $112,431,770
Cincinnati $110,565,728
Chicago Cubs $104,150,726

The Cubs and White Sox are obviously incompetent. [&:][&:]

But anyway, all 4 of the remaining teams are BIG PAYROLL teams.  There's no story in these playoffs anymore.  No interest from me, other than the Torii Hunter local angle.  And that's a stretch.

The small-money teams storyline was cute for a week. Then the big boys took over.

SAD. but sooo true.
What did St Louis spend on players this past year?
They have one great organization to stay competitive year after year!

Twins management needs to peek into what St Louis is doing year after year, as management there seems to either get lucky, or have all the answers!

St. Louis can scout. We can't.

Unfortunately a bad call by an umpire had a huge impact on this game. Pirates were rallying, but had it all taken away from them with a completely botched DP call on that soft liner. That pretty much ended the game.

Kind of like a ball that lands three inches in fair territory called foul?  A hit that would have been a double (the best kind of hit in baseball btw)?

Are you talking about the ball Mauer hit at Yankee Stadium?  I thought that ball was fair by at least six inches if not a foot.

That's the one.

I thought it was more like three feet. It wasn't close, that's for damn sure.

AMEN!!

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/11/2013 11:27:27 AM)

Ridiculous strike called late in the game against an A's hitter last night.  Don't remember the exact circumstance, but it was huge.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/12/2013 10:02:35 AM)

WOW! No comments? Despite disliking both these teams, that was a heck of a game last night. Thoughts on the play at the plate? I assume that's a run next year, huh? Since he never actually tagged him. No way an umpire makes a safe call on that play. But technically, he was never tagged. That's the kind of stuff I'm not thrilled about with replay next year. There will still be debate as to whether a call like that should or should not be reversed.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/12/2013 8:41:50 PM)

Anibal Sanchez is absolutely dealing tonight. 9 K through 4 innings. But I have a really bad feeling about this game. Detroit needs to score some runs very soon or I'm thinking the Red Sox will be too much in the late innings. Let's go Tigers!...score some runs for your pitcher!

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/12/2013 8:47:05 PM)

Iffy call at 2B just cost Detroit a run. Ump seemed very excited to call Peralta out on that odd play. Looked like he was safe.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/12/2013 8:51:04 PM)

Snake-bitten. If Detroit doesn't score here in the 5th, that's pathetic. And it looks like they won't score. I hate the Red Sox. So lucky.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/12/2013 9:21:15 PM)

Sanchez with a no-no thru 5.

Detroit finally breaks thru with a run.

Should be about 5-0.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/12/2013 9:41:33 PM)

No-hitter still intact. 12 K thru 6 IP for Sanchez. What a stud.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/12/2013 9:49:17 PM)

I'm not sure I get Leyland's strategy of playing Peralta in LF this series. This Iglesias dude is a giant black hole in the lineup. Why not Peralta at SS and Dirks LF? Wouldn't you much rather have Dirks' bat in the lineup instead of Iglesias? Seems like a no-brainer to play Peralta at his usual SS position to get Iglesias out of the lineup. Makes no sense.

Edit: I guess Iglesias did hit .303 this season, with a respectable .735 OPS. He's looked brutal in the playoffs though. Completely lost at the plate.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/12/2013 11:12:13 PM)

Couldn't quite finish the no-hitter, but a big win for Detroit. I was convinced the Red Sox would pull out the win. Benoit made me nervous.

Steve Lentz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/12/2013 11:15:53 PM)

PITCHING. It's always about pitching when the games count most.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/13/2013 7:16:06 PM)

Leyland listened to me. [:D]

Peralta starting at SS and Iglesias on the bench tonight.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/13/2013 7:43:32 PM)

Peralta is a solid ballplayer. Wonder what was going through his head when he was using PEDs? He didn't need them.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/13/2013 7:44:16 PM)

Tigers RAKIN RAKIN RAKIN!!

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/13/2013 7:45:54 PM)

Everything hit very hard. Red Sox, of course, bailed out with a DP that was hit right on the screws.

But was it announced after I posted in the early part of last night's game?

I realize Iglesias is a better hitter than Butera. But when Iglesias is at the plate, his stance and mannerisms and build remind me of Butera. Looks like he's got no chance.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/13/2013 9:43:41 PM)

Awww the Saawx starter left meat up and got ripped.
Good to see guys with talent swinging hard.

Twins' hitters have no talent and swing hard.
